I've had my tvc33 with a bh55 for 6 almost 7 years now. Buy once/cry once. It's been with me to 4 continents, 20+ countries, been submerged in saltwater for hours at a time. Held 800mm lenses rock solid for days at a time. Being that everything down to the screws are made in the USA, is great, but seeing that they are expanding into the precision shooting market has made me very happy. Great talk through of a phenomenal product. I would like to

I see people saying to expensive but stop and consider how much you have spent in tripods over the years. I say buy once cry once. I know for myself that I have laid out much more that the cost of that setup and have thrown most of it out or broken it. For me it cuts both ways as I enjoy wildlife photography and shooting. The nice part is that the ball head and the legs he is showing can be used for both.

I have been using RRS 40mm ball head for photography for more than a decade. The greatest thing of it is: once you finished your frame composition, you lock the ball, your composition won't shift at all. Even up to 500mm telephoto lens. Up till now I still cannot find another ball head surpass the RSS's one, not even the Arca-Swiss. It is an expensive gear but it's quality really deserve the price. And it certainly can pass over generations. It is also slightly compact and lighter in weight compared to many counterparts.

$1k for a completely CNC machined anodized aluminum, stainless, and carbon fibre tripod sounds like a good price. But maybe that's just me, and my experience as a machinist.

When you start looking at Carbon Fiber and Machined Aluminum parts for sport bikes and race cars, it puts things into perspective. I have looked at several exhaust systems for my motorcycle that are significantly more expensive and not made in the US.

What chassis/stock should I get for my Remington 700 sps varmint 308? I'm looking at anything from a greyboe renegade to an mdt lss. Any other stocks or chassis to look at that are under $600
@8541tactical
@8541tactical 7 жыл бұрын
+brayden hepworth there is a lot out there, but a lot will depend on your personal preference. The Greyboe and the LSS are polar opposites on the way they feel and handle.
@No_Skill42

Ok I kinda figured that. I'm leaning towards the lss as I want to start getting into precision shoot even though I'm only 16. With the lss I can use a pistol grip and maybe an prs stock too

The shooting community really needs to become aware of geared tripod heads. Ball heads sag and you have to fight that with heavy spotting scopes and rifles. Geared heads stay put and give you fine adjustments for getting on target without having to anticipate the head settling into position.

I knew in the beginning that this tripod would be expensive and really liked the review up to the point that I saw how much just the Tripod was, Just over $1k for a tripod. Holy Crapola! Wish you had stated this at the beginning. Myself being retired and having to build systems that are sub 3k for the gun and quality optics I hope that you also go over some types of reviews of Tripod systems that complete you can get into for sub $500 that can be used for Precision Rifle, and spotting as hope to find some type of system that would work well for all these things as well as using while hunting. Yet be a quality made product, lighter weight, and works very well for the money. Besides doing just a normal camera tripod.

That rod between the ball and Mount is pencil thin. I wouldn’t trust it. Get a sunwayfoto xb44 from shadowtech. Rated for 88lbs and Mount is directly on the head.
@8541tactical
@8541tactical 6 жыл бұрын
I probably should have done it for the video, but I can almost plank on this guy. It is FAR, FAR more rigid than the Shadowtech. If I wanted to attach the VYCE directly to the sticks, I could do that as well. I just prefer this setup.
@johnwalter564
@johnwalter564 6 жыл бұрын
Im talking about the company that makes hogsaddle. Thats shadow-tech right? They have a modded xb44 rated for 88lbs. They milled off the post between the ball and mount so it has a lower center of gravity. I have a MDT ess chassis for my rem 700 300 win. It has a S&B pm2 and an IVEY rtm50 adjustable base so its really rear heavy. The rifle weighs 20 lbs. Im building a tripod setup now to open up my shooting spot possibilities here in Oregon. I couldn't afford the $1400 RRS set up so I bought Feisol carbon fiber legs rated for 40 lbs and the sunwayfoto xb44 for it. I dont like the mushiness of the hogsaddle and Im sketched about my rifle slipping out of it. I bought a XLR industries dovetail arca mount. The issue is even with it on the largest rear mlok its still very unbalanced and I feel thats gonna put a lot of strain on the head. I know you are familiar with the ess. You know the plastic hand guard in front of the magwell? Well right there is the balance point. So I have a buddy making a dovetail mount to bolt into those 3 holes that hold the hand guards to the chassis. should work well

How does this tripod function in the field, and in a hunting situation any better than say a Primos tripod or a Vangard or a Bog pod that only cost around a $150.00?. I mean when your in a hunting situation and using a tripod, you're not really moving around much. Plus the Primos and the others are a TON cheaper, lighter/easier to carry. This sounds like a EXTREMELY niche and boutique item for people with MUCH more money than brains at over $1000.00 US......Not including the mount system.
@8541tactical
@8541tactical 7 жыл бұрын
+ruthless4645 it is FAR more stable than the two you mentioned. The catch is if your task requires the stability. Most hunters use the Primos sticks because they are shooting relatively large kill-zones at relatively short range. That isn't to say that a skilled shooter can't stretch the legs on a set, but the RRS rig is better suited to it.

I retrofitted a Manfrotto 488RC2 ballhead (on 055XPROB legs) with a RRS lever clamp for photography (so I could use L-plates/brackets) several years back. I ended up getting the RRS adapter for the ATAICS and tried it on my existing tripod setup and while it does support the rifle (just barely), it is not very stable at all. Lots of wobble in the hold. Definitely not shooting tight groups with it, but enough to make a what would be good hunting shot (I'm making an assumption because I've never hunted in my life) Tripod shooting definitely requires an overbuilt tripod. Get ones with very high load capacity (40lb+ if possible).
@johnwalter564

That ball head is tiny. It’s rated for only like 30 lbs. A sunwayfoto xb44 is what you want. It’s rated for 88lbs.

OK, two things to mention here. First off, I really like the kit on show, useful and well made...... But what the hell is a "VYCE"? there is no such word in the dictionary - take a look. The word you are looking for is "VICE" end of. That word is in the dictionary and perfectly describes the thing you have in your hand with jaws on it. Spelling a word incorrectly is just plain LAZY
