I'm glad you're giving this campaign another look. I was a big fan of occasionally doing a vortex campaign in WH2.

A big point is that, you are in no way encouraged to expand in the realms of chaos.

Yes, it's good to hear a content creator touch on this aspect of the AI in RoC. Seeing Nurgle and Slaanesh actually have a presence in the campaign warms my heart. In IE, the AI just feel like a complete joke. and the Daemon races just don't exist. You know there's a problem when you're desperately trying to find content for the game 3 races in your campaign, instead of just natuarally encountering them.

The bugs didnt bother me, but the portals certainly did. So glad they fixed that. But the race for the souls was unfun, and the size and shape of the world map was so disappointing, and that will never improve. The Old World mod is the future....

Vortex and Realms of Chaos are great for head-to-head or co-op campaigns as they allow you to engage and mess with other players even if you don't share a border with them.

My only gripe was how the AI could just ignore everything that made the realm what it was. Why have it if only the player suffers from interacting with it. Infact most of my gripes with the game have to do with how the ai just doesn't suffer attrition etc. I agree though u greatly prefer the ROC map over IE, I also like having a campaign rather than a large sandbox. Their tutorial campaign is slept on and underrated.

There are things I remember fondly from that campaign, and I would say that the first go at it was actually amazing. Expeditions to the chaos realms, fighting demons there, demon prince boss battle, Be'lakor final battle, and I'm a fan of Kislev so having a big Kislev felt really good. Issue with this campaign comes on the subsequent playthroughs, and it's the same issue Vortex had. It was fun to do ritual the first time, but after that seeing ritual meter made me vomit, and same goes for RoC, just thinking about going through all the hassle with rifts, expeditions and all that makes me sick. Good campaign for one playthrough, really bad for multiple playthroughs, and that sucks in a game that is all about sandbox and replayability

I actually DO like this campaign and don't mind it a bit. Actually plan on playing as the Ogre's pretty soon through this! Or maybe even Skaven 🤔 Good vid!

The race against the other factions is the biggest draw back. I like the map and the 4 realms. They should make it an optional race against belakor since he is supposed to be the main antagonist. If you choose to ignore him and let him win, rather then your campaign being over he gets an end times type army you have to deal with. There’s still potential here if they could just give this map some love

It is not AS bad as people remember, but it is still rather, eeh, poorly thought out. The balance is a lot smoother than it is on immortal empires, but the best strategy for a vast majority of the factions you can play being : "defeat your first enemy, maaaybee one other nearby faction, proceed to camp at 3-maaaybee 4 provincer with an army for the remainder of the campaign while your LL spends the entirety of the campaign on holiday" sucks. When mechanics discourage you from playing the game, it is an issue IMO.

Ok admit I did enjoy my kislev campaign when the game first released because of how pressured I was and punished for mistakes I made. But the other factions just didn’t do the same as Kislev

This was the only thing I had as IE hadn't dropped yet. I still enjoy it from time to time.

As someone who bought WH3 sometime during the Chorf patch, I did actually really enjoy RoC, even if it did get steamrollery for me in the end as Kostya. I also did a Valkia run

Just got the game a few months ago and yeah, through the patches over the years Realms of Chaos has become pretty good.

Played it once on normal difficulty and enjoyed it, and when I came back to it I just used the mod that turned off the race.

I liked it.

I think if you want a nice 100 turn ish campaign it’s perfect. If you want to build a long lasting empire then Immortal Empires is the one. I love both but I do spend a lot more time in the sandbox of IE rather than the narrative driven campaign of RoC.

Realms of chaos was pretty fun when I first played it. Its more of a story campaign than sandbox so you naturally will get tired of it after a while, but people lobbed the same complaints back at vortex. Its a lot of people just complaining to complain.

It was the rifts. game was awsome for first 20 turns. then you had to send the only army you could afford away for 7 turns and the ai would just rip you a new one
