The wrx(non sti), the difference in sound between the redline and big sf is drastically different. You barely hear your turbo and bvp with the sealed redline. I drilled holes in the top or took off the top of filter on the redline and that helps. Although the big sf is MUCH louder and I regret the redline now. Going back to the big sf for that reason alone.

hey im not tryna make this to decredit you because you made some valid points, I did own both the sf and then upgraded to the redline and saw a small difference in my IAT's about 8-10 degrees less with the redline. not a big difference but just a slight cooler intake temp.

Cobb does claim the Redline provides more performance but we don’t know how much. Cobb intakes definitely help straighten the MAF my tuner only recommended Cobb for intakes.

I’ve heard many comment on that the carbon version is way lower on IAT’s than the standard cobb

i mean thats cool if you want stock plastic look but some of us with the extra cash would much prefer a little extra carbon. Cobb does have 2 different ones for that reason you can either buy for the carbon or just get the metal box for whoosh sounds. you don't care about either stay stock.

Some of the commenters below have noted that the carbon intake can have slightly better intake temps vs the std SF intake.

At least its not an open system, which means the temps will be clooler and consistent.

I would just get a carbon overlay for the looks. That's all peoplewikk end up seeing is the top. Also conflicting things weather it's legit performance or not.

What about the intake from Velossa Tech?

The Velossa tech setup is simply a ram snorkel that attaches to the air scoop of the OEM setup. It just helps channel air from the very front of the car (behind the grille) to the intake tunnel scoop. It does not appear to be complete system with air filter/box/etc. It's hard to say how it compares to a full intake setup.

Yeah I got a p0172 for running too rich your MAF sensor either needs to be cleaned or you may have a vacuum leak

Or on ur passenger side the charge pipe that goes to your top mounted intercooler may be loose or disconnected.

I see a sti in market with this installed would you consider that before buying ? Car has 12,000 miles.

If the STI I was looking at had this intake Installed I would just make sure the car had the COBB AP map for it flashed and have the rest of car checked over by a third party rep. If possible get a compression test for peace of mind. If there are other signs of things being modded or messed with outside of what entails this intake install. Then you may want to walk away as it could have been modded further and just put back to this state of tune before unloading.

Why would your choice between each intake be influenced by weight of all things? Say one airbox was lighter than the other….. that’s negligible weight savings no matter how you look at it. I don’t understand the thought process there. Different intakes provide different temperatures of air and different kinds of sound.

I got lucky with mine. Friend had one lying around and sold it to me for like $300. Definitely not worth the price new

Is there a difference between the Cobb Big SF intake and the Cobb SF intake? Are they the same thing?

the carbon prevents heat soak by a tiny little teeny bit but you can heat wrap the regular and get better results and for cheaper. It's just for show go for the regular its the same thing

I believe this is also CARB certified for those living in the great country of Commiefornia that want to have that sound and/or IG clout etc.. otherwise I'd just protune with the stock intake unless going for those big HP builds. Just my 2 cents.

Redline temperature is lower than regular Cobb sf intake 🤦🏽‍♂️ didn't even mention that

Thanks for pointing that out. I did not have the opportunity to own both the STD SF and the Redline to back to back comparison tests. Wish I could have had the opportunity as it would have provided better information overall. With that said have you had the opportunity to run both back to back to see the differences in temp? Curious to see how much they vary just driving and sitting in traffic etc., Any other helpful information someone may find comparing them here is appreciated.
