Life is as good as we make it wherever we are. Sometimes dreams do not exactly meet up reality and it is ok. Trying the things you want to do and sometimes failing is always better than not trying at all. Having said that, we consider our retirement plan a success but modifying it to better suit our needs at the present time. Self health insuring yourself for unforeseen mild illnesses here in the Philippines can be done but it is not, and never a good idea not to have a health insurance from your country of origin esp. in retirement years. Thanks to all our subscribers and viewers and please do subscribe if you have not subscribe to our channel yet. We are trying to grow our channel one subscriber at a time. Thank you and we appreciate you all.

Sounds like a good plan to stay six months in each country because I’m sure it is much harder in the Philippines during this time

Thats a good plan. I'd definitely do the same thing. Keep property in both countries. And split my time. Thats the best way to handle it. Good luck

Kinda late reply... I sold my home in Toronto, in my early defined pensioned Retirement, so I would not be tied down with property. If I would like to move, relocate. Invested smartly, securing my future really quite interested in "testing" the Philippines.With a SRRV, like yourselves here&there, 6&6 months each year. I soooo want a change.Or to try!!!

I was keen optimistic to travel to Canada, I tried all I could to get a Canada visa I failed for three years, A medical doctor based in Canada referred me to Mr Ethan Lucas and his team really guided me through and I migrated to Canada in 2021 successfully at affordable cost.

Honestly speaking, i have been living in NYC for 25 years but I can't get used to this winter /cold weather . the 4 seasons used to be exciting but I got fed up with it. I would be a snowbird when I retire. you are right 6 mos phils and 6 mos canada sounds like a great plan. canada winter is very cold and snowy....you would want to be in the tropics on those times. Good luck to your plans and to wherever you decided to be...

I read an article about five years ago when I was thinking of moving to a warmer state as I live in the cold upper midwest of the US. The advice from the article was: rent first then if you like the location then buy or build a house. I like Maria's advice not to burn your bridges so that you can go back where you came from if things do not work out.
@johnandmariainmindanao
@johnandmariainmindanao 2 жыл бұрын
That is so true. Renting is a great idea. Living in a different country requires a lot of adjustment and it is not always easy. A back up plan should be in place just in case you will need it. Thank so much for watching and for leaving a comment 💕

that's same thing i do... but i spend 9 months in philippines and 3 months in USA... mainly because the USA is too expensive for me to stay for 6 months... also i go in the winter not in the summer... because i enjoy the cold snowy weather after 9 months of summer here in the philippines... plus it's the holiday season in november-december-january and i can spend thanksgiving and christmas with my children and grand children.

Funny you mention about the cold weather because I do miss it. John says he does not. My friend actually tells me that Canada is getting very expensive to live now also so we will try it and see what happens, We can always stay longer here like you do if we find that it is not feasible for us. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. It is much appreciated.

Hello John and Maria, I subscribed to your channel and clicked the notification bell 🔔. I believe there's going to be some gardening happening around your place. It's winter here in the USA, I'm not a winter gardening person and when You're heading to Canada I'll be starting my spring gardening. You mentioned two reasons for going back to Canada I see you love your husband and you want the best for him. Plus Having insurance is very important, we need it young or older. I pray you can find ways to stay busy in Canada.❤ I'm off to view more of your videos, let's see what's in store for your subscribers. Have a great day💐

I think this is great, the best of two worlds for all the right reasons! No regrets, just pivoting your life to match your style! The pandemic has really made things tough as you both like to live more active lifestyles- hopefully Canada will be in a much better position when you come home...at least the plan looks like Dad will not have to shovel snow, if you are here for the summer months and back overseas in the winter! Sending lots of love from Canada and wishing you guys good luck on your new plan of retirement! XOXO

Am retired as well, in Canada. Going only on a yearly trip to Pinas, when it gets too cold,during winter. After a few weeks of sunny breaks, touching base with relations, visiting local tourist spots in the Phil., I long to go back to Canada. Phil. Weather have a troubling effect on my health, as I am accustomed already to Canadian weather. Respiratory problems sets in, skin allergies starts. Can’t adjust anymore to the local way of life when boredom comes. You can’t always be in vacation spots in the Phil., as it would be too costly. Parks are scarce and there is no other destination except these big business boxes (malls). Urban areas are too densely populated and local transport is a bit challenging. But all of these are well compensated by the joy you’ll have with old friends and close relatives, much more, of the local delicious food you will consume. I am still trying to get that balance of going back and forth, hopefully, as long as my walking feet could still stand and support me.

like watching your channel and others I always pay attention way back then, I see people here in the states who worked and saved for retirement all their lives. They go on vacation there decide to stay there. years later realized they are NOT happy for all sorts of reasons relatives issues utang etc. I go home yearly to get used to the way of life there so much to consider you can't cover it all. we just have to deal with changes along the way and have a backup plan. I feel once we get to 60's we are on barrowed times. So enjoy life and do what make us happy.

Health insurance is easy to get in the Philippines’s. The bad part is good medical care. I visited a hospital in the province and saw family members bagging a patient because the hospital only had one ventilator which was being used on another patient. I can’t imagine manually ventilating a patient 16 breaths a minute, 24 hours a day.

Hello Maria. Sorry for the late watch. I hope your new plan works out better. Inflation is crazy over here. I'm sure it's the same in Canada. Wishing you guys the best. I think that's what we'll try before we make a permanent decision. I hope you'll continue to make video's in Canada too?

You think it's crazy there? It's only crazy there because it is out of sight everywhere else! where all the stuff comes from that gets shipped to the Philippines! The Philippines are tropics, there's no winter expenses to deal with, and food can be grown year round! a little scooter is basically all you need to get around, Try that elsewhere! And rebuilding after a storm is far easier in the tropics! Tornadoes in America cut a path of destruction and most often leave nothing left to build upon! Most concrete structures in the Philippines that got hit by the hurricane are still standing in tact, they just need new roofs! and cars and trucks still intact! Tornadoes usually toss them around like toys and remove concrete structures from their foundations! i'll take inflation in the tropics any day over inflation in the west! The standard of living is far better if you're a country loving type person who luvs the outdoors, walking around, gardening, hiking, motorcycle riding, the beach, swimming, fresh fruit & veggies, etc.!

Being married to a foreigner, we are enjoying good health insurance here in the West and what worries me is the poor health insurance in Philippines when we go back home and healthcare is really extremely high especially if you go to a good hospital like St.Lukes.

My husband is 68yrs old and we are living with his SS and government pension. I am busy with my gardening and my husband is in to computer and gaming. We love our retirement in the Philippines, that we are now selling our San Francisco home. We will use some of the money to travel with our kids and grandkids. Oh no..its funny you’re going back to Canada and we cant wait to go back to our house in Guimaras Island near Iloilo😀 We were suppose to have our cataract surgery last Mar 2020 but due to Pandemic we were forced to stay longer here in Tx near our son’s house. Weve been very bored here and missed our 11 dogs, cows, goats, chickens and my garden. Luckily we have caretakers who took care of everything in our property. We are due to fly out on Feb 18 and were so glad and relieved that there’s no more hotel quarantine. Weve been living on and off in the Philippines since 2015 when we bought a condo in Paranaque but we sold it in 2017 because its not the lifestyle we want as retirees….its like living in an apartment and I like to have a garden. So when we found a 1 hectare property in Guimaras, we love it because of the ocean view and we have mango, tamarind and other trees. We built a country style house with 3 bedroom 2 baths and it was done in 3 months. I wish you find happiness back in Canada…try 6 months at a time just to change scenery, but im sure youll miss your beautiful house, and your daily chores and the good people and family nearby. Good Luck John and Maria and may you keep yourself happy and content…healthy and safe😷

John is probably homesick since he lives most of his life in Canada. He is bored because he needs to see his old friends or socialization with his peers. Your plan will be very good as long as traveling is safe. John is probably at my age and I usually like socializing with my peers and keeps me away from boredom. Or maybe have contact with Canadian expats in the Phil will help. Your you tube channel should have suggested with Canadian connection so as to have more retired expats followers esp Canadians. Thanks for your vlog again!
