I would not say dont buy, i would say this car are not budget friendly not only that parts are not available But i have 2 landcruiser love them both i have over 30k on each one

OMG. I have owned several classic Land Cruisers and I would never whine like this guy. If you are going on a long trip and you want reliability from an old truck, then rebuild the starter, alternator, power steering, brake master, slaves, booster, radiator, replace all rubber hoses, reseal everything, replace all fluids, replace all wheel bearings, rebuild u joints…. Just do those obvious things right away. I suggest next time you go buy a Jeep Cherokee and see what happens!

I drive 97 LC. I bought it over 24 yrs back and no regrets. 230K miles and still going strong. Yes it’s getting old and some plastic &!rubber has become brittle and falling off. Paint has worn off. Engine and transmission is still good. I still take it on a 8 hr drive w/o any issues. I went through many cars in these 24 years, but Landy is still with me and as dependable as when I bought it.

hey Buddy if you fell out of love with your 30+years old LC then you can get rid of it, I am happy to buy, as it has "so many things happening" to it, I guess we can agree on a fare price. In case you don't want to sell, then please don't make a negative publicity for this legend. Anyone seriously involved in 4wd-ing knows that when you use your rig in the proper environment it was designed for and you do it for tens of years, of course you will have parts breaking down, of course you will need to have some maintenance done to your car. If all that abuse is neglected, then yes, eventually it will break down completely. Nothing (no 4wd car) is made out of diamonds to last forever without any spit shine applied to it, so ... please just be realistic ... somehow I just can't forget how in 2010 this 80 series LC (stock version) was taking me across the dunes of the Libyan desert with 130km/hr and I felt like I am riding on some highway, and that car spent most of its lifetime between the dunes and on the dirt roads of the Sahara, I have nothing but respect for the 80 series, but generally any tin box that has a Toyota badge and 4 wheels attached

Instead of spending 1.2k on that Bullbar 🤔, you should of spent it on maintance and then preemptive maintenance. I spent 4k on top of my original purchase price doing the labor myself.

Buddy, all I am hearing is an expectation that it shouldn’t be worn out. You purchased a fairly well worn petrol SUV and depending upon the previous owners standard of maintenance you now have parts to replace. As an 80 owner, I would not only expect to regularly replace all hoses, gaskets, seals, etc, but also do a lot of preventive maintenance. Off-road vehicles cost a lot more to run and maintain, btw, sell that lemon petrol and buy a 1HDT. Then you will truly see what an off road vehicle can do.

It needs a good rebuild, and she'll be good for another 30 years. Nothing abnormal about that...also, any modern 4x4 wouldn't last half that long

I've experienced a lot of wild "old car" issues with my 1991 MR2 as well. I hope the next repairs on yours go nicely, it looks so fun to wheel on the offroad trips!

That SUV is a reliable classic I would drive it everyday these new cars problematic.. 80s-99s cars SUV are best classic

Charcoal canister is such an easy fix. Maintenance on anything older then 15 years is key. Yes they add up but certainly cheaper then letting them go and create even bigger problems.

Many of the reasons you list is why it took me well over a year to find the right one… Many out there are in dire need of updating, and even my one owner, well maintained 1996 needed/still needs some updating. What people don’t anticipate are the things that break due to age while trying to fix the original issue.

They are slow Not that comfortable Very inefficient Things will break as you start to drive it. I professionally restore land cruisers for a living doing. 3-4 engines a week. These are service trucks as in you preform services so you don’t have to replace parts. I love them but you have to have the budget for it

Great advice! SOMEBODY needed to say this Josh 👍. In a way I feel bad for people buying these old Landcruisers at outrageous prices as a result of the IG effect when the fact is many if not most of them actually need a proper full drivetrain overhaul. It's probably worth mentioning that the wiring and connectors all become brittle as well. This of course doesn't seem like a problem until the owner or mechanic has to unplug or wiggle stuff out of the way in the course of various repairs. Btw, I tried posting the part numbers and prices for all the hose clamps below your other video but I don't think it took. Let me know if you want me to DM it.

DO NOT BUY THEM!!! Save them all for me muahaha! Kinda sounds average maintenance things that a 30 year old vehicle needs. Most vehicles don't even last past a decade. My lx450 does great and drives better than any newer car I've had which is why its my daily driver and off roader. Sounds like you'd be better off with a new 'glamorous' Bronco 😂

You are comparing apples and oranges when you bring up your 2014 Tacoma. A difference of 20 years will make a difference in the wear/tear on certain items. All vehicles have rubber and WILL fail over time. There are threads on IH8MUD about the cracked tank, it is a common issue with the 80 series. Also, you mention that the rubber gaskets for oil relate to the oil pressure, you are actually wrong crank shaft and rod bearings are the biggest factor for oil pressure. Honestly what do you expect buying a 30 old vehicle, showroom quality? The previous owner is the one to blame for the lack of maintenance. You bought it knowing what you were getting into, if you did not do your research first that is on you.

I think there are some necessary caveats…1) in what condition did you buy the vehicle, where did it come from, how many miles did it have when you bought it, and what maintenance was done when you bought it; 2) it’s a 1FZ-FE, an engine known to be less reliable than its diesel counterparts; 3) how are you using the vehicle? You make some great points, and I’ll take them into account with my HZJ81, but you did buy an 80-series at $3600 (what was the mileage?) and it sounds like you’ve driven it hard and put it up wet.

These trucks are not for just anybody, but they can be daily driven, but with lots or preventive work, lots of cash, and a lot of DIY work, if you have to pay for all services, they get super expensive. most of the stuff is easy enough to do it yourself. and yes YOU shouldn't buy one if you are going to be complaining about the expenses that having one brings. anyone that ever had one already knows that, is not miles per gallon, but "Smiles for Gallon" any older car will will need lots of cash.
