These funds were for the pandemic… but why not buy yourself a little something too?
LYRICS:
Getting Congress to cut spending is getting harder these days
The only thing that we've been trimming are our resumes
We sent out money for pandemic help
But don't hesitate to go spoil yourself
Is your municipal golf course in need of a spritz?
Do you want a stadium? Do you not exist?
Can you not even afford to put air in your balls?
Pick up the phone and put in a call to
Uncle Sugar
Sending cash to the entire nation
Uncle Sugar
Send the tab to the next generation
All is right in the world when you're reading the blotter
And see Ted Kennedy's Institute is underwater
Sure this cash was for less people dead
But at least we finally found a way to pay a debt
How could you've known when you borrowed for that fancy degree
The gender studies companies would not be hiring?
You signed your name and said you'd pay them one way or another
Don't they know your daddy's creepy brother is
Uncle Sugar
Sending cash to the entire nation
Uncle Sugar
Send the tab to the next generation
It was the greatest civilization the world's ever seen
Though not everything they did was done impeccably
Every few decades their dollars cut in half
From the looks of this they also worshipped golden calves
And when a pandemic came and times got hard
They gave cash to first responders…of mis-parked cars
Voted themselves money, borrowed abroad
How did it end? With thunderous applause for
Uncle Sugar
Sending cash to the entire nation
Uncle Sugar
Send the tab to the next generation
Music and lyrics written and performed by Remy; video produced by Meredith Bragg, Austin Bragg, and John Carter.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. in Terre Haute, Indiana there is a private business owner who rents a $1,000,000 piece of property on the east bank of the Wabash river from the county commissioners for $1/month. this business owner put up a stage and a few double wides and dropped some gravel and calls it a concert venue, even though it isn't ADA accessible. they recently received a COVID grant to "update ADA accessibility" which also happened to be in the same amount in which that business owner donated to a certain prosecutors re-election fund.

@@gcgrabodan Private student loans were largely stripped of bankruptcy protections in 2005 in a congressional move. The Republican-led bill tightened the bankruptcy code, unleashing a huge giveaway to lenders at the expense of indebted student borrowers. At the time it faced vociferous opposition from 25 Democrats in the US Senate. But it passed anyway, with 18 Democratic senators breaking ranks and casting their vote in favor of the bill. Of those 18, one politician stood out as an especially enthusiastic champion of the credit companies who, as it happens, had given him hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions - Joe Biden. Until 2005, private student loans were eligible for bankruptcy protections just like other forms of private credit. But in that year Congress passed the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act, a law that made it vastly more difficult for struggling former students to rebuild their lives by discharging the debts and starting over. - www.congress.gov/bill/109th-congress/senate-bill/256

@@grantcivyt some of this is definitely personal bias as i consider myself a conservative leaning libertarian, but they seem to have gone pretty far leftwards. again, I always err on the side of liberty, but many of the authors seem to always accuse republicans of being the aggressors in the culture war, and haven't accepted the wins they've gotten. for example, they still think the Rs are trying to oppose gay marriage. while obviously there are some, that seems to be a battle that has been over and i don't see it changing. when it comes to transgenderism, the only serious people on the right who are fighting it are only concerned about procedures done to children, but reason often argues that that is bigoted and restricts rights. i think even the most liberal minded of us can agree that adults can do pretty much anything they want with their bodies, but we don't allow children to. I think the republican party has a lot of cleaning house to do, especially after trump took over and they dropped all pretenses of fiscal responsibility and even took on a bit of an authoritarian edge, but the democrats have a much worse record when it comes to persona liberty and they want to completely stomp out dissent on so many issues. I really wish reason, as one of the most important libertarian publications, would try harder to convince conservatives to embrace the personal freedom argument more and try to make more common ground, i think that would be a winning coalition that go do some serious good for the country. i know i went on too long, but i appreciate the question and if you want me to link some examples i can.

While it is easy to blame our elected officials for mishandling money (because they do), the problem is not really with them. We know that politicians will say and do just about anything to be re-elected and self-interest is almost always going to win out over altruism or common sense. The problem is with voters that never look at what elected officials do and hold them to account. Also, we, as a nation, have become so addicted to consuming that ideas like simplicity, denied gratification, planning, and living within our means seem hokey and (for some) evil. Look around at your life and start asking yourself a difficult question. Do I really need this? Or my personal favorite 'Will getting this actually make me happier and more content in my life?' Look at your city and state government. Do my elected officials actual work for the best interests of my city or state? Or how about just 'What are my elected officials doing?' You don't have to turn into an investigative reporter or spend tons of time, all of the info is freely and easily available. They count on the laziness of the average voter and, so far, they have not been disappointed.
