Rebel Moon is what happens when you skip all the cutscenes in a video game to get to the final boss fight.

Does anyone know why the Imperium would require sustenance from a town of like 100 people? It's a very strange plot point that I just can't make sense of. It really makes the universe feel small.

I think its hilarious Korra tells them exactly what the imperium would do to them all if they try to trade with them, then the townsfolk are shocked it happens after they dismissed her advice instantly because one guy thought he could make money 😂

Zack Snyder has an amazing ability to make beautiful films you can't remember, care about, like or stay awake to watch to the end 😅

Star Wars? It felt more like a softer version of 40k. Just the way the "Motherworld" is predicted. The slain king being some kind of overarching ruler, just like the emperor of mankind. Same with the way the soldiers and weapon looked like. Also the commisar looking admiral, the red robed dudes with the holy books following the admiral felt like tech priests and the music was also 40k-ish

I think we gave Zach Snyder enough chances. You literally released a film that should have been R to only promise the original version a few months later? How pretentious can you be?

I mentioned this in another review of this movie: I hope the team making 40k TV/Movie for Amazon product by Henry Cavill will check this movie and say to all the production members and writers "This is exactly what we need to avoid when making 40k".

It should of been a tv series spaced out over a whole season so you have more time to develop and care about the characters.

The thing with Rebel moon is that that the introduction of the characters that join the Kora as the movies progresses isnt done organically but rather its almost like each new party member has this small segment specifically dedicated to him or her after which they kinda disappear into the background as the movie is too busy introducing even more party members for us. Also why does the film ditch the robot after the start. That robot was probably the best part of the whole movie for me. I think Kora could have just teamed up with that robot and maybe the potential love interest from the village along with the young soldier. For example what was the point of having that general in the party since he doesnt really contribute anything else to the party than an extra person who can use a gun or the guy who is really a prince? Also where did the sister of Commander Bloodmoon vanish in the end?

You can’t have AngryJoe show without Alex. I need his objective opinion it balances out the dynamic. Edit: you know I never knew how many narrow minded people there were in the world. Guess I do now.

There are so many slow motion shots in every scene that I was surprised we didn’t get a slow motion show of someone sneezing. Zack Snyder thinks it’s cool do to slow motion shots but forgets that it eventually becomes annoying

Kurosawa was a legendary director. Maybe you guys should occasionally do a classic film review? There are so many classic masterpieces that looking back at some would be fun as it helps provide full context for the knock offs like Rebel Moon.

With each new Snyder movie it becomes more apparent that the success of 300 was more to do with Frank Miller being producer than Snyder being director. My money is on Miller hand holding Snyder through most of the movie, or at least heavy creative input.

The Seven Samurai in space was already done in Roger Corman’s 1980 film Battle Beyond The Stars. Despite its faults in that film I knew why every warrior joined the cause, can’t say that about any of the recruits in Rebel Moon.

The script is like a child wrote it. By that i mean me as a child. I would add light sabres and dragons and all the cool stuff from all the movies i liked and mash them together. lol. This movie even had a slow mo smelling dirt scene that was in Gladiator.

Alex is a great balance to the rest of the team. But no, I think you guys all play off each other well and generally have nice back and forth. AJS team is a good fit 👍🏼

I like hearing Alex’s take on things cuz EVEN when he may come across as overly cynical and critical, his point usually still has merit (idk who these people are that HATE Alex just because they can’t handle a critical opinion on something, but I’m hoping to God they’re not grown-ass adults).

My biggest criticism is that the side characters had basically no character development.

How does Noble get a stupid wtf slow-mo scene losing his teeth, and then 5 minutes later he's revived after going through Rasputin level death, and he's got all his teeth. Why the hell would you give us a wtf slow-mo scene of him losing them and then 5 minutes later not have that shown still? That's a good breakdown of the movie.

You hit the nail on the head, Alex when you said that (paraphrasing) 'Snyder took the movies he's watched but doesn't understand them' - that is what people have been saying since Watchmen essentially, but those movies got carried by solid visuals and a solid script (Watchment in particular was a decent adaptation). He is not what people think he is.

There is noo way this was better that Aquaman 2. That movie was over criticized. To me it was enjoyable

Anyone notice how Kora was gathering a group of ethnically diverse people... but half of them belonged to sterotypes connected to their skin color? The movie was somehow being racist while trying to be diverse. I couldn't remember any names of the "crew" other than Kora and Titus

Zack is only thinking about his fanbois whenever he over-uses slow-mo....because his fans' brains cannot process information at normal speeds. They tend to be a bit slower. So he's just a considerate man. Like how Donald Trump uses 4th grade-level language in all his speeches. It's just easier for his base to understand.

Nobody mentions the fact no matter how many people these guys recruit, the dreadnaught can destroy the village from space! The story is less than paper thin...

Haven't seen anyone mention the alien using a human to speak via tentacles is pretty much a miniature colorful cutesy version of the "Independence Day" alien using the Data actor to speak. Alone it would be a fun lil scene but combined with so many other references its just a collage of scenes I've seen before.

It was weird that they had the team with kora, the robot and kid that turned “good” in the beginning but then ditched it.

Real shame, some of the visuals were actually quite impressive. But then the characters started talking and it went slow-mo.

He's a "master tactician" that allowed his army walk into an obvious trap.

Zack copying things without understanding what made the original good? NO WAY! Yeah, this is exactly what i expected. And i don't care if there will be a director's cut with blood and gore. That won't save anything. The guys are absolutely right: He knew what Netflix wanted and yet he still made the movie this way.

I was skipping these reviews with the intention of watching the movie first. Turns out i had finished watching the movie a week earlier and completely forgot the ending.

I liked 3 things 1 - The energy weapons effect is cool, where it splashes molten stuff around when it hits. 2 - Hopkins Bot 3 - The one scene where the guy does the 300 slo-mo back arched jump with a spear, thrusts it through the gunner cockpit and the gunner dodges and shoots him. That made me laugh. EVERYTHING else was shit. Fan: George Lucas wrote some pretty terrible dialog. Snyder: Hold my Berellian space beer...

I think the main problem with this movie was the people's hype. Most people and Snyder fans were expecting "The best syfy movie of all time" or something. And besides that the film was just a "decent" or good enough syfy adventure

As a writer I understand the excitement of turning Dragon Ball Z or Star Wars or Avatar Air Bender into R-rated fanfic. SO much more you can explore making it brutally real... the sad reality is the writing isn't good here.

Overuse of slow motion, flashbacks, and infodumps hurts the story. The story doesn't give enough time to the main cast of warriors. The villains are cartoonishly evil. I could keep going all day. One good thing I will say is that the alien races looked pretty cool. That's about it.

Critics are supposed to be critical, not over-hype a crap movie. Alex is the most critical critic.

The fact that Rebel Moon has a 70%+ audience score says a lot about how starved people are for good entertainment. A person dying of hunger will think an undercooked rat is the best thing they've ever tasted.

I think the only good movie Zack has done is Watchmen, and that might be because someone else made that story. So he's good with visuals but really needs a good writer backing him up like JJ Abrams does.

Wowza! Alex mentioned 13 Assassins in the last few seconds of this review, and that is one of the best Takashi Miike’s movies. Alex just levels up!

It appears Hollywood has promoted supporting actors to leading roles. I can't remember a time in movies/tv where leads lack any trace of charisma/presence.

19:37 if you want a space opera on the level or better than Star Wars then you can make a movie adaptation of the original Mass Effect trilogy. You’d need a large budget and someone like Cavil who would really care about the source material but it would be amazing if made right.
