Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire is netflix's new Snyder movie series, but is it any good? Well it looks decent in parts, badly blurred in others (with strange colours) and has little story or characterisation to talk about. The movie feels like random scenes strung together with no real meat to bind them together. Maybe part 2 will fix this and explain more of the random threads that appeared for no reason in this movie. But does that save this movie? Shouldn't a movie be self contained and enjoyable without waiting 4 months for part 2? While Zach Snyder may have had movies interfered with before, this was the movie he wanted to make, in the length he wanted it to be. So things like a story and characters not existing is strange to say the least. Rebel Moon is style over substance, and it doesn't always manage that. But do you think? Seven Samurai, Magnificent Seven, Battle Beyond the Stars. All did far more story telling and character progression in less time that RM managed.

Watched it. Totally agree with every character being explained in exposition, rather than actually building their character on screen. It really felt like a student wrote the script for a stage performance.

I can picture when Zach Snyder was making this movie he was imagining the audience's reaction like that scene from A Christmas Story when Ralphie imagines his teacher's reaction to his essay. "This is the greatest thing we've ever seen. Zach, you're a genius, a prodigy, a true visionary. A+++++++."

Snyder is the very definition of "style above substance." Don't get me wrong, I liked his early stuff because it was a new style, but eventually I'm going to want a coherent movie.

I can see why Disney rejected this as a Star Wars script ... they were already doing dogshit like this to destroy their franchises.

There is one important thing about this movie and is it basically shows what a crap 40k Movie will look like use modern audience ideology. I hope the Amazon team and Cavil show this to the producers and says this is exactly what we need to avoid.

The majority of actors who once showed a variety of emotions, talent etc, now act like a grade 10 understudies who were thrust on stage due to the main lead developing laryngitis. I’d like to know why so many of them once talented, are so bad, unable to emote one single emotion.

The robot ran and only came back at the end of the movie because he knew how shit the movie was, plus the kid that saved the young girl we never saw him again 😂

Why do I believe that their going to make the blonde girl that was saved by the robot the princess as a big plot twist in the second part. Does anyone else agree

I think my favorite part was the scene where we see the little princess resurrect a dead bird in a bright flash of light, and the character says something like "I couldn't help but feel she was...different." 🤣🤣🤣

I think the most damning thing I can say is that it made Rings of Power look pretty good by comparison.

After watching amazingly choreographed action scenes from movies like John Wick 4 and Extraction 2 IN NORMAL SPEED Rebel Moon just looks dated with the constant slo-mo sequences.

I think the film has been edited this way so Zak can release the "Snyder Cut-fill in the blanks edition" can happen, complete with an extra 90 minutes of footage that asks more questions than it answers. God I miss the days of films that were made to entertain

This movie feels like cutscene compilation with all the gameplay removed. It’s a movie put together with a bunch of random sci-fi concepts and tropes to tell a story about putting together team for a bunch of random sci-fi and fantasy characters.

Love that Zach bringing up the fact Disney rejected it has blown up in his face. He billed it as they didn't think it was good enough. Not the fact they were just doing the same thing. Both being as bad as the other.

This film was far worse than I could have expected. It literally made me feel physically gross. I got a third into and then watched the rest at four times speed. This is far worse than any other film this year……and that is an immense achievement in itself.

"I have no time for pity" is right up there with "ka'el no" for dialogue delivery

I loved the part where Harry bows his head to Buckbeak to earn its trust before riding it.

In The Seven Samurai it's a small local gang that terrorizes villagers and they try to get help from outside, but here an intergalactic empire attacks a village of 20 people for their corn 🤣

"Battle Beyond The Stars" - Runtime 1hr 44mins. Enemy introduced, hero sets out to gather other heroes, big battle, enemy defeated.

The scene were they all get captured legitimately feels like a bioware rpg were you bring companions into a quest, and they stitch some dialogue in there to remind you they are with you.

My dad watched 30 mins this morning and was like "its boring" I'll take his word for it.

The Hentai scene is basically Darth Vader’s recuperation chamber.

When Disney reject it, a company that will literally make any pile of shite, then you know it's god awful. After watching it, it was a big pile of nothingness. Putting aside the terrible acting, writing and directing, from beginning to end I could have sworn something happened in between, I just can't remember what? So If you're yet to watch it, congratulations, you're where we're all at and you've saved yourself the time (and agony).

If you never read any reviews, you'll never find your flaws. If you never find your flaws, you can never improve. If you never improve, you will be garbage at what you do, regardless of what you tell yourself. The fact the script writers has never read a single review of his work.... now the quality of the storytelling in this movie makes a LOT more sense.

The absolute state of Hollywood screenwriting: dumb. I'm baffled by the ability to harbor any level of ego, while producing something this abysmal. Oh but I'm sure Zach "worked really hard on it" so we shouldn't critique it because Hollywood writers and directors are essentially 5 year old children, that aren't yet developed enough to handle criticism.

It was long, slow and pointless. But the worst part for me was when it became Harry Potter. After that, it had no chance of redemption.

Bad script, unconvincing acting, unnecessary scenes (like in many new movies/series these scenes should cause some impression/feeling by overemphasized it all), a bunch of "modern" imposed concepts (woke), ... Like everything lately, this movie was made to promote new ideology. Space-nazi troops and their evil leader who likes to get his hands dirty, main female character who can do anything (without special powers or augmentations), weak support male character, famous general living on street or space Tarzan waiting for rescue by some super trained chick (who was just one among many other super trained solders), … And such nonsenses in the story. -Space Empire finds lonely planet (where people barely feed themselves) to rob them of food, and there is lone lady working in fields while everyone has fun drinking and talking about debauchery as sort of pleasing gods (guess what R version will look like). Big strong guy in community that is after girl (and no other function in movie) and some week support character that is stupid enough to talk out of line and gets leader of community killed (and everyone is ok with that). And then girl kills bunch of highly trained planet conquering thugs. -Gathering of “heroes” (who do nothing really) to fight SPACE EMPIRE (with big ships, nukes that kill planets, space travelling technology) while wielding swords and shooting from handguns. -Sword fight against spider-lady (with heartbreaking story about kids) is so stupid and unnecessary, same as space Tarzan with bronco handling skills or drunk washout General with guilty conscience (because generals don’t get people killed), gay-bar as pointed in video, and more. All in all, movie doesn’t deserve high mark. Keep up with good work.

So there's making a Part 1 & Part 2 movie series, and then there's making half of a movie...

To me, unless he has a writer that knows how to do character development, Snyder simply sucks at that aspect. Visually, his style of filmmaking is impressive.

When I saw the scene of the ship and the portal I legit laughed out loud. I'm laughing while writing this comment lol. A truly innovative vision. I couldn't make it out from the shot you presented in the video but does the ship launch smaller ships from the front once it delves inside the portal? I mean, that would be the icing on the cake if that were true.

At this point I'm sure the "director's cut" is just a net to catch criticism which Snyder can then fix in the editing room.

At least the bad guy is wearing a proper SS-like uniform, instead of an armor that looks like a scrotum, we all know and enjoy from other, fantastic franchise!

You can definitely tell Snyder movies apart from others with his love of slow motion. It's similar to Michael Bay slow-mo but still distinct. Man that wormhole though. LMFAO it's hard to believe its shape wasn't on purpose, I mean it looks so much like a snapper it's hard to think otherwise.

Hah, I thought you'd cover Rebel Moon. It's the kind of thing you handle really well on this channel. I saw Rebel Moon on Christmas day, and even though I had low expectations going in, it was still a disappointment. The absolute flatness of the characters does bring things like Gotham Knights and Rings of Power to mind. You review it really well. It does feel like a video game, mixed with scenes taken from other films.

Why does everyone keep saying this movie looks good?!?! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills! The CGI is atrocious (with the exception of Jimmy the robot), the backdrops are flat and ugly, the use of green screen couldn't be more apparent, the ships look extremely plain with very little detail, and the use of an anamorphic T1.5 lens is baffling. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

I think Snyder would be better suited to making action games. Dude seems to love stylish action with very little substance on the surface. Movies don't really work with that kind of story, but video games were built off of not having to rely on storytelling to be good.

This really makes me wonder how Snider got a job at all. He demonstrates no actual writing mechanics in actually writing his own stories, the over and terrible use of slow motion is worth a Razzie, and he blatantly refuses to listen to anyone about his work. Many of the same criticisms for this can be said about his Justice League movie as well and he's clearly learned nothing or willing to listen to improve at any point.
