Some batteries require acid to be added to the actual battery before it is initially used in an application. We highly recommend taking the necessary precautions before installing new SLA batteries in your bike or ATV. Safety should be the number one priority when you fill a SLA battery with acid.
Preparation Needed:
- Safety Glasses
- Rubber Gloves
- Cardboard
- Needle Nose Pliers (optional)

One BIG thing left out of the video. When charging your levels might start changing again. You will need to top them back up with Distilled water(or more acid i believe). cap all cells when fully charged and make sure to maintain the battery well for the first months to sustain it for years.

I'm assuming that's premixed acid? Lead-Acid Batteries require only 30%-35% acid and topped off with distilled water. Also, the first initial charge should always be a slow trickle charge of no more than 1-2 amps.

Yes, our batteries are sent out with premixed acid. Only top off with distilled water if your fluid levels do not reach or have fallen below the upper-level line.

Hi, I've actually heard that leaving the caps off while the battery is charging will allow the battery to release hydrogen gas, which is obviously flammable. Is this true? should you put the caps back on right away? thank you, Pax Christi

Yes. Put them back on. The vent port on the side will do it's job.

Your acid bottle has a decent length of tubing. Mine provided a piece about 2" long and the spout is about half the length of the one you have. Not safe at all.

ok so I have a battery. 12.6 volts. but the cold crank when trying to start drops to around 5. I topped it off with acid and ran my car for about an hour to let the alternator charge it up. starred twice back to back. but not the third time. will it help if I empty the battery and put all new acid? or do I just need to charge it for longer? it still has 12.6 volts but won't start.

+Schaeffer Scott You need to put the battery on charge using an actual battery charger. If your attempting to charge up the battery by running the vehicle you would have to either drive about 700 miles or let the car sit and idle for well over 24 hours. Stock car alternators are designed to put a small trickle charge on the battery to replace the power that was taken out during the starting of the vehicle.

Your not supposed to top battery's off with acid unless it's a new battery without acid.

What happens if you don't remove the cap before filling and charging?

If the cap was not removed then the pressure would build up inside of the battery. Once this happens the top caps would most likely be pushed out of the battery by said pressure and make a mess.
