Another question... If you hook up 2 banks to 1 battery, will that speed up the charging process without any harm to the battery or charger?
@HighTechBatterySolutionsIncАй бұрын
Negative, it's been my experience that you will actually end up under charging the battery. The charger uses the voltage level of the battery to determine where it is in the charging process. My assumption here is that by having more than a single bank hooked up to the battery will artificially raise the voltage to much and trick both banks into shutting down earlier than needed to get a full charge into the battery.

My new 12v battery shows .04 and my old 12v charger is jumping around between 5-17. I assume this means they are both bad? If so, do you think my charger possibly ruined my new battery or did I possibly charge it too long? It worked fine until I tried to charge it for the first time.
@HighTechBatterySolutionsIncАй бұрын
Thats an extremely low voltage to be seeing on the new battery. The Power Wheels toy itself will not drain the battery past 10.5V maximum which leads me to believe that you may have an issue with that charger. Have you gotten a volt meter on the charger yet to see what its putting out?

@HighTechBatterySolutionsIncАй бұрын
I would recommend getting the battery tested ASAP to eliminate the battery as being the issue first and foremost. If the battery is testing good, then I would suggest contacting the company that installed the interlock to see why the drain is so high. We have seen this a few times, sometimes customers are able to take the vehicle back in to get an adjustment made to the interlock to either draw less, or not draw at all until the key is engaged.

Be careful using chargers that charge at more than 15 volts on AGM batteries such as the Odyssey's, etc. Higher than 15 volts will cause irreversible damage This Genius charger uses 14.8 (according to the manual), not sure if this is a little too much for AGM's but it is a much better charger than most of the other junk being sold. Read the Odyssey battery manual for charging. These AGM batteries have thinner lead plates which allow more to be packed into the same size case as standard lead acid batteries, which is how they get a higher density battery in the same case (more surface area), but these thinner plates are more prone to warping and even melting because of the higher heat from high voltages. Read AGM battery charging specs. AGM's should be charged with current while limiting the voltage. Odyssey's love higher current charging, not higher voltage. (read the charging specs). 13.6 to 13.8v is ideal for float charging (trickle charge). Look for chargers that use high frequency to desulfate AGM batteries, not high voltage pulses.

I need to leave my car at the airport for a few days at a time in -15 to -30 C temps. My particular model is notorious for parasitic draw while parked so I would like to hard wire this and plug it in while I am away at work. I don’t want to have to pop the hood and hook up the clips every time. Is there any issue with running the vehicle while it’s wired? I assume the electronics will protect it if it’s just in maintainer mode?
@HighTechBatterySolutionsInc2 ай бұрын
You can start the vehicle with the charger hardwired without an issue as long as the charger is disconnected from AC power. Keep in mind that the NOCO GENIUS series needs access to AC power in order to charger your car battery, so in a majority of airport parking garages I've been in there was no access to power. That being said you can hardwire this unit without an issue. NOCO also makes the GENIUS2D which is a smaller 2A charger but its completely sealed and will be unaffected by water and grime from the road.

I have this charger and for the first few months (arbitrary, was taking detailed notes) it worked fine. This included switching out of "maintenance mode" and recharging the battery when loads were placed on them. My shunt would record essentially 0 amps when in standby and when I applied a load I could see the - amps for a while and eventually I would see + amps (varied based on load but the math was always "load - 5amps" as expected) as the charger sensed and began to replenish the battery. If I were plugged in and using loads my battery was basically always at 100% per my shunt indicator. And then I noticed when checking the battery monitor that it was at 90%, or lower depending on how long since I checked. Long story short, the charger would not come out of "maintenance mode". Unplugging and replugging would initiate a complete charge cycle back to 100% at ~5amps. But then the same failure to come out of "maintenance mode" would result. This is on a LiFePO4 100ah battery. I now have a heater assembly on the battery that draws DC power from the system as needed to maintain greater than 40F. The battery BMS has a cold temp cutoff circuit which was activating a few overnights before I had a chance to install the heating system. I see nothing in the Noco manual about this interfering with the charger sensing circuitry. Do you have any insight on this phenomenon? I've spoken with tech support and made no progress beyond offering to take my unit back to se if they can duplicate. In the meantime I've purchased a different charger but have not installed it yet. I'd rather not use that style charger as it is more of a hobby/workbench charger and not "designed" as a 12vdc battery system charger. I have high regard for the Noco brand but I cannot figure out why this is happening, beyond a glitch in the microprocessor and/or sensing programming.

The snowflake mode should be used in cold temperatures in general. The mode will still put the charger into its maintenance mode once the battery is fully charged. It essentially delivers a bit of a higher rate of charge to compensate for the affects cold weather has on the charging process.
