I bought one of her babies off eBay about a year ago. He too was chalky and didn’t have much paint or detail in my opinion either. His hair was painted with a small amount of rooted hair over the very middle top. His nails weren’t painted and I believe the chalkiness to be the varnish too. I was very disappointed, but had read her profile to read she began painting dolls because her daughters wanted one and she saw how expensive they were, so she painted them one herself and then started painting them to sell to people at affordable prices. This was a year or more ago and I still paid over $300 for the doll. It sucks when you see photos and are so excited for the baby only to be disappointed. I’m sorry this happened to you too.

Thank you for sharing the box opening and honest review. I have not had this kind of experience myself and consider myself lucky so far. Reborns has been the most fun doll I have ever collected. I can't speak for others but if I was the artist, would be grateful that someone took the time to review my work. It is a lovely doll and would make an adorable cuddle baby. :)

eBay is the last place to get a reborn… judging on the looks of it, you got scammed. That’s not what a reborn is supposed to look like. Or it’s a used doll that was potentially repurposed. Try Marry Shortle. They have excellent products.

So sorry you experienced this. It's ridiculous when people scam collectors on purpose. I hope you receive a full refund for your great sacrifice. Money doesn't grow on trees just to be given away.

Oh no honey. I would def open a case or try to contact the artist. This should have been disclosed. Always ask for detailed pictures of all limbs. Its a must these days. She looks to be like a new artist that didn’t take much care. He’s more of a boo boo baby. I would not accept that kind of work for the money these dolls are worth. You tried to be positive so bless you.

I paid £150 (less then 200 dollars) for my reborn knowing he wouldn't be as realistic as some higher price dolls, yet he still painted 100% better then this one. I'm so sorry this happened to you x

Updating to see that she's been painting 10yrs wow she def should have those Creases in check She may be a newer artist . Seems like she's just starting out . She prob didn't know how to set the varnish properly and need to work on creasing etc a bit more. Is what I'm thinking. Those are the more "tedious " areas to do but worth it if you take your time for it. Air dry dries quick so it's important to hit those Creases quick before they dry .

Maybe she was blindfolded when she painted him. I’ve had similar experiences and it can be disappointing for sure. But he has an adorable little face, even though the rest of him can use some tlc.

So sad, they let the paint pool and didn't blot it out before it dried and or baked it. It looks like flesh 08 paint that pooled. Flesh tones will leave chalky residue if not blotted out and is allowed to pool. She should see the video, this way she can learn from the mistake. I would want to see it and learn where I was going wrong. When reborning you can't just focus on the face, the limbs matter a lot too. We need to strive for complete realism, not partial.

I’m sorry this experience was a bad one, but thanks for sharing it as it is very helpful for those of us who are hoping to buy our first reborn doll. The creator is still active. On one popular sales site, someone else stated that the hands and feet on the doll that she ordered could have been done better, and that some glossing could be seen to have dripped on the head. The creator responded that no-one had experienced a problem with her painting style before. Her dolls do look beautiful on the website but for the amount of money she charges, one would expect more attention to detail.

Originals are bought by the artists themselves and they can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars.

How sad. I hope there isn't toxic chemicals on this doll!

Hopefully the seller will receive the message well and will learn from her excess amount of painting flaws in this baby. Like you said artists aren’t perfect but they do need to be able to accept criticism to learn how to develop their skills. On the bright side his head doesn’t seem too bad. If all else fails a cuddle body could make him useable.

Looks like she is a beginner and charging more for dolls then there worth. His head should be that heavy alot of people don't tip nails if preemie or small hes cute but I would buy off that artist ever

The person that sold it to you is not the artist. She probably bought it and then wanted to get rid of it. It sounds you have been scammed. Original artists take their time on their art. They spend lots of money on the kits to make them.

Its easy to tell the artist WAyyyyy overstuffed the head. It's bulging too much. The artist was obviously a beginner.

I don’t know about these dolls , I’ve heard of them but not sure how they should be I thought kids play with them to be honest. But I can hear you’re frustration and I can see what you’re talking about she should have posted full pictures of the entire body . When I sell online I make sure to post every angle of an item with a full description of every detail. Because I don’t want no surprises with the buyer gets the item. I’m so sorry you’re not happy with you’re purchase he is beautiful though. ♥️

I would say she is a newer artist. I know I did some of that at the beginning. I’m not sure about air dry paints but the white chalk is usually from the varnish being to thick and pooled in the creases and she didn’t get it all out. I have done babies without nail tipping if the baby was tiny. With the eyelashes you can just wet them and put them were you want them and let them air dry. I can say still being a newer artist, creases are hard for me still. It’s definitely the more you paint the better you get. I think he is cute and you could ask someone who does air dry painting with the chalking could be fixed. But he is cute and I think he looks like a Steven.

I use air dry once varnish dries it's hard to get off baby is cute but like u said limbs need more attention . U can put him in sleepers and he or she will be so cute

I’m sorry but Not EVERYONE can be a reborn artist…it takes a special kind of skill & talent to be one. People shouldn’t make crappy dolls just to sell them cheap. Realistically a beautiful reborn will cost anywhere from $500-$1,000 & over. Once in awhile, on rare occasions a beautiful reborn may sell cheaper due to the artist needing funds quickly or a gently used reborn from a collector is selling a baby. But if this “artist “ took the time to paint hair & the head, she could have painted the limbs, no excuse.
