It's a joy to watch the rebuild. Part of farming is equipment repair and maintenance. After the rebuild, the Super C will give you many years of service, plus it would be fun to drive an almost new condition tractor.

Give the director and film crew and editor a raise. Good job putting the final cut all together into a contiguous progression of narrated detailed steps. 😉 Perhaps; just for a personal historical record; you can do a behind the scenes one day and show just how mentally challenging and time consuming this solo process is to accomplish.

Don't comment all the time, but gotta tell you Pete love watching these videos from the fence fixing, to making hay, farmers market and everything in-between. Love these mechanical videos the most. Brings back memories of when I was tinkering with small engines and worked my way up to my 1st 350 Pontiac complete rebuild pice by pice. Took me a better half of winter 5months but I was 15 & my income was my paper route. Aaah the memories your channel brings back. God bless you and your family 👪

Your videos are outstanding! Narration is good with some humour thrown in. Visually everything is well lit and in focus! Very refreshing not hearing excuses about lighting or forgetting to turn the camera on or an incoherent voice over etc. My neighbour has just delivered his John Deer 2120 to my garage (towed and pushed). It needs at the minimum a new starter and clutch. Having only ever worked on one tractor before I am going down the KZfaq rabbit hole. So far your videos are by far the best. The only mechanical content that I have seen that comes close is Land Rover Time done by a german couple. In the words of Kung Fu Panda - " There is no extra charge for awesomeness".

With the timing cover, one of the things I used to do when assembling engines, was to use a body hammer and dolly to flatten the "cone" that forms on the inside. Then also use the largest washer or Valve cover type bridge washers to spread the load out across a larger surface area.

I have a recommendation for heating parts before installation. This past August my wife and I rebuilt the final drives on a JD 5400 tractor. The outer bearings on the shafts had to be pressed off to put them on new axles. The repair manual suggested heating the bearings in oil to the temperature of 350 degrees. My wife came up with the idea to use our electric fryer. We had some old vegetable oil from a past fish fry. We dropped the bearings in and in 15 minutes they were so hot they slid on without a fuss.

Started in GM dealership in 1979. Because I was the "NEWBY" I somehow got all the jobs the other tech/mechanics did not want. I remember the "rope" rear main seals that were so much fun to install while it was dripping oil all over you. They had a special tool to pull the seal into place. Now this was replace with a two piece push in seal that was easy but leaked in a couple of months.

Hey Pete, ANOTHER EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! As I said before I am not what you would call a "mechanic". I know my way around things, but never really did get into the whole "engine building thing" and have very little knowledge of how things truly work. But your videos go a LONG WAY into explaining those things to me, and I always leave your channel feeling a little bit more knowledgeable about things. So again, I have to say "Thank you" for what you do!

I'm assuming you like that rotating part of the engine stand. If only they built the engine stand a little sturdier. I enjoy watching your engine building and tractor work. I wanted to tell you about a video I saw some years ago. A guy was assembling an engine in Germany and before he put the oil pan on, he went and sprayed oil all over the inside of that engine. I thought that was a very good idea and that I would do the same on my next rebuild.

I did so many of these same things when I had to replace the timing gears on my '55 Chevy six cylinder. The difference is I only raised the engine up off of the motor mounts instead of taking it loose from the transmission. The oil pump is very similar -- the distributor fits into the top of the slotted shaft and my engine does not have a governor. I did not replace the rear main seal but what I did was a big enough job. The engine runs but I had a fuel starvation problem for some reason so I dropped the fuel tank, cleaned and inspected, painted it and have ordered a new fuel line to run from the tank to the pump. I am now doing some body work as much of the sheet metal in the trunk was rust and the trunk latch bracket broke. After I get the new metal welded in I will hang the tank and hook up the new line. I love the way you take your time to make sure the task is done right. I would like to know (perhaps you could explain in an upcoming video) why tractor engines have governors and auto engines never have. What exactly do governors do that you cannot do with a throttle?
