So idk if you actually got an answer or not yet on the temperature not being able to go down to 180 during low mode it's because the factory minimum feed rate is set high to compensate for bad pellets or unknown pellets. If you're using decent pellets, and its a hot day (summer time) you can bring your feed rate down. Press and hold the Up Arrow and Temp Display at the same time until 65 pops up and the red light is on Set Point. this is the Minimum Feed Rate Setting. Lower it to 30 and it should solve your issue. Also, If you find that your actual temperature is different than a trusted AMBIENT temp probe you can adjust the grill offset to match it so you dont over cook\ undercook your food. Once you press the Temp Display button the red light will move to Actual and the screen should read 0, this is the Offset feature. (Offset ranges are +20 and - 20) Press Temp Display again and the red light will move to Meat, this is the Meat Probe Calibration. (Meat Probe ranges are +10 and - 10) Use the Up and Down arrows to adjust all the settings - pressing the Temp Display button continuously will cycle between these three screens in a loop. To Exit settings, simply press Power.

Hi Steve. Thanks for another great video. As for the temp issue, I’m wondering if laying your probe wires on the rim keeps the lid from closing properly. That might allow a bit more air in the chamber. I’d be curious to see the same cook, using the pre drilled probe port below the lip of the grill. Thanks again and looking forward to more of your videos.

John, the ThermoWork probe would not fit through the pre-drilled hole which is only reason why I had to lay the wire on the rim. So yes, there was a very small bit of additional air that was getting into the chamber...so that def could have affected it. REC TEC also suggested adjusting the feed rate to 65 to 30...so that’s something I’ll test out too.

Have the exact same setup just widened the hole a little using a drill. Are you seeing vastly different temperature between the pit probe and the “actual temp” on the RT? Difference of about 50 degrees Fahrenheit for me.

I'm curious on that flame at the end. Just confirming there should be no flame if the cover is closed because of the smoke? I constantly have problems with flames on older style gas grills especially if the meat is fatty. Thank you for the video!

In riot mode, it gets so hot that if the lid is open long enough...like it was in the video for me to explain what I was doing...and there's any grease on the heat deflector...then yes, there's the possibility...but as soon as you shut the lid it will go out. I've had quite a few people ask me about this. Basically, after any greasy cook, you'll want to do a high heat burn for 10-15 min to burn any residual grease off.

Nice detailed video! What's your opinion on grease flare ups when using more like a grill than smoker? Was curious since there is no drip tray. Say just "grilling" burger and brats hot and fast for example? Appreciate you.

I’m actually glad I had a quick flare up in the video bc I don’t want to hide the fact that it can happen. Shoot...even in some of REC TEC’s early promo stuff on it there were flare ups. It can happen if you leave the lid open too long but it will quickly go out as long as you don’t have significant grease build up and shut the lid right away. On this grill, best thing to do after a greasy cook is do a high heat burn with the lid shut after your cook and you should be good.

Thank you for the vid. Reverse sear is the best way to cook a steak imo. Was bummed to see such a temp swing from the set point. Have you had that much variance from other cooks?
@StokedOnSmoke
@StokedOnSmoke 4 жыл бұрын
No the temp is always dead on in any other situation. It was just this low mode that seemed a little inconsistent. As I mentioned in the video, REC TEC suggested I adjust the feed rate so I’ll be testing that out. The lid also wasn’t completely shut bc it was laying on the wire of my ThermoWorks prob bc the end of the probe wouldn’t fit through the pre-drilled hole for the supplied REC TEC meat probe. So there was some extra air getting in there too that most likely affected it.

Are you happy with the searing ability of the bullseye? I have a RT700 and was considering adding a bullseye for high heat cooks and reverse searing. Can you get a good crust on steaks? I’m growing a bit concerned after watching this video that the stock cooking grate might not cut it (perhaps I’ll have to invest in another surface).
@StokedOnSmoke

Yes, it def sears very well, but if you want to up your game with searing on it, then adding some GrillGrates to it is a good option.

Cool Video! Question, are the outer diameter of the grill hotter than the center in RIOT mode? Flair up an issue?
@StokedOnSmoke
@StokedOnSmoke 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...good question. Next time I have it in riot mode I’ll try and remember to compare with my IR gun. You could prob ask around on the REC TEC FB fan page too. Flare ups will only be an issue if you have a lot of grease build up. It’s best to do a high heat burn for 10-15 min after a greasy cook.

Steve, is your deflector lip side down? It looks like it in the video. Rec Tec says it needs to be lip side up for it to function properly.
@StokedOnSmoke
@StokedOnSmoke 4 жыл бұрын
Yep...you're right. I just checked and lip side was down. Problem is that I got an early demo unit before it was released and didn't have a user manual and wasn't aware of that til now...so thanks. It'll be interesting to see what difference that actually makes.

@@StokedOnSmoke I did the same thing with my bullseye with the heat shield upside down. But, I bought it already assembled at Rec Tec, so someone there dropped the ball. It does help with the grease keeping it inside instead of possibly leaking into the fire pot.

@StokedOnSmoke - good video! Which brand pellets do you use and have had the best experience with as far as best or highest amount of smoke flavor when using the Bullseye?
@StokedOnSmoke
@StokedOnSmoke 4 жыл бұрын
I use the REC TEC pellets, but as long as you’re using fresh pellets that are 100% natural hardwood, most brands will be just fine. I like the blend of the REC TEC pellets, but there are other good ones out there.

StokedOnSmoke - thx. do you get a good amount of smoke flavor?
@StokedOnSmoke
@StokedOnSmoke 4 жыл бұрын
Most pellet grills produce a nice, subtle smoke flavor. In most people’s opinion...it’s perfect...but if you want a more pronounced smoke flavor you can add a smoke tube inside the cook chamber.
@StokedOnSmoke

And specific to the Bullseye...it’s subtle. Not too much...not too little.
