Tier 1 Concealed

2 жыл бұрын

We head up into the beautiful Utah mountains to test our some of our “recce” style rifle builds. We’re all running similar steps with barrels ranging from 11.5” to 16”. We set up some fun courses of fire and are hitting TA Targets Mini A-adap steel from 30-400 yards. Let us know in the comments whose rifle you liked the most and if we should film some more rifle videos like this!

I like how they went over what a "true" recce build was and then almost none of the guns they shot fit into that definition.

My exp, no REAL recce rifle. It's all preference based on long range, close engagement and ability to observe with better optics. Think ballistic binoculars. Run what you want. Think recon, snooping on enemy, trying not to be compromised, not engaging unless necessary with as little as action as possible, and retreat.
@mattysee24

recce rifle is an arbitrary term. it means something different to every person. there's no set definition. the gun industry and guntubers use these buzzwords because it sells. ppl eat this stuff up.

The term RECCE is short for reconnaissance or reconnoiter. Say if we were told we have a LRRP for instance. We would set our kit up for such. Could be Rhodesian chest rigs which are lighter and honestly what I call mountain guns. 16-20in. A variety of optics and red dots. Bi pods or no bipods. Depending on if you’re expecting close engagement or something say 300 yards and out. It’s all up to you.

I like this range, and a great way to challenge yourself! Multiple targets, various distances, running between fire points. It's always great hearing the comments on equipment, guns are tools, you set them up for your needs and budget, most important is for the tool behind the tool to learn how to use his tool/s. Nice vid!

Liked the dude running the mk5. Very similar to the DMR I run at local precision rifle matches with 77gr. I personally like the Tremor3 reticle option for fast follow ups and wind estimation... That was very satisfying seeing all of you ring steel at distance. Edit: maybe the real RECCE rifle is the friends we made along the way

It really seems like the different classification are up to interpretation in the civie sector. At least that's what I see online these days. Lines between SPR, DMR, and Recce seem to be blurred at this point. Just my observation.

That’s a Mk12 Mod H. Recce was kind of it’s own thing and had no set in stone parts set. The originals were Colt upper and BCG, Lilja SEAL Recon 16.5” barrel, KAC FF RAS med or long. The older ones had Leupy VX3 3-9 with capped target turrets, later has NF 2.5-10x24’s. Some had NT4’s, others had chopped 15” barrels with AEM5’s. By the 2010s, Recce was more a carbine config than it’s own upper. Block II and III M4’s with high mag scopes is commonplace in SOCOM now.

regarding the thumbnail, when using a barricade (tree) on the ejection side of the rifle, make sure there is sufficient space for the round to eject, otherwise you can end up with a case stuck in the chamber in some really weird ways.

My "recce" build is a 13.7" B.A. Hanson profile barrel, Aero upper, cheap 12" UnBranded AR hand guard (for now, although its pretty decent for the money), H2 buffer with a chrome silicon spring, Aero BCG, a P.A. 1-8x LPVO, and a form 1 titanium suppressor. That Hanson barrel is the shit for shooting suppressed. It won't cycle steel cased though b/c the gas port is only .054". Love the pinned gas block on it and have been very happy with multiple B.A. products. For the money, I honestly believe they are one of the best you can get. $100 for a standard barrel on BDU, $165 for the Hanson profile. I live in the deep south so even getting a clear line of sight to shoot 200 yards is tough. It would be a very rare circumstance to be able to shoot 600-800 yards I generally stick to a 50/200 yard zero. Maybe shooting down a road way is about the only place with that kind of clear line of sight. I'd love to be able to shoot in the hills like this.

I'm not sure about this "faux recce" stuff considering the "recce rifle" isn't actually a designation of military weaponry like the MK12 aka SPR's which specifically calls for an 18" barrel among other specs. As I understand it, the "recce rifle" were m16's that utilized 16" accurized barrels with a mid-length gas system and a variable power optic, at the time a Leupold 2.5-8x scopes, that allowed SEALs to be able to conduct reconnaissance mission while being light weight, accurate out to 500 meters and could still be effective in CQB environments. As times have changed, the use of LVPO's have become common place as the specific "recce rifle" role which will use anything from a 1-6 to a 1-10 typically with some type of offset sight. That being said, just like a "sniper rifle", anything used in a reconnaissance role could technically be considered a "recce rifle" but the choice is based on the operators needs/ preferred configurations but that still wouldn't change the designation of preexisting weapons systems. Awesome content btw, keep up the good work.

everyone wants a trophy - if you want to label your rifle "recce" go ahead, but pretty sure actual recce rifles were 18" mk12 variants

I see a lot of dudes on here bumping their gums but aren't posting pictures or videos of their builds, or their training???? Hiding behind a computer screen pretending to be god's gift to the gun world lol. Great video i enjoyed it.

All it takes to make any rifle a "Recce" rifle is a can of OD Green Spraypaint, some netting and a target beyond 50m. lol.

On that 13.7 are you using the Hanson or Government profile?

If you're trying to choose b/t the two...Hanson profile all the way. It has a very small gas port for shooting suppressed as well as a pinned gas block. I love mine. Mine is the carbine length version, but they now have a midlength version as well which should be even softer shooting.

@@oldscratch3535 I have the 10.3 Hanson. My next question would be, with the longer Hanson profile (13.7- 13.9) do you experience a greater point of impact shift shooting suppressed due too the added weight of a suppressor and the thinner profile.

@@pmorin313 If you're thinking about one over the other, I would probably go with the 13.9 for one reason, its easier to find muzzle devices that are long enough to make the OAL 16" if you want to pin and weld it so you don't have to run a brace. I went with the 13.7" and there really aren't many good solutions for suppressor mounting options if you want to pin and weld b/c you can't get to 16" without using a shit load of shims. I tried to do it with my Surefire muzzle brake, which is already one of the longer suppressor mounts, and I couldn't get to 16" and still have sufficient thread engagement. B/c you have to time the muzzle device I just couldn't find a sweet spot where it was timed correctly and still over 16" so I'm stuck with a brace for now. I have a form 1 titanium suppressor so its pretty light. I experienced roughly a 6" lower POI at 50 yards with the suppressor installed. When I put that same can on my 10.5" BRN-180s, I experience no POI shift. I haven't done a ton of shooting with the 13.7" so I can't say if the POI shift is repeatable or not, but I did experience a shift. My next form 1 build is using a Surefire QD mount that was cut from a Surefire Warden and tig welded into a 304 stainless tube. I can now use any Surefire mounting device. It is going to be extremely heavy so I'm interested to see if I see more POI shift with it vs my titanium can.
