I had several questions and things I didn’t cover in my first video. Hopefully this will help make your reweld build easier and headache free.

I respect men who take pride in their craft. Welding is not simple, so many things you have to consider before starting a project and I suck at welding. I’m a retired Army Infantry NCO so I’m impressed at you bringing a weapon back from the dead!

Just for the Aesthetics now that you have the receiver, you should do a complete video of you putting the art project back together w/ all the pins, parts, etc. until it’s a finished build. Would be very satisfying to watch.

This is one of the best explanations I've ever seen. I'm a bit surprised that you didn't add some spacing to account for metal shrinkage. I found that sometimes it shrinks a bit even when I did tack welds.
@bluekouki862 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the kind words. There will be minimal shrinkage even with proper tacks, but I’ve had good luck using this jig and making sure to test fit. I’m doing this as a hobby not a professional, so I’m sure there are many additional tricks the pros use.
@vettepicking Жыл бұрын
Nice work. I like to tig weld up the edges to minimize gaps between pieces, grind to fit , then bevel for penetration. With zero gaps the welding shrinkage is minimal.

Brother, I’m so jealous of your skill set. I can build the hell out of Garands and carbines and 03 Springfield’s and such but when it comes to welding I’m lost! I had a Galil with a folding stock that took AR mags, I bought it from a guy who set it up like that gun from the movie Heat, but I wound up trading it. Great video, very informative! 👍

I watched your last video on rewelding. It helped out a lot. I especially appreciate the tip on using copper backing. Made cleaning up the inside easier if I did have to. Couple welds didn't even need that. I wouldn't have had the gumption to do a reweld if not for your video. I tested my SAR a couple weeks ago and it works great. What do you do for refinishing your welds? I like the old finish but I don't know how to refinish the welds to match it up. Might just have to do a complete reparkerize
@bluekouki862 жыл бұрын
That’s great to hear! If you have the equipment for reparkerizing that is the best way. You can also just paint the whole thing with an epoxy paint and bake it.

I'm doing an art project and after 4 years or so can do decent with a simple stick welder. Hole filling, gap filling, grinding, etc. Metal art is fun. Do you still have the jig? Would you sell it? You've sure got a great receiver to work with. That front chunk is long. Wish mine had been that way. Mine's cut right through lug area.

How many amps were you running for those welds, and what size on the filler and tungsten? Also, what did you do for the ejector? Did you heat treat it after?
@bluekouki862 жыл бұрын
Amperage varies constantly. I set my machine at 200 amps and control it with a remote pedal. I use 1/8” tungsten and 3/32” er80s fill rod. I did not do anything special for ejector heat treat, and so far is holding up fine without deformation.

I take the opportunity to ask the question; Are the AK and Galil frames interchangeable or compatible with any mods?
@grantamos62997 ай бұрын
Negative, galili was heavily inspired by the ak/valmet 76 rifles but it is not an exact copy or clone. There is/was a company that made a kit to where you could use an akm stamped receiver on your galil build. I believe kit includes front and rear trunions compatible with galil barrel/folding stock that would rivet into standard akm recievera. I can't remember which company made/makes them but it was one of the more popular well established receiver manufacturers. Shouldn't be too hard to find with Google and a couple minutes of time.
@josh87yy12 жыл бұрын
How'd you fill the area that was missing a huge amount of material?
@bluekouki862 жыл бұрын
That is what the fill rod is for. I use ER80s. You don’t want them tight because #1 it would be too short, and #2 you wouldn’t get complete penetration for a quality weld.

Could this be possible with a stick welder? I'm guessing it's not the most optimal choice but just wondering
@bluekouki862 жыл бұрын
Possible? Probably. A good idea? Not really. You absolutely do not want that kind of heat, and the ability to make small welds with a TIG or even a MIG is much preferred. I’m guessing a stick welder would just warp the hell out of it, and be a huge mess.
@Aeroshogun Жыл бұрын
@@bluekouki86thanks for this advice. I’m a noob at welding and I was going to attempt this with a stick welder. I have an SKS receiver I want to reweld.

@@Aeroshogun I reccomend tig or mig welding. Stick is for thicker metals plus you’ll ruin your price with warping

Mig is definitely possible. I personally prefer Tig because of the greater amount of control. Mig will put more heat into the work so be very cautious because warping will be more likely to develop.

I have a friend i'm trying to convince. He wants a Beretta PM-12 parts kit. He thinks he can not only reweld the reciever without a jig. But also thinks he can reweld the barrel. You as an experienced welder, how can I convince him he's wasting his time and potentially endangering his self. This guy knows how to weld but has never worked on parts kits in his life and thinks he knows everything, it's quite annoying actually.
