Watch this video and then decide if its in your comfort level to attempt. If I can do it, you can do it BUT it did NOT go this smoothly the first time I ever tried it. Now its not a big deal. Good luck guys and gals! Comments always welcome.

Used it today! Needed the part about where the internal spring notch catches on the notch oart of the housing assembly... Then learned I can't turn more than 7 times without it popping off... Got everything assembled with the pull cord replaced with diamond cord kit and VOILA! Started right up! Bless You Brother 🙏👍

Easier way. Start by hooking the spring to the housing where it's going to end up. Then wind the spring backwards. The housing holds it in place so you can use both hands.

Extremely useful video , thank you. Seeing the inner end of the spring being bent showed me that my spring had bent when it came loose. I re-bent it and jiggled it like you did and it went home. Also the way the ratchets work helped because I'd put the top cap on 90 degree wrong and the ratchets didn't come out. Thanks heaps !

I was able to get my spring wound with a few modification to your process. The main problem was I kept ending up with the center hole being too small to fit over the round protrusion in the center of the spring well. The modification was to place a stack of three quarters in the center of the spring and then wind around that. I suppose any strong disk of about that size would have worked but a stack of coins is what I thought of first. Also, wrapping around the stack of quarters seemed to make the wrap more stable. Of course this could have been me getting better at it with each try. The other modification was simply to cut the heads off the nails, to make it easier to lift the coiled spring up away from the nails without the spring catching the heads. Anyway, thanks for the video!

For each of the few Ive made, there's far more bloopers, screw ups, retakes, re-starts, re-stops, do-overs and "aww dang that was dumb, ok forget this video" moments, than there ever is of usable video, so I don't make very many.😂🤣😂🤣 I guess it "might" help if I'd learn how to do some video editing but all I know is how to shorten it be cutting off some of the beginning or ending. 🙈

Nice video. It helped me a lot. I ended up doing a slight variation of this method and was able to rewind the old spring that had popped out. I ended up hooking the outer bend to the notch on the wheel, then took a needle nose vise grip and just wound the inner hook. until it was tight and small to drop in the hole. The only drawback was the inner hook was not as level with the rest of the spring and I had to force down to make it not stick out Your method would eliminate what I encountered.

A safer and easier way would be to buy a Pulley and Spring Assembly, Briggs & Stratton, part #498144, Amazon US $17.15 (Apr 2024). Remove the old pulley & spring assembly, drop the new one in place, rewind it counter clockwise 7 times, line up the rope entrance way on the plastic pulley with the hole on the steel shroud, insert a screw driver to hold it in place, tie a knot on a new rope and insert it through the plastic pulley and out through the steel shroud, hold the rope and remove the screwdriver an slowly let the pulley turn clockwise until it comes to a stop. @@ZombieDaveAZ It is going quite well in the Netherlands. Almost no new people with corona. You only need to wear a mask in public transport. Furthermore, keep 1.5 meters (6 feet) away from others. If you feel sick you must stay at home and you will be tested. Everyone works from home as much as possible, including me for 4 months now. Our government makes decisions based on science and what the experts say. Explains everything clearly on TV and shares all information honestly and also says that they have to make decisions based on the data they have at the moment, so it can sometimes be wrong but they do everything to keep it under control .We (our family) have all been ill but we were not tested (there were not enough tests in the beginning), so we don't know if we have had it. More and more companees are opening up but people are all very careful. Young people see few problems and want more and more freedom, so there will still be new outbreaks, but the hospitals can handle the pressure. I am afraid of the second wave after the summer, but we are now better prepared than in January. time will tell. Stay strong and safe. Greetings Mark

How tight should the 10mm bolt be just enough to let the lil arms come out?
@ZombieDaveAZ
@ZombieDaveAZ 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Alexandra. The 10mm bolt should be a shoulder bolt so just snug should do the job.

When I try put the rope round it’s clicks and doesn’t take the rope around and has no resistance
@ZombieDaveAZ
@ZombieDaveAZ 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh, thats because the soring did not catch on the center part. If you are sure that it IS catching in the middle, you are winding th rope the opposite way of how it should be. You will get it just have a little patience. 👍

Would it have been easier just to buy a new spring pulley it comes with a new spring. It,s ten bucks.
@ZombieDaveAZ
@ZombieDaveAZ 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely it would be easier but not all of us like to do things the easy way. The way I see it is like this. You can load the mower and take it to a shop and have someone else repair it. OR you can search on Amazon and get the spring and pulley like you suggested. Then there's guys like me that enjoy fixing things but need a little guidance. So we go to KZfaq and see how others do the repair. Then make the repair. It gives you a good feeling when you do stuff with your own hands. 🍺👍😷

You do not have to remove the spring to replace a rope
@ZombieDaveAZ
@ZombieDaveAZ 5 жыл бұрын
Listen to what I say @0:37 . Im speaking in the 3rd person as if you may have attempted to replace a rope or spring and you somehow managed to have the spring unload on you. You are correct. No need to remove the pulley to replace a rope. 👍

@Benny Russell Most people are here because we searched how to recoil the pull start. It's pretty self explanatory when replacing a pull rope, don't think there would be much of a video on a simple job like a pull rope.

Hi Dave, Still looking for clearance for this content. Honestly, this is a fair and honest request from a producer (myself) based in Sydney, Aus looking for your permission to use a section of one of your films in a clients online video. The video to be produced focusses on how people can teach themselves almost anything through KZfaq and we think your videos are a great example of this and would be great supporting content. You can contact me at stevi.russell@vmlyr.com as I have mentioned below. If you don't wish to communicate I wont bother you further. Thanks S
