That's true. The second wife, who is the protagonist is never named. Rebecca is the name of Maxim's (the protagonist's husband) first wife. It's a good book so I don't want to give anything away here since I'm guessing you haven't read it. It's by Daphne DuMaurier.

@@adrithmanvik1853 halfway through the series or the first book (The Final Empire, sometimes people call it just Mistborn)? If it's #1 book then absolutely continue, it gets better in the end of it and I was truly hooked in #2 book. If you're halfway through the series and hate Vin then you wouldn't like the #3 book either :)

I found Vin and Elend a bit boring, to be honest. I liked Elend at first, but then he became boring to me. But, if you like the world Sanderson created and you like the plot, you could keep reading. I actually kept reading because of that and also because I really liked some seconday characters a lot! Sazed, TenSoon, Marsh, Spook, Zane, etc. They are a million times better than Vin and Elend (I liked Kelsier a lot too, but those secondary ones I mentioned are better). They are worth the read in my opinion.

I’ve recommended this before but the next Crichton you should read is Timeline-basically a couple archaeologists get trapped in the 1300s. It and Congo were probably the closest Crichton got to Jurassic Park for me. If you are interested in the real science behind Jurassic Park he got almost all of it from The Dinosaur Heresies (Robert Bakker), which although outdated I had a great time reading

It seems I have to add some Fredrick Backman to my list. I've never heard of this author before, but it sounds like something I'd really enjoy. With how much you love The First Law Trilogy (literally in your top fantasy list and you cite Abercrombie as one of your favorite writers ever) I can't express enough how much you really, REALLY need to get around to reading the rest of the series. There are 7 books currently in the series and you've only read 3 of them... Best Served Cold, the very next book chronologically in the series for you to read, is in my opinion Abercrombie's greatest work to date.

I am a huge fan of your One Piece videos and even though you've probably been asked this question before, would you ever consider to read or talk about something as heavy as Berserk? I really love the way you dissect the themes in a story so listening to you talk about it would be amazing. I know it's not a light hearted story or anything close to it but i was just wondering. Keep up the good work Merphy. edit: I just saw you talk about the first volume. It's a shame that you won't read it but it's understandable yet i still feel that the arc (Golden Age) that you were about to start had you continued would've made you see the beauty in the story and yes it touches on deeply disturbing themes but it's so much more than that.

For a while, I struggled to find time/motivation to read, but after finding your channel (and a couple of your friends') I've 'rediscovered' my love of books and am currently binge-reading fantasy series based on your recommendations. So thank you :) To return the favour: I highly recommend "Till We Have Faces" by C.S. Lewis - not his best known, but both Lewis & Tolkien considered it his finest work and I have to agree! It has fantasy elements, though it's your typical fantasy read - I'd probably place it under literary fiction. I think it might just be a good fit for you :)

What a great idea! You made me want to read some Edgar Allan Poe's stories again ❤ I didn't love them all, but I still believe this author is a genius and I love clever writing. :) I've read Peter Pan for the second time not so long ago. I loved it the first time and loved it again, but realized that the adventures in Neverland were so few! My imagination had made it seemed like J. M. Barrie explored this world he created in a much deeper way (but there are still so many mysteries!). I must say I'm craving for more, but I want it to be close enough to Barrie's spirit. I didn't enjoy LOTR (I DNFed it once I reached chapter four - Treebeard - of The Two Towers), but I'm still planning to read at least The Two Towers as it's your favourite one and I really need to know why (and I want to hear your thoughts knowing what you're talking about). Many things didn't work for me and it really breaks my heart. Same for Frankenstein, I couldn't root for the Doctor for so many reasons and many things didn't seem to make sense at all, it drove me crazy. :/ The Monster wasn't convincing to me as a "suffering human" and the Doctor's struggles just put his whole family in danger, and though he knew it, he still made the same mistakes over and over again. I was so angry at him...

So many of these picks that I have read or have ready to read (the library grows faster than I can read, haha). I love the pick of The Troop - that was a book that gripped me and disgusted me in a very horrifying yet not repulsive way. It satisfied being horror for me and it has stayed with me long after reading it. I loved it so much for its descriptiveness and deep levels of oncoming dread that I had a lot of hope for Nick Cutter's unrelated follow-up The Deep. I was disappointed by that one though, sad to say. Thanks for the lists! Looking forward to reading what I have and have not yet read, re-reading what I do have, and maybe adding to this monster I call my library, haha.

Hey Merhy, thanks for these awsome suggestions! I've got a book question for you: Have you even read, or have you considered reading, the Inkheart trilogy? I know I'm probably biased by childhood nostalgia, but they are some of my favourite books of all time, maybe even the favourite. They mean so much to me. It's probably the most beautiful and magical fantasy world I know, it was the first book that ever made me genuinly feel, with all my heart, _I wish I could see this with my own eyes,_ it made my child heart _ache_ with longing and eyes wide with wonder. And it has probably my favourite book character of all time. Yes, I'm biased, but I cannot express the love I have for this series. Also, it's literally about the bottomless love of books and stories, so I think you could really enjoy it! Take care!

Hi! I love your KZfaq channel! I’ve started to read some of your recommendations and love them so far! I recommended your channel to one of my friends and he loves it! I was wondering if you have read the Chronicles of the Warlands by Elizabeth Vaughan? I’m currently on the second book and I’m liking it. I would like to hear your opinion (good or bad)! Keep doing what your doing!

Merphy, have you read "10 blind dates" by Ashley Elston? It's one of my favourite romances. Amazing family dynamics(Grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, parents and the MC's sister are all soooooo good). The main character, her cousins and one of their neighbours have an excellent friendship. It's a YA romance, so you can pretty much guess who she's going yo end up with. There aren't any serious topics like grief discussed. But the family dynamics and the friendship more than makes up for it

John Gwynne's "The Faithful and the Fallen" series should be on your fantasy TBR list for sure! Friendships and battles and characters and the world in general... it's just wow, definitely check it out :)

You LOVE Peter Pan? I knew there was a reason I love your videos. I rarely enough meet anyone who has so much as read the book, let alone adored it the way I do. It's one of those works that has grown up with me as I aged, and that I never regret revisiting.

I know you may not have a lot of time, but when you get a chance, please read "A Discovery of Witches". Its a bit long, and I dont know how you feel about trilogies, but I enjoyed it immensely. It's better for someone more into History and Alchemy as I have heard people it isn't "plot driven". Thanks!
