On my old Dodge I used Well nuts to get rid of SM screws. The hole is a little larger , but uses small bolts instead of the screws . They’re a threaded brass fitting surrounded on rubber. When you tighten, they expand. Water tight too.

I know this video is pretty old. But you need to check out the boost auto cab lights. They would work perfectly with your AlphaRex headlights

Is there a reason you didnt just tap into the fuse box inside the truck?

An easier way would be to use a compass or framing square as a scribe.

Did the same install on my 99 250 but wired up to the dash switch instead of running a wire all the way to the headlight, good install though 💪🏻

What bulbs did you use for your switchback blinkers/running lights
@JUSTINHAWKSMITH4 жыл бұрын
Raptor 700 Williams I run all JDM a star bulbs. Great bang for buck bulbs I’ve found. Super bright, cheap , and are 3 years old and still working perfectly and bright.

to put it bluntly, ALL aftermarket cab lights/lenses are made incorrectly. the only hassle free option is to get the measurements for drilling the holes from a video like this, and then buy factory cab lights off of ebay/a junk yard. factory cab light housings and lenses have a slight curve in them to conform to the roof and sit flush on the roof, where all aftermarket lenses and housings are flat so they do not sit properly. to combat this, companies like Recon give you thicker gaskets so the whole housing sits higher to hopefully keep you from noticing the fitment issue. this leads to all the water deflection being done by the sub-par chinese gasket, where originally the housing sitting flush to the roof deflected most of the water and the thinner gasket just prevented any water that seeped under the housing from leaking into the cab.

Are the lights evenly spaced? It looks like the two outside ones have a wider spacing then the two closest to the center light. The only reason I ask is because I think it looks perfect.
@kevinford30834 жыл бұрын
Sorry just rewatched the video and you say the spacing.
@JUSTINHAWKSMITH4 жыл бұрын
the 2 outside ones are further then the 3 in the middle... just like OEM...

Why did you run the power back out? Wouldn't it be better to just splice it to the light switch on the dash?
@JUSTINHAWKSMITH2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that would probably work too honestly just hate pulling my dash bezel

@JUSTINHAWKSMITH2 жыл бұрын
Honestly not the best. They all leak. Leds are still working some how tho. Not sure of a better brand. But these aren’t good. Lol. Hard to complain when they all still work tho

@@JUSTINHAWKSMITH dang. Maybe oem is the way to go. Such a good look with them on these trucks.

Isn't the recon set up suppose to be plug and play? The wiring to the factory connection under the passenger kick panel??

Hey Justin I know this is an older video. I was reading through the comments section and seeing that you aren’t really happy because you have an issue with leaks. Were you able to fix the problem? 🤔
@JUSTINHAWKSMITH Жыл бұрын
They don’t leak inside the cab , just the light itself gets moisture in them. They’re all still working just fine and still continue to leak.
@Doom6.0 Жыл бұрын
@@JUSTINHAWKSMITH Thanks for the response. I want a set of these for my Excursion. Would you recommend a different brand that you don’t think would have that moisture issue?
@ryanlee3636 Жыл бұрын
Maaan I remember when I did mine on my old duramax I installed them at night and then went to work the next day and I heard a loud whistle noise like air getting in somewhere and I was like damn I didn’t install them right I got a leak but turns out my passenger window was cracked open a bit😂😂😂

@@JUSTINHAWKSMITH My Dad was an Auto and Body Mechanic for years and I myself went through Paint School in the Military and can tell you that this is actually false. There's no component in Silicone (Rubber) that causes metal to corrode. Body mechs been using Silicone since (at least the late 69's/early 70s when my dad started out as a Body Mech) and was developed to use on Electrical motors and Generators. If it had corrosive properties, it wouldn't be used in many of the applications it was designed for and is currently being used on/in. You're good to go. Anyone who says that is either inexperienced, or are using invalid resources, or pulled silicone off from a vehicle, saw corrosion and falsely assumed that it was caused by the silicone. In reality, some people used to use Silicone to cover up corrosion, hoping that it was prevent the rest of the metal to corrode. This was back before we had things like Flex Seal or any other form of Silicone Rubber in a spray can. What you did was perfectly fine and better than leaving it without anything. Most installations I've witnessed do not go the extra step like you did and rely on only the rubber seals that the lights come with. These fail over time, repeating the cycle of getting wet and drying over and over, which eventually leads to those seals deteriorating and eventually coming apart. Good job!!
