Waan Aelon in Majel (WAM) is an NGO in the Marshall Islands dedicated to traditional canoe building and sailing. At a same time it is a school for dropout students and a training center for sustainable boat building. WAM is fighting at the forefront of climate change and is a shining example how a small NGO can improve the livelihood of an entire country by street-work, tradition, science, education and training.
The fire is a heavy loss for the Marshall Islands and the hole world. In the past 30 years WAM has not only trained hundreds of young people in traditional arts and life-skills, WAM also documented canoe sailing, built countless outrigger canoes and is a key institution for the transitioning to low carbon shipping by combining indigenous knowledge and modern science. WAM had just rebuilt and renovated large parts of the WAM campus to host more workshops for canoe building.
It is impossible to bring back the things that were lost to the flames but we can help to keep the program running. Please support WAM
