In this video, we look at the new high frame rate SSD recording features above 60fps on the GH6 and G9ii. The GH6 requires firmware version 2.3. This allows us to use the AC10 adapter or external V Mount battery to get high frame rates like 4k 120 and FHD 300 out to an SSD drive. Probably a ludicrous question…is there a way to both power the gh6 externally with a power bank, and at the same time record externally to ssd? I was thinking that for recording, could one use an hdmi (camera end) to usbc (ssd end) cable? I understand you can use the dummy battery to power, but I thought maybe there was a way to use an hdmi cable for recording similar to how an external monitor/recorder uses that for sending recordable video, freeing up the usbc port for a battery bank. I imagine this is a hardware/software feature exclusive to monitor recorders, but just thought I’d ask if you had tried this.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 7 ай бұрын
Unfortunately there is no way to do that, at least no way I know of. You could maybe look into using a high-capacity NVMe CF Express card like this one 👉 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gtFoodl_176mn40.htmlsi=jKhD-ZKdz7xFTvoE and then that frees up the USB-C port for a power bank.

I am utilizing SmallRig’s V Mount vb50 as my battery source while using the recommended Kondor dummy battery DMW-BLK22. Any recommendations on accessing the upper frame rates? Ok, so there is some kind of limitation there due to the battery size. The only other limitation comes through the battery type but you say you are using a BLK22, so that should work fine. I was going to have a play with my Power Junkie V2 using different size NP-F batteries to see if there was a limitation there. To be honest, I was surprised it worked with a dummy battery but I am certainly not complaining. I will do some tests and see what I come up with. @@stevelitton Thank you for confirming! Videography is a secondary option for me as I’m, primarily, a photographer, but videography has grown as a request to support as a part of my services. Having the ability to harness the most out of my GH6 gives me more options to consider, but 120 fps isn’t a primary need at this time. The vb50 meets all my current needs as a photographer and videographer at this time. If I end up with a vb99, I’ll update you as to what options show. It’s weird that it wouldn’t anyway since the vb50 should be more than enough battery power to handle 120 fps at 4k.

Hello Steven, thanks for al of your video's. I have an other problem with my GH6. I am trying to get more than 50 fps (in the Netherlands) . I did the update to 2.3. I use for SSD recording the Sandisk Extreme Protable 1Tb SSD. Power supply via DC Coupler DMW BLK22 (Amazon) connected to mini jack V-mount Kyver BP-45 batt. (I tried also a BLK with D-tap) Result: no frames more than 50. I saw that you use a Samsung T7 Shield 1TB, so i ordered one. Also with this SSD, 50fps is the max i get. Than i saw this video of you and ordered the Kondor Blue BLK22 with D-tap. Resluted in max 50 fps. Then i saw your video abouth the WIMAXIT v-mount batt. and tought its maby not enough power, so i ordered this battery. I charged it to 100% capacity. Connected to the Kondor Blue and Samsung SSD: not more than 50fps. Dyn.boost is off. I get only more than 50fps record to the CFexpress card. So i have also tried an NVMe SSD. Same results. I dont want to go outside filming with a cable reel. So, what are your thoughts on this. I think i have the same hardware as you are using and someting is still not oke. Thanks

Thanks, I appreciate it and sorry to hear you are having issues. Two possible issues there, it could be that the camera is not reading the dummy battery as a DCC17 and that is limiting the shooting options. For the second, I would ask, what shooting options are you using? I am using the MOV shooting setting in this video. Unfortunately, the ProRes options are still capped at 50/60fps in the latest firmware. As far as I know, the SSD itself doesn't limit options on the camera itself, it may just not be able to keep up, depending on which one you have. Hope that helps.

@@haploguy it's more just that they haven't offered more ProRes options. It was never there before but who knows, more options may come in firmware updates 🤞
