Record breaking Storm Ciaran , locked tides , rain, extreme flooding & power cuts #stormciaran #weather #uk
Storm Ciaran has caused severe disruption with strong winds and severe flooding to the Norfolk Broads in the East of England . Described as a record breaking storm for Europe, here in Norfolk it wasn’t as bad as in the south of England was..
Still recovering from the aftermath of storm Babet , which has left locked tides to the Norfolk Broads , now on top of this storm Ciaran, brings a deluge of rain. The ground is already waterlogged and totally flooded so this new rainfall adds to the problem. Over topping results in severe flooding and roads become flooded.
We had a power cut overnight, lots of villages were affected but luckily power was soon restored.
The Met Office continue to issue Flood warnings and flood alerts. When will this all end?

We have just returned from a four night break boating. Thursday night, we mored at Ludham Bridge and in the morning, while eating breakfast, we saw an otter swim underneath!

Yup every time storms come and floods everything. Were is the council and government to help with prevention. It’s not first nor the last time and nothing is done about it.

A few holiday bungalows are flooded.. this is the highest tides we've seen since buying our bungalow in 1989.

Potter Heigham Bridge....The Pheonix Fleet, all electric boats. Robin built me a boat 5 years ago at his boatyard next to the bridge.....❤

haven't been there for ages I used to take my mum to the Big store on the other side of the bridge .. a great place in the summer too .

Yes they opened late. Not sure if they were actually affected by flooding or the risk of the flood water reaching them and closed as a precaution.

Love your videos. Suit perfectly what the Broads are all about. I've never lived close but have spent many days and weeks fishing in various parts and I suspect any negative comments can only be from people who've never been there. The amazing thing about the Broads is that the water just spreads out and then (usually) quickly recedes and everything just drifts back to normal.Fishermen are probably as aware as most of the influence and power of the tides. People don't realise how far the salt water pushes up the rivers and forces fish upstream. One year there was salt water in Norwich city centre in the Yare-not sure how far that is but its a long way from the sea!

I hope it does too. The problem is since storm Babet we’ve had a locked in tide. Each day the water level rises but doesn’t go out enough…. Then next tide arrives and so it continues….. daily.

There is so much water it will take a long time to dry out. I think the whole country now needs to review how it deals with its irrigation of ditches etc. These have been overlooked for years and we are now seeing the result of such neglect. Congratulations on all the views of your previous video. I hope as a result of this more subscribers will come your way!

No chance of me being flooded here despite the 'river' running past my house. It is actually water coming off the field which runs down the slope and continues past mine and then goes on further down the road. I do have a drain just outside my gate where some of it goes. I am very fortunate I am on higher ground. There is always a 'river' when it rains hard but nothing to ever be worried about. I appreciate you concern but all is fine. Many thanks. X@@NewnameSameme

Yes this is true in parts but what you have to remember in low lying areas like the Broads and the Levels in other parts of the country is that the ground water levels are only just below the surface. This has a consequence you can hammer steel sheeting into the ground as hard as you like but the water will rise behind it and thus you can only pump out. So you pump out flooded land into a flooded river which is not flood protection as people think it is an expensive water circulation project like your garden pond but hugely bigger. For those who wish for coasts and barrages if you wished to protect the low lying lands of the East Coast you would have to start beyond the Humber and proceed to Kent! Remember that the East Coast tips at 1/8 inch per year or 1 foot per century so any defence has to take this in account as well increasing storm surges. So we will always have some flooding it is just a matter of deciding how much and that is a subject for social debate and how much we will invest in it.

I spotted Peter Jeckell's sailing cruiser 'Moonraker', with her mast lowered ready for removal and hauling out for winter at Potter Heigham. Cleverly he has put what looks like a quant pole into the river bed alongside 'Moonraker' to stop her getting hung up on the quay heading when the level drops. Peter has been here many times before I would suggest....don't get old without getting artful Peter! 😉 Great footage Lisa.

I see the Fairmile shed is still there at ‘Woods. If you look upstream from the new Potter Bridge there was a ferry in that area a hundred years ago and there was a book written for children involving it.

Oh heck it looks bad. Worrying especially for all the little businesses. I follow the Reedham Ferry Inn and hardly a day goes by without a high tide warning and an alert that the ferry isn’t running😔

Thank you, I’m shocked at how many it’s had in just 48 hours. Poor Hemsby had 1 property demolished prior to the storm. So much flooding here now, gets worse daily due to the locked in tide. I’ve never seen anything like this here before. If you’ve a water shortage…. just say and we can send you plenty 😉

I wonder if the company that owns the hire cruisers that can't get under Ludham Bridge will be putting concrete blocks or iron bars in the bilges to lower the air draught permanently? I put a new oven on my boat and the weight made her lopsided....a couple of paving slabs from B&Q straightened her up and happily made it easier to get her under a tricky arched bridge I need to use all the time. 😂 Thanks again .. keep up the good work !
