He ran the last 100m in just under 12 secs, I timed it at around 11.9. Incredible acceleration and speed at the end of a 10k, and even more impressive given that he was running at under world record pace for most of the race.

I can't conceive how he could speed up drastically in the last lap after having ran for 24 laps at a high enough speed.

And the end he looked like he just finished running 3km on a treadmill..... Most people can barely stand after finishing 10k, That's amazing.

I have watched this race many times. I'm still amazed by this extraordinary performance. Special mention to his brother who did a good job to push him, up until the 5 000 meter mark but also at the very end.

Unbelievable.. even on a bicyble you need to ride pretty hard to keep up with 'em. Respect!

I ran 1km @ 16km/h on the treadmill today, I felt like I was going to die but still well impressed with my self. Came back home to see how fast the pros run and this guy ran 22.8km/h for 10km??? WTF. That's some amazing talent!

I ran a 400m at his pace a few days ago and I gotta tell you, I was really tired. I don't get how anyone could do that for 25 laps!

He ran 57 secs for the last lap here, but he has run 53 secs for his last laps in the 2004 Olympics 10,000m and the Beijing Olympics 5000.

THE sad news is..the guy behind bekele, his name samy he passed away 2011.he has won Beijing marathon in 2008,also other races ,but i heard, he felt from second co rider at his home, Kenya .

Is there somewhere I can go to get the entire results of an individual runner ? The IAAF website is terrible. It doesn't even give individual career results.

In high school the people being lapped won't budge but in the Olympics they respect the faster runner.

It's not a rule. Most people seem to think that it's expected, but the lapped runner is under no obligation to move out. As you said, the awesome one's usually do (if they know someone is coming).

Usually required things are in the IAAF Competition Rulebook. The only rules discussing lapped runners state that a runner must be given notification when he is about to be lapped, and that lapped athletes cannot give assistance to runners (i.e. pacing after being lapped). In the future, please don't make up random "facts" when talking to people that actually know the sport.

I took issue because you made a blanket statement that it is required. It is often not, and your statement can easily be read as implying its required in all cases. The M.O. can ask runners to move if lapped, but not sure if can sanction
