After nearly 50 years the eel record was finally broken on Monday 3rd of June at a MASSIVE 11lb 3oz. If you were to look at the top 50 eel captures, you'd see Steve Ricketts name listed many times and he is the very defintion of a dedicated specialist angler. This capture is a remarkable achievement but on top of that, the whole thing was captured on camera.

Was pike fishing Scotland around 1985 ,,,had a run on a dead bait ,hooked into it and a long fight it came to the top ,,a very very large eel ,but sadly only light hook hold and it twisted and was off ,still have nightmare, s about it 😮

Stonar Lake in Kent definitely has monster eels and all the necessary requirements for an even bigger record.

biggest eel i have ever seen i caught from loch lomond about 15 years ago . i used a raw beef burger moulded round a lead like a method feeder with a huge bunch of maggots on a hook length buried into the meat ball . this was rowed out atleast 150m into the depths of the loch and dropped before putting the rod in a bite alarm . it was down there for around 2 hours before i got a take. huge eel possibly over 14lbs . i regularly fished for conger on the west of scotland and i could not help but draw comparisons

Fantastic fish ! Like you say they could be bigger ! I read up on a 2 lads fishing in Scottish lochs getting broke of from monster eels on really strong tackle. Wonder what the biggest commercialy caught uk freshwater eel is ?
