The sensor will most likely still overheat because it still has to transfer all that data to the atomos. This is the reason many DSLMs are capped at 30m per file. The atomos doesn't magically reduce the temperature of the camera's Sensor. Save yourself the money if this is everything you'd want to get the Atomos For.

Yeah, but still you get a lot less heat inside of the camera body = cooler sensor at least a little bit

I recorded into the ninja V with the Canon R6. It over heated in 30min when recording in 4K 60fps log.

The biggest reason for overheating is the lack of air circulation, but yes you are completely correct ! But Atomos or not I use to have an ninja for my R5 still overheat 1.6 canon release that cripple hammer and I said F it ! Not like I’m going to use the R5 forever there will always be a Mark 2/3/4/5 😅

It's small rig everything, smallRig cage, SmallRig top handle, SmallRig monitor mount, and the small rig base plate with two 15mm rods at the bottom if you wanna use a follow focus wheel, also from SmallRig. And no, I don't work for small rig lol. I just know everything he's using cause I use most of them. Also if you have a SmallRig Cage, get a side handle so you can Control it better and have better stabilization

As far as I know no... I believe the Ninja can be triggered to record via HDMI (if you had some sort of external trigger), but this isn't something I've ever tried! I record by hitting the monitor!

@@AnthonyGugliotta ahh ok! I know you can trigger with the time code on the r5, but it records to both the card and ssd on the ninja. I was trying to find a way around just deleting the footage on the camera every time. Still a good combo if you ask me!!

I am looking for an external recorder for my Sony FX 30. I have read that the V won't capture 4k prores on from the FX30 because of the resolution limits. Can you pass on some wisdom?

My ninja’s V display has a warm white point. Sucks you can’t change the hue on a monitor this expensive while I can change the hue on my little $160 monitor from Viltrox 🤦🏽‍♂️

I think only gh5II sony fx3 fx30 didn t suffer overheating.. i thought with ninja v i could save my sony from overheating but sadly is not true.

Quick question though… I used an Atomos ninja V with my R6, and it still overheated (no internal recording, only external) That camera would overheat just by being on. I then sold it, and bought a Fuji X-T4. Using the Atomos Ninja V with that and recording only externally it still overheats. (Albeit less than the R6 by a long shot.) What are you doing that I’m not, that allows you to bypass overheating?

I have the xt4 w atomos ad well. Only thing you can do is record in a lighter format like prores lt…: this guy is only telling half the story the camera still needs to output the sensor data and that STILL generates heat. You can try using a dummy battery on the fuji. Set the temp on the fuji to high also.

Hey Paul.. you camera still overheating with the ninja V? I attached my Sony A1 today and same with me! overheated with just the camera ON! I recorded with Ninja v.. but does not matter.. its quite hot and the camera shutdown without internal recording. did you find a solution? Let me know! thank you!

I got the Ninja exactly for this reason but I'm having trouble getting good quality footage. My Ninja V records a video that is a little blurry - sort of edgy especially when I move. Kinda of like when the shutter speed is high. The camera records good footage. I'm thinking of returning it , would love to know if your ninja v footage quality is the same as the camera quality?

You need to set the HDMI out resolution separately from the camera recording resolution

Nope, Ninja V does not stop the a7iv from overheating. a7iv latest firmware 2.01 still overheats after less than 30 minutes just sitting there -- no in-camera recording, display off, 4K **30p** not 60p!

Did you change the internal setting? I recorded on site for 4 hours at 4k 60fps slow motion before my camera overheated.

On some top handles there's a stopper. Mine has one and it never falls even if it comes loose.

Sorry, this doesn’t work. I use the same set up for my Sony A7iv and I overheat faster with the monitor connected so most times I have to get set up and disconnect the monitor after making my adjustments if I’m going to do long form recording because with monitor ninja V I overheat anywhere from 20 to 25 minutes 4K 60 FPS 10 bit and without the monitor connect it I can get 30 to 35 minutes same settings

Hi anthony...i use a canon eos R and thinking about getting myself an external monitor. As i was going through youtube about monitors and in some videos they were talking about..'monitor improves video quality' so..i'm extremly confused..so just want to know if my canon eos R gives me better quality than it already is after using an external monitor!!🥲🥲
