How does the sound of the UCX II compare to your ADI-2 DAC? I have an ADI-2FS with my FF 800 running and want to upgrade for a small Setup for Outboard Mixing. Sound quality is what I want. I wonder how MK5 sounds with Steady Clock FS which is a very good Clock!!!

I no longer have the unit in front of me, but I do think some of the parameters were adjustable without a DAW/Computer, but some pre-setup may be necessary.

Sounds like a routing/monitoring issue. If you can, I would connect it to your computer and make sure that that input is being monitored in the main outs or headphone outs in Total mix. Unfortunately, I don't have the unit installed anymore. Have you tried RME Tech support?

@@RecordingMag ok I’ll give it another shot in stand-alone later today. I got thing working ok now outside of stand-alone mode connected to the computer. I’m almost certain it was something I was overlooking not being totally familiar with the prescribed operation of the unit altogether. Thank you much for the response. I will follow up when I get the desired result…😎👍🏾

Probably best to contact RME for tech support. I no longer have the UCX II in my possession. It was sent back after the review.

You need to boot into recovery and disable a security setting in order to enable kernel extensions for the driver to work. RME is working on a new driver to bypass this.

Steady Clock FS on its own is a huge sound upgrade

You can buy optional rack ears from RME/dealers.

I also have the RME Multi face 2 and am considering to upgrade. did you notice a difference in the sound quality?

@@danielweiss4498 I have my Multiface II at home now and it’s rock solid. The new unit is great as well. Do I notice a huge difference? I really don’t. The mic pres on the new unit aren’t bad, I’ve used them a handful of times and was very pleased with the results.

I would put them on the same playing field, with the RME being a bit more nuetral

Absolutely! I wanted to go with the UAD Apollo x4 but something didn’t feel right about it. I wasn’t cool with the fact that you need to rely on your interface DSP for plugins which makes it less portable and unusable with other interfaces unless you use ADAT, second of all if you pay for a UAD you would have to pay double the price of the actual unit let me explain. So think of it like this…the price of an Apollo x4 (the hardware) which is about $2,200 USD convert that to were you’re from.. add that with with the Thunderbolt cable you would need to buy because they don’t provide one and then add that with the absurd cost of the amount of plugins you would need to purchase to actually make music/streaming/podcasting…that will be your “official” price. Not worth it! if ask me. Also RME is consistent with its pricing despite the inflation cause by the pandemic and chip shortages, UAD Keeps increasing its price due to inflation! Get the RME UCX ii…the drivers could last you 3 to 4 decades or more, latency is “😩😙🤌🏾” magnificent, Class compliant iOS/Android and more, Jitter Immunity this in all sample rates and great for PC/MAC at all levels! Though one thing I like more on UAD is the software but that’s about it, you will get used to Total Mix its great too once you learn it. It also comes with its own compressor, EQ and all not as good as UAD but you can manage with Plugin Alliance, Waves (etc) anyway. So if it were me I would go for the RME Fireface UCX ii all day anyway! And remember Thunderbolt 3 doesn’t really make a difference in latency it’s the drivers and you computer. If you want to be a clout chaser…go with UAD, be like every KZfaqr…but if you want to be a pioneer go for the Fireface you won’t regret it buddy trust me its the cheaper interface and the better interface that will last you not only years but DECADES!!

@@tuneunleashed Thanks for sharing your opinion & for the info. I agree with you - I think UAD makes sense if you're running a professional studio, as some of my friends do. Otherwise, the Fireface UCXii looks like a good choice in the price range of cheaper UAD. I'm looking for a new interface; at the moment I'm primarily using virtual instruments, with some outboard gear & synths alongside. For my needs I've realised i need low latency performance. I've heared that the Presonus Quantum interfaces have incredible low latency performance, I wonder what the differences would be between those & UCXii
