A lot of people who know of me know that I don't care for most modern record players; but, with this one, I'm impressed that they included a magnetic cartridge and 78 rpm speed. Concerning the 78 rpm needle, I have learned something about the 78 stylus. I have an Audio Technica AT-LP60 and a very similar older Optimus turntable, and both have been modified by me for 3-speed. They both track at 3.5 grams; but, the Pfanstiehl 78 rpm stylus "bottoms out" at that pressure. I then ordered the stylus from LP Gear and the cantilever does not "bottom out" on that stylus. So, if any of your readers plan on getting the 78 stylus for the Audio Technica cartridge, I'd advise against the Pfanstiehl stylus.

Ya! I’m surprised to hear you say that! Thanks for the good advice on the LP Gear stylus!

I had the same problem with Pfanstiehl on an ADC replacement stylus for the QLM 30 III, which is rated at 3-5 grams and it bottoms out at 2g. The cartridge is in an old changer with no adjustable tracking force, so I can't use it. 20 bucks wasted.

Hey there I have watched your videos so I know what you think of modern portables like the little suitcase players, but although this thing is a lot of plastic I have to say it’s the best sounding small portable I have ever heard. I generally listen to my records on a proper component system with either a Thorens TD 240-2 with an Ortofon OM20 or Thorens TD 103 A with an Ortofon 2M Blue so I know what solid mid-fi sounds like (hi-fi is a level higher IMHO) so I know what a good turntable sounds like. Even on battery power this thing has excellent volume and a rich sound. It’s probably overpriced a bit, but has a lot of nice features.

Just want to say, GREAT video and unboxing of this player. I had been searching for technical specs of stuff like tracking force and came across your video. Have been looking for a portable record player to bring when traveling and visiting record shops, something to play whatever I bought, on the road but not completely destroy my newly acquired records! I like the idea of the AT-3600al (believe it’s a 0.6 conical which I agree with you will not cause undue record wear, even at 4 grams) and the sound is amazing. I’ve got several turntables for my home stereo and looks like this will be my next purchase! Thanks again for an objective and informative video!

Ok, I have to say something here. Not only is your enthusiasm genuine and infectious, and Aunt Barbara is a bit addicted to this channel, and it doesn't hurt that you're dorbs-for-days, but it's so damn refreshing that you don't bash everything! You see (and hear) the good in these things. Most reviewers that don't have a $2000 piece of equipment in front of them would just put it down. I think these "critics" do that to make themselves sound important and like "experts". You review machines that are affordable, sound perfectly nice and fun to look at! And what's wrong with that? May I also add that starting from your unboxing, to showing the player and then demonstrating it, it's almost like being there with you. That is a gift, trust me many don't have that. If you're not, you would make an excellent teacher and the class would love you and want to learn. Take it from an olde lady from The Long Island, she's been around a looooong time!

I purchased one of these to have a decent little truly portable player. I usually play my records on much higher end equipment, but I’m actually impressed by this little record player after doing some listening after receiving it today. The sound quality is very good. Of course you won’t get a lot of bass out of a small all in one, but it’s rich sounding. No tinny sound like most suitcase players. The rechargeable battery makes it truly portable and Bluetooth in and out means you can play your music through a much higher end speaker if you want. It is a bit “plastic-ey” but I it is lightweight to be easy to carry. The tonearm is something I’ve never seen before. Cheap for sure, but has a magnetic cartridge and actually sounds good. Looking closely at it, it appears to have a fixed counterweight in the back of the square area of the arm and not a spring. Of course no anti-skate, but for the hobby listener I doubt this will do any damage to the records. Overall a neat little player.

This does seem to be a decent portable, which is refreshing. Silly question- can you run it on mains power? Would be good to run it through your main system as a test. Finally, is your test record a quad disc by any chance? Hope it is not too cold over there at present.

So I just picked one of these up at Target today. I want to play with it, but it won't stay powered on while plugged in. The little voice says "battery low", as it should since I haven't charged it. But plugged in (charging light blinking), shouldn't I be able to use it on wall power and not the internal battery? It powers on, plays for about three seconds, then shuts down. Thanks for any tech support here.

I joined Victrola's vinyl subscription service and got a Revolution GO for free. I have two suitcase portables that I don't care for and don't use, but I am really impressed with the Revolution GO. Is it better than my component system? no, but for what it is, it is impressive. I won't be taking vinyl to the beach because sun, sand, and vinyl are not a good mix, unless you enjoy watching your records warp while you play them, but would use the bluetooth streaming to play music from my phone or tablet.

Great review on this neat portable record player. One comment on speed... If it's slightly fast without a record it'll probably be closer to the correct speed once you account for stylus drag. The only negative at all that I can see is the non-replaceable battery. Batteries do get old and wear out after so many charge cycles. In 5 years the player might still work well, but the battery could get old and weak.

I purchase one of these, a few people on difference forums were getting them dead on arrival, and when plugged in would stay on for about 15 seconds then go off. The red light would flash. The problem lies with the battery gone into sleep mode because the battery was not charged in the factory. I had to take mine out and put it on a charger with boost for 10 minutes before putting it back in the unit, the original charger then started to charge, the red light stayed on and the unit did not turn off after 15 seconds and fully charged in 4 hours with light going out. Apparently Lithium batteries do this if the battery is drained. The compartment on the bottom used for charger, I drilled a hole in the bottom as the battery connector is near there and put the battery in the compartment instead. The battery is 7.2 volts 2500mAh and are plenty of 3rd party batteries are available on the usual markets...just in case any one was wondering.

When I was a teenager I saw a Panasonic stereo system that was indeed battery operated. It had MW/FM radio and took 6 d batteries. It was an automatic turntable with the speakers that detached from the top of the player. They were small 2-way systems that sounded really nice. That was in the early 1970s and you could well and truly take your records to the outdoors. This is great sounding also but removable 18650 cells in the least would be a good idea. A better idea would be that it can take a regular D or C cell. This unit would probably be more worthwhile if it had a tuner in it, even an FM only tuner would make it more attractive, as the price is rather steep for just a record player.

Looks good to me! Although for my needs the pitch control is essential because I have several 80RPM discs, haha. Still, what a good little unit this is! And it seems Victrola really wanted to make something different, and the result seems to deliver. However, I might add that this mechanism is pretty common on magnetic models from Victrola; notably, the Eastwood (which I think you also reviewed) has that very same mechanism.

I know I am a year late to this party, but I am actually impressed with that. Generally, I don't particularly care about those cheap mechanism they seem to use on a lot of those low-end record players, but it seems Victrola did many things to make this one actually pretty good, including adding the very respectable AT 3600L MM cartridge, and having a good sounding speaker. From what I can tell from this video, I think the unit's own speakers actually sounded better than that little BT speaker that was shown. At the original retailed $200 these units were going for, I hope that it would actually be pretty decent. I am almost tempted to get one myself, and as of this writing (12/3/2022), they are available on Amazon for about $150. This would be an excellent player to take to flea markets, thrift shops, or record fairs to use to try records on. Of course, it would also be great for the usual scenarios that a portable record player would be great to use, such as on a picnic, take while camping, etc. I am quite familiar with that Denver airport, being a professional skier and having flown to Denver many times to head up into the mountains to the ski areas. In fact that last winter (when this video was made), I was there and was skiing at Loveland.

Hi there, I just happen to be looking for a nice turntable that enables me to set it up whenever I need it and put it away when I am done playing records. However, it should be something with a nice sound (preferably when connected via bluetooth to my stereo system). This one seems to fit in quite nicely with my idea and as I am blind, I really love the fact that it gives spoken feedback and that it doesn't use touch controls. However, I am a bit concerned about the cheap turntable mechanism as it has a plastic platter and is plastic overall. I'm also wondering what the sound quality is like when connected to a bluetooth receiver; is it, for example, comparable to let's say an Audio-Technica AT-LP60 (it may be as they both share the same cartridge, but I don't know about the phono stage???). Given the application in which I'd like to use it, I am not so concerned about the internal speakers. Can you give me some advice about my concerns and questions? Thank you very much in advance!

@@Recordology Thank you very much for your reply. So, I shouldn't be concerned about the mechanism then? Indeed, I couldn't hear any wow and flutter in your review video, but as it has a plastic platter: won't it develop wow and flutter over time as the motor and platter bearing age? And well ok, the sound quality maybe surprisingly well, but is it comparable to the sound of an AT-LP60 when connected to a bluetooth receiver in a good stereo system? Sorry about hanging on to this question, but that is what I really want to do.

@@Recordology Hi Record-ology (and all others who may read this), right ... ok, eversince I saw your video on the Revolution Go, I kept on thinking about it and comparing it to some alternatives I may consider. They all are small, portable, battery powerd, able to send bluetooth, having great sound ... But, none of them have a hydraulic arm lift and all of a sudden, I was like: "So, it'll be the Revolution Go then as it does have an arm lift" (a feature I like very much because of my shaky hands). So I ordered it and today, right when I came home from work, there was this Amazon guy right when I wanted to open my front door who gave me the package (coincidence???). So, I first had dinner and after that, I unpacked it and ... oh nooooo, it was dead, would not turn on at all. Until I plugged it in, seems like the battery was completely flat. While charging, I played some records through the internal speakers which sounded ok, but not mind-blowing. The "vinyl stream" mode did not seem to work (player kept on turning itself off whenever I switched to "vinyl stream"), but once the battery was charged a bit, it worked and I was able to connect to my stereo system's bluetooth receiver. Playing records through my stereo system sounds AMAZING!!!!!!!! I could clearly hear the typical vinyl vipe even through the bluetooth connection (not only the crackles and pops, also those typical vinyl high-ends). Conclusion after this first impression: this is a great little player when connected to my stereo system and that was exactly what I wanted!!! I surely hope it will last me a long time!!!!!! Anyway, thank you for your great video, it helped a great deal and I like your enthousiasm and still honest way of reviewing things. Keep up that good work!!! Kind regards Geert

It's so weird seeing this chinese mechanism equipped with a magnetic stylus instead of a traditional red ruby one. I wonder what have they modified in the mechanism to accommodate this change.

I purchased one of these and from what I can see they actually built a square solid counter weight into the back end of the tonearm. The tonearm mounting is a bit loose and I am sure there is no anti-skate, but I have to say it tracks pretty good. Not a lot of inner groove distortion on it.

I just called Victrola about the revolution go to find out if the battery is replaceable and they said yes and I asked them for the part number and several people do bend the battery ( 7.2 v 2500 mah 18wh LI-ION replacement) I'm going to be selling used records out in the street and maybe using it daily 6 to 8 hours. My question is how long does the charge last and how difficult is it to change the battery? is this something you would take a look at for me before I make the purchase? Thank you very much I will use your website when I do buy it :) PS I also wanted to recommend the KAB EV-1 Record Cleaner The EV1 is the only low priced vacuum record cleaner on the market today for cost conscious collectors and audiophiles worldwide. It requires no power, and you provide the suction via any home style vacuum with hose attachment

I put my battery into the bottom compartment. Easy enough to access, there are 4 more screws under the rubber feet, open it up slowly, and clam shell it as there is wires attached. I found the battery unscrewed it and disconnected it. Drilled a hole into the compartment on the bottom where the charger goes, clipped the wires with connector off the battery allowing enough to reconnect the battery . put the connector back in the socket, threaded the wires in the drilled hole, screwed the unit together and reattached the battery to the wires with tape or connectors and stick a bit of foam in the compartment to stop the battery wobbling around.

Hey Recordology, I think Victrola has a winner because of the better built in speaker's. I would add that a semi automatic return would have been a nice feature, I hope Victrola adds this feature for future model's. Thanks for posting another great video .

Retrolife Record Player Vintage Turntable for Vinyl Record with Speaker - You may be interested in this portable record player too.....

This reminds me of a video I once saw... where someone demonstrated the sound quality of a turntable--with a BSR idler-wheel mechanism--when fitted with the factory ceramic arrangement versus a mag-cart tone arm setup. Needless to say, the mag-cart had it FULLY all-over the ceramic... and this model was just as impressive, making this a perfect in-between for those whom want to get into vinyl, but can't decide between portability or sound quality. But, both models being built with BSR mechanisms, the argument had with either is in terms of total quality versus cost. This makes the price the only real problem--which, even for a modern portable, is a lot--forcing heavy consideration before deciding to go with it... or, sadly, just settle for less of one over the other in an argument of total value versus convenience. I'd have to go with the Sony PS-F9 as the best ever portable record player. I'm not a fan of that super-cheap mechanism seen in so many Crosley and Victrola players, I know you are.

Looks like the same cheap Chinese movement in almost all of the Crosleys, Victrolas, and others. If you can get your hands on a linear-tracking Sony Flamingo, don’t hesitate! Peace.

The AT3600L has a recommended tracking force range of 2.5-3.5 grams. This one is tracking at .5 gram over max. Not good. That UCPM (universal Chinese plastic mechanism) just isn't very good. Consider that mainstream brands like Zenith and others in the early 1960's were already introducing players with 2 gram tracking, not to mention the better Garrard tt's used in many players that could track even lower. No, it's not the only indicator of quality, but clearly this tracks heavy because it has to overcome the arm's high friction. There's no precise way to maintain tracking force using just a spring, and there's no anti skate. Magnetic cart. not withstanding, $200 is a lot for this level of quality, IMO

I bought one just to have a little portable around. I actually own a couple very nice Thorens turntables. This tonearm doesn't appear to use a spring, but there is actually a solid weight built into the back of it. I also believe the cartridge is a 3600LA if that makes any difference. I'm sure it tracks a bit heavy because of the compromises like no anti-skate and cheap tonearm bearings. With that said, it actually tracks pretty good and has very little inner groove distortion for what it is. I wouldn't play my collectible records on it, but for a portable to spin the everyday record it's actually a pretty decent record player.

Pointless w/o a replaceable battery especially an only 500ma one for $200 even if it sounds good it is an overpriced disposable...so you are literally buying garbage... Such a shame.

enoch was interesting, so many of those command records had such amazing covers, and the sound was great, and iirc enoch popularized the gatefold so he'd have enough room to list tons of technical information. all that said, the music itself is almost all very, very, very boring

This seems like a very versatile & decent quality portable player. A good one to take to record shows or shops to test out records thanks to its far better speaker. In the olden days there were wind-up players imported from Japan used for this purpose, but this is a big step up from those thanks to the rechargeable battery. Let us know how well that battery holds up, how long a charge holds & whether with recharging over time it has memory effects or how fast the battery needs replacing (I sure hope that's a doable swap when it's necessary). Glad someone took redesigning portable players seriously, that was a necessary niche that needed filling.

OMG I just won one one of these in an online auction (~$130 with shipping & tax), this looks like it's going to be a LOT of fun to play around with. For the 2.0 version I would like to see a slightly more substantial lid & a replaceable rechargeable battery, but the rest of it looks FANTASTIC in this review. It has a lot of things going for it that portable owners have been asking for (or didn't even know they wanted). Will let you know when it gets here & check back in with my comments.
