Hi. I own one Lenco L 78 record player. For the past few months, I was loosing the speed of this turntable, and hence loosing my interest in playing my LP's. But when I came across this video, and dared to experiment, I am elated to say, that I have been able to adjust the speed as per my ears. I did not need any other thing, as I remembered well the music, as it sounded before this anomaly. I do not have words to thank you dear. Now my records are sounding perfectly well. Thanks a Ton.

I had an older AT with usb that had speed issues. I upgraded the belt, and it was running fast. This is where my tip (or just luck) comes in: I didn't want to set it up between two boxes (lazy) so I used an eyeglasses screwdriver, slipped through the foam, and lightly turned until I felt the screwdriver line up. I gently turned left until I felt a tiny pushback. I did the same for both speeds, and they came out perfect with the strobe! While I was in the process of upgrading, I finally saved enough for the ATLP3. When I set it up I purposely did the same thing with the speed ports before even testing. Perfect with the strobe! I just wanted to share this for those with limited time and space that this may be a viable option. Again, thanks for another great video!

Put a record on the platter and the strobe on top. The vinyl will put weight that can slow the speed down a little.

my method for speed adjustment is put strobe disc on record player then put a clear record on top of that. adjust speed while it's playing till it's perfect this method accounts for drag. it may not be the best method but works for me. if there's a better way let me know.

The one you adjusted is similar to my JVC AL-A158. The speed adjuster is beneath the turntable.

this is another good vid we all should learn this since the manufacturer can't seem to do this themselves !!!!! I have 5 turntables that are idler drive now they all were running fast but I learned from the tufrntable guy on utube that you can sand the spindle if you go too far you can use clear nail polish as the motor spins you add a layer let it dry then test it ,I went too far on two of my five turntables I used this technique and it works !!!! so now I have 5 tt's running spot on on all speeds my ATlp - 120 is quartz so it is fine I recently bought the1 by one tt with built in speakers you reviewed on your show a few weeks ago it was running fast so I opened the bottom up the only screw driver i had that was long enough was shorting out the motor so what i did was first turn the adjustment while unit was unplugged then i tried it again with my hudson hi fi strobescopic disc that I also got cause of your show and kept on plugging and unplugging the TT till speed was set all in all it took 3 tries per speed i noticed at least for me leaving platter mat on or off made no difference on speed it stayed on speed with or without plattermat and disc on or off especially with my 5 TT's that are my stacking units they stay on speed with 6 records and strobe does not show a change in speed perhaps since the platters on my idler drive units are heavy it keeps it at a even speed when spinning but watching this vid is a must !!!!! JRo also I wanted to add that the 1 by one TT sounds pretty good ,I am impressed how full it sounds yes it is a plasticy build and balancing tone arm was a pain I found that oiling the pivoting points in gimble helped alot ,I used a syringe like a regular needle to get to the pivoting part and added oli directly without using too much oil or making a mess I was able to balance the tone arm perfectly I tried it several times it stayed balanced just a tip

I adjusted the speed with the power off: turned the screw 90 degrees, then measured it using a smartphone app. That was too slow so turned it back 45 degrees. The speed was right, however the record plays slow compared to the same tracks on KZfaq or the streaming version. I will have to adjust it by ear. I even tried changing speed in Audacity but that seems to introduce distortion.

My Technics SL-QL15 linear tracking/direct-drive table is quartz-locked, so the speed is dead-on. I've checked, even 40-years later (the unit is something like 1983-vintage), and it is still dead-on.

I just had a brainwave for record audiophiles. If a record was made that played a constant note then an electronic guitar tuner would indicate accurate rotation speed when the note indicated as true. (Yeah i know, over compliated)

It is still possible to adjust the speed of an AC synchronous motor driven turntable. It involves using a variable size pulley on the motor.

Hi Record-ology. Why does this issue occurr? I changed my drive belt but it didn't help. Is it the motor slowing down? The 'good' news for me is that my DJ style Soundlab DLP1R (belt drive) has the adjusting holes on top of the unit. And more good news is that it has dots on the edge of the platter to tell me when the speed is correct. At the moment I have to push the pitch slider to +2 in order to get the platter to the right speed...

Hello, i have a toshiba sm2850, who currently plays the records half step down, with speed of arround 32,3 rpm, wich is a bit slower. the motor is not connected to any wires, and it seems to work by electromagnetic field force, so it does not have any speed adjustment screws. The circle where the belt goes measures 30.5 cm diameter , what belt size should i get? Is there any way to adjust the speed?

Maybe some contact cleaner sprayed in the potentiometer. They normally have a little gap where you can see the contacts inside (normally where the pcb board goes into the potentiometer) Spray a little contact cleaner in there and then move the speed adjustment wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right several times. You're more than likely going to have to access the inside of the turntable to access the potentiometer.

A helpful hint is to wrap your screwdriver in electrical tape to stop it from shorting the motor out. They also make plastic screwdrivers especially for the job. Take care...

Use an oil that is specifically formulated for electric motors. Zoom Spout oil is excellent for electric motor lubrication. I found some at Lowes a few years ago. 3 in One also makes an oil just for electric motors. Please, no WD-40.

I have a 1978 Pioneer PL-540 quartz lock that somtimes slows down and have a very low buzzing sound that goes away when I touch the tone arm. The speed problem goes away when I restart it. I've had it twice to a pro service guy that works on turntables but it's still doing it. I might add when being serviced I had new rca cables installed and ground wire. Any tips? 😔
