My dad got me interested in real country music like Webb Pierce , Hank Sr. And Ray Price. I learned about Led Zeppelin , Jethro Tull and others from my brother. My mothers favorite was Perry Como. I definitely grew up with a variety. Thanks for sharing Glen.

Love the stories Glen. Stardust is perfect, one of my Dad's favorites too. I Need You is a top ten Beatles track for me. Good luck!

Your mom had the same taste in music as mine. Show tunes, crooners, etc. She was always playing records when we were kids. She also liked a lot of 60s pop music, like Petula Clark, The Vouges, Mamas and Papas, Gary Lewis and the Playboys. She also grew fond of the Beatles. I tend to forget that one of the reasons the Beatles were so big was that 60s television programs were limited, and the music/variety shows always had those lounge singer/crooners of the time doing "hip/swingin" versions of Beatles tunes. My mom was particulary fond of Paul McCartney - even during his solo career. My mom was the Johnny Mathis fan. Dad was 60s country/western. Most music was played during the day when dad was at work. We lost them both to covid, but they live on through those memories.

Yeah, we had a wide selection of musicals show tunes when I grew up. Still can't stand most of them, except 'Sweet Charity,' and 'West Side Story,' but they do enormously well in SF theaters, who do musicals for profit and serious plays for prestige. My dad also had a massive collection of bakerlite 78s covering a large classical music repertoire. Apart from scaring the cat (and oh no no, not me) when the next record dropped down the stacker spindle at 7 on the Richter scale, they were magic, even if it was a bit like listening to music through the sound of candy wrappers. And then came The Searchers and The Beatles! The Searchers are still touring.

lol..Yeah, The Beatles were quitters…Listening through a candy wrapper, kinda like listening to music on your phone in present times..

Your mom had great taste. It's a shame she didn't pass all of it on. Great stories and I love that John Prine album. Those first two R.E.O. albums were indeed good and not indicative of their later material. It's a wonderful Marc Cohn album as well. Good luck in the contest.
