Fun exercise! I had so many things to say but I’ll abbreviate to I agreed about 70%, agreed to disagree about 20%, and had no opinion for the remaining 10%. The thing about The Who Sell Out album for me is that it’s half-baked. One side is great songs with goofy jingles and the other side is just great songs. Now, I’d probably prefer an album of just all the great songs, but since they went the commercial jingle route I feel side two feels like something’s missing. Like, that’s it for the commercials? Oh. What, you lost your confidence? It’s like watching a standup comic who spends the second half of his performance telling you meaningful human interest stories with no punchlines. But if the album had just been the songs only from the beginning, it would be my favourite Who album of the sixties. More I listen to mostly for the two heavy tracks. The Nile Song is such a sonically mean bastard!

Hi Glen, I´m a great fan of your channel and you as a person! Always happy when I see there´s something new from you. But although I saw other viewers receptions on your divorce joke I must tell you that this was for me the worst joke I heard in years!! I, stupid as I am, believed you and felt very sad for you. I was even looking for some encouraging words to send you to ease your pain! What a depressing joke that was! Would have been cool if you'd kept the Woodstock flyer. That looks like a nice CD collection of the festival, but I have to say that that whole thing passed me by, both chronologically and musically. Whenever I hear the words "Woodstock Festival," I think of rain, mud and overflowing toilets. I knew the Beach Boys rant was going to be hilarious. I was going to say, "Larry could have given you _________ [someone I know you don't like] to listen to." but he might actually do that.

It is ridiculous to call The Beach Boys the American Beatles - everyone knows the Beatles were the British Beach Boys 👍🏽 Keith Moon was a Beach Boys fan. 😊 I love both bands but fortunately I just missed the 60s (Jan 1970) so I didn’t experience both bands in ‘the day’.

The beach boys aren't equal to the beatles. But they had a run of inspiring each other for a few years. It's ok if you don't like the beach boys. You're allowed 😂

I don't have anything against either. The Spice Girls were an all-girl band promoting girl power; The Beach Boys were an all-boy band promoting surfing. They were both very successful, except that The Spice Girls were seen for what they were, whereas The Beach Boys got absurdly overhyped. I see that Victoria Spice is now in a feud with Meghan Markle - or, more likely, the other way around - which gives The Spice Girls more cultural relevance nowadays than The Beach Boys. Harry snubbed Mr. David Spice at the Invicta Games, and Meghan accuses Mrs. Spice of leaking stories about her. Still, I have been re-thinking the whole equivalency matter in the light of Larry's thoughts. Maybe Sparks are the American equivalent of Led Zeppelin, not Aerosmith or Van Halen. What do you think?There must be some common ground around here somewhere. And why is the letter T out so early this morning? I had my day planned: I was going to read and discuss the latest news with my adorable wife over cups of tea and coffee; paint a picture of Jerry as a koala bear climbing a cannabis bush-tree thing; have some breakfast; and only then lay down as many songs as I remember beginning with the letter T, in defiance of all known Glen Kellaway / Rich Strickler Alphabet Game rules. And I haven't even got to the news yet, and up pops the letter T. I might sulk and only suggest ten of them rather than the hundred I was planning (just kidding).

As for the Beach Boys being the “American Beatles” - I think the comparison is unfair to the Beach Boys, who do have their merits. A friend once told me that to even approach being “the American Beatles” you would need to combine the Beach Boys, Dylan, and the Byrds - and I still think that is falling a bit short.

I love the “divorce” stuff. As an old OH (original hippie) I can remember the classic “feuds” of Jack Benny/Fred Allen and W.C. Fields/Edgar Bergen, and this is redolent of that. Good stuff, both of you.

I agree, that Woodstock 10 CD set is nice. Not too much and not too little. The Byrds should have been the "American Beatles". But, they didn't go on long enough. The Beach Boys were highly influential, from a production aspect. The Beatles definitely borrowed from The Beach Boys' harmonies.

I always thought The Beatles harmonies were more influenced by the Everly Brothers..only song they imitated The Beach Boys on was Back in the USSR

@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement There's lots of 1966 - 1967 Beatles songs that were inspired by The Beach Boys' harmonies. Paul McCartney was especially inspired by Brian Wilson and his production technique. "Here, There And Everywhere". "Paperback Writer", "With A Little Help From My Friends", "Getting Better" and "She's Leaving Home" are clearly inspired by The Beach Boys. And Paul's bass playing.

Hey Glen! I knew you were joking from the beginning of the divorce video because you kind of smirked through it and it's funny how it's about Larry. In his response video I made joking comments and even mentioned that Billy Strings is probably a Beach Boys fan. I don't know that as fact. It was a joke. He definitely hasn't covered any Beach Boys songs in his sets that I am aware of. I enjoy Larry's videos and I enjoy your videos. You guys have very different approaches and I'm glad you are friends. But you don't have to like every single thing he likes and visa versa. I missed the Woodstock 50th anniversary CD sets. I just downloaded the audio last week. The extra material is superb! Maybe I'll spring for the actual CDs at some point if they are still available. And I agree with you that the Beach Boys are NOT the American version of the Beatles. I wasn't going to comment on that when it was mentioned in a video of Larry's because I figure people will believe what they want. The Byrds were hailed as the American Beatles which is also a bunch of bread crumbs. There is something wrong with even trying to do that type of comparison. Leave it alone. However, The Doors are the American Rolling Stones. So is Aerosmith. Just kidding. I don't play that game either. It's stupid. Maybe it's entertaining but not something to start a musical conspiracy about. Ah, best to leave it alone, right?

I have that Woodstock 38 CD box set when it was 1st released in 2019. So far, I have listened to the whole thing 5 times in order in 4 listening sessions each. I have listened to all 37 discs on their own about 6 or 7 times each. Very good to near excellent. I was 13 years old at the time of the original 1969 festival.

You got me good on the "Divorce" video, this video helped to provide context and rewatching the other, I didn't get the joke until you pointed it out. This time of year I always revisit Woodstock with my vinyl I have and the Blu Ray set. This usually gets me back into my phase of listening to The Band which goes from now until (American) Thanksgiving where I listen to and watch The Last Waltz. I do agree The Beach Boys aren't The Beatles equal, I will say Pet Sounds is there, but knowing The Beach Boys history I never felt they were equals. Where I disagree, I feel there are several artists who are in that ultimate zenith of music with The Beatles. I look at that level and the artists I have there, there is a universal appeal and huge impact that artist had on music that they command that respect.

Sometimes I think I'm the only video creator in the Vinyl Community who sees The Beach Boys for what they are. Thank you! Thank you! Have you heard the Beach Boys "Love You" album? It's full of ped__hilic lyrics, but of course, Brian Wilson gets a pass on all of it because he's a "genius" and a "manchild". I wish more people understood that the whole "Brian Wilson is a genius" thing was merely a publicity statement created by Derek Taylor, the Beatles' 1964 publicist. (So they have him in common, too.) Also, they were both on Capitol in the U.S. Again, Thank You!!

I'm pretty sure Ween was the final straw. He's probably instigating the breakup to sue you for half your music collection. Actually, now that I think of it, you can probably quell the Lou Reed and Beach Boys obsession by buying him a copy of The Surfsiders "Sing the Beach Boy's Songbook" for revenge. It's shitty covers of Beach Boys songs with Reed singing background and lead vocals. His version of Little Douce Coupe seems to repeat forever. And how can you mess up the guitar intro to Fun, Fun, Fun as badly as they do?
