The spray adhesive I used here is 3M High Strength 90. Or you can use Super 77.
@717235 жыл бұрын
Use super 77, but not the low VOC variety (dries too fast). 77 usually runs cheaper too.

Some things don’t change. Cool video! I worked for a pool table shop in LV called A1 Billiards about 20 years ago. We used High strength 90 and Super 77 for bar tables . We did most of the bars in Vegas. I enjoyed the work. What I don’t miss is going up stairs with 9’ gold crowns , 1”+ backed slate. 🤦🏻♂️... hard on the back. Now I move heavy glass . I guess it’s just what some of us do . 🤷🏻♂️

TheTradesmen: Boy I hear you, doing a 1 Pc 7 ft today, glue job, gimme a staple job any day of the week..... the worse we did was a 5x10 ft, 5 pc. 2” thick slate w/ backer down from a loft, spiral staircase. The table from what I heard was brought in before the stairs and knee wall when up. They used one of those hi- lol loaders.

You glued the edge of the pocket?
@trailprice4 жыл бұрын
Michael Fahie yes. The edge is glued all around including the pocket. Be careful no to get any glue on top of the table near the pocket.

I was just about to recover my Snooker table & I said to myself "what has youtube got to offer". A couple of useless videos later I stumbled on to yours. You saved me hours of unnecessary work. Thanks a million, you're the best.

We followed your instructions exactly. Our 1960s one piece slate, 6 foot Valley bar box pool table came out amazing! It only took two of us about 1-1/2 hours start to finish including tearing off the old felt and scraping off the old glue.

Excellent video! Thanks this was very helpful as I am about to replace the felt on my pool table. 👍

Very good job explaining this procedure. This cloth will be tight and perform well. The glue layer on the top of the slate is neccessary to properly hold the cloth in place and be as tight as possible. Once the rails are bolted down, the thin glue layer does not affect the billiard ball in any way. Good Job.

Great vid from everything on youtube, we choose your vid . We did the job today, the 22 minutes does not represent the real time it took us from 9am to 3pm. Not even done the rails. But the slate looks amazing was a 30 yo cloth burgundy we replaced with a simonis 860hr english green. United billard inc table. Cheers!

Most excellent Video dude. I just pulled my slate up and its every bit of 400lbs. Spraying on the table top "EDGE" was perfect. And when the next guy goes to refelt it, he can just scrape off any little bit of glue. Adding the tape was under each pocket, really helps a Lot!! May I add, spraying the inside rails with a light coat rubber helps quiet the balls rolling down the rails to the landing station in front. Since that Spray Glue is very toxic to the lungs, I'll be wearing a quality mask. I don't want gluey lungs and I don't want the "Vid" either. Now.....Getting the Rubber off the rails will be another thing. Last guy must have used Monkey Snot to glue them down!!! Thanks again!

was that 30 0z felt or your razor is dull -- i agree with folding it over and putting a little glue the bottom - then the fold and slate actually help keep the felt in place - the rails don't have much felt to hold on top -- ( may pucker up over some time) -- i like how easy you do the pockets

Hi, great video. What's your opinion on using brush-on contact adhesive out of a tin, rather than the spray? Any major disadvantages? Also, what's the tape that you use under the middle pockets?
@trailprice2 жыл бұрын
The roll on adhesive would be fine and probably easier to get applied precisely as opposed to the spray on. The best tape is the heavy duty transparent reinforced fiberglass tape.

Did you get that slate up on the boards by yourself to remove felt and apply new felt? It would have been nice to see how you did that.

anotherOneMore7 I did do it myself but it was a difficult thing to do. The video was already pretty long so I cut that out. If you can get someone to help for a few minutes it would be much easier.

I’m thinking of getting a valley pool table. The entrance to my basement is not the biggest, I’m concerned if I’ll be able to get it down the stairs. Once you take the slate top off, do you know if you can disassemble the main frame without too much of a hassle
@trailprice Жыл бұрын
The valley frame is not able to be disassembled. It's all glued and solid one piece. You can only remove the slate but that only makes it lighter, not smaller.

Would I be able to do this same process with wooden slate ?
@trailprice3 жыл бұрын
I believe the adhesive would work between the cloth and wood. I don't think wood is an adequate material for a pool table bed but if that's all you've got, it's better than nothing.
@pauldutton76374 жыл бұрын
Hi is it important to put glue on edge of cloth or will it stick without it

@@GARGAMENTT In the USA, this is the table that you see in every bar and what league and most tournaments are played on so, for that reason it is a good table to practice on. You can usually pick them up used for $1000... new is $3000. If I had a choice, I would go with Diamond but it's almost twice the money.

Have covered many pool tables in my time, why not use the old bedcloth over the new one, no chance of overspray then, the cue ball is not magnetic, it's smaller than the rest of them and is directed down a different route.

Spray adhesive is extremely toxic to your lungs and you should always wear a quality mask, preferably with filters. I noticed Sweet Baby Trail lowering his face to get a good close finish. It's his lungs but I wouldn't do it that way at all as it's just plainly dangerous.
@dugy40 Жыл бұрын
I’d use gorilla tape plus cut the fingers a litttle. Lots of glue under pockets.
@kole61463 жыл бұрын
Even dropping that slate just a little can destroy the slate. Use two to four people. Don't glue where he did on the top side under the rails. Not necessary. Just making the job harder for the next guy. You will get charged for it by a professional recovery guy. Other than that you did ok by yourself.

Hello everyone, first time seeing video. First thing, never spray glue on top of slate like this. Spray underneath. You also should not set your slate on table like this. I have been restoring tables for 20 years and this video is obviously done by an amateur that has not learned the right techniques. Any questions, feel free to ask.
@raph96282 жыл бұрын
Can you please upload a video with the proper techniques? There is very little info on youtube that is useful. Thanks
@punanie056 жыл бұрын
Don’t mean to knock your method. But I’ve talked and help someone who refelts hundreds of tables. One of his biggest no no’s was that you never want glue on the playing surface side of the table. Only put glue on the under side of the slate
@trailprice6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully I explained clearly enough in the video to avoid getting any glue on the playing surface. I only put glue under the rails.
@Lefishn4 жыл бұрын
He didnt put any on playing surface he glued under rails where balls dont roll

I'm sorry but practically everything about this video is wrong. The audio is useless and if you don't recover the cushions, you haven't recovered the table. Waaaaaay too much glue.
