I would guess that battery is a bit weaker than the other ones. If it is used in series with the other batteries, it can get over-discharged and even reverse-charged. A separate voltage protection on all batteries in series is the solution but hardly implemented in electronic devices.

What I am finding is that the life of these nickel-zinc batteries are not exactly as advertised. Also, the failure rates seem to be very high. One typical phenomenon I have noticed is that when these batteries are fully charged, their voltage can get as high as 1.8Vdc. Interestingly enough, when you put a multimeter on to measure voltage, you can rapidly see the voltage bleed off, which is an indicator of a bad cell. From my perspective, these batteries are not yet ready for prime time.
