I had 3 EBL NiZN 3000 mWh AA batteries that would no longer take a charge in their own EBL charger. I put them in my 18650 smart charget and boosted them with a ~25Mah charge then put them into their normal charger and now they are charging just fine!!!! Thx for the video!!! Evadently the NiZn can discharge too low and the normal charget thinks it "bad". This top me seems to be a flaw in the designof the NiZn chargers which rather than just flagging them as bad should try a "forced" or "boost" charge and then see if they can be charged normally.

Very interesting. During charging NiZn batteries, are you talking about mA or mAh? Thanks for the answer!

I believe the short charge you are giving them is called a surface charge and that ‘fools’ the normal charger to start charging as they are now above the lower voltage that the charger won’t start charging at. I do the same but with a bench power supply. The batteries will carry on cycling but they won’t last as many cycles, have as high a capacity as a battery that wasn’t over discharged. Loads of info on the net about Surface charge.

Shaun you've got it in one and with the science, this is obviously something they should have sorted out on the PCB but perhaps they only tested it with partially full batteries, rather than those in kiddies toys, i.e. dead to the point of rotting a hole through the furniture and into the floor.

Never tried it myself but would recommend trying a different method as this seams kinda risky. You could connect a couple of good batteries and the bad one in parallel (Connect all positive poles together and all negative), but make sure that there is no connection between positive and negative of course. This should then balance the charge equally over time.

What is that BPI Charger? I recently grabbed some Ni-Zn batteries not realising they needed a charger, managed to find one by company "Poover" on e-bay but I JUST developed a dead battery, amazon gave me full refund but allowed me to keep them but I'm just seeing if I can revive the dead battery hence here. But that charger is UK plug ALL I can find are either US or EU, the one I have now is EU. I am THIS close to ordering another 4pack with charger directly from the battery company on aliexpress.

I used to do a similar trick kick starting lithiums once they drop below a certain voltage, the charger detects a too low of a voltage and presumes you put in a dead nimh cell

Yep I've don't it too but they get really hot very quickly ;-)
