Method 1: Try Your SD Card in Other Devices
You can use this method to be sure about the state of your SD card. Here, you simply insert your card into several different devices that can use SD cards such as smartphones, computers, tablets, and so on. It might turn out to be that the card is not just compatible with your device or it has issues related to your device driver.
Method 2: Check for Errors with Chkdsk Command
Pay attention to the following steps to carry out this method of fixing your corrupt SD card:
1. Connect the corrupt card to your system through a card reader
2. Select the “Start” option on your Windows taskbar and choose “Computer”
3. Go to “Devices with Removable Storage” and under it, find your SD card. Take note of your card’s assigned drive letter
4. Once again, click on “Start” and in the “Search” box, type the letters “cmd”
5. Right-click on “cmd”. Choose “Run as administrator” as your option
6. In the command window that opens afterward, fix the corrupt memory card
7. Type the letters “chkdsk”. This should be followed by your card drive letter, a colon and “/f”
8. To begin the process of “Chkdsk” checking for possible errors, press the “Enter” key on your keyboard. Next, attempt fixing the corrupt SD and following the message prompts that will eventually pop up
9. Go back and check your card drive letter to confirm if your SD card has been fixed and your files recovered.
Method 3: Assign a New Drive Letter to Your SD Card
If your SD card files are unreadable, you can assign use your system to assign a new drive letter to your card using these steps:
1. Right-click on “Start”
2. Click on “Disk Management”, the console will open
3. Right-click on the volume of the drive letter you wish to change
4. Make your choice from the list of drive letters provided
5. Select “Ok”
6. A window may appear asking you “if you actually wish to try to do this”, choose “Yes”
7. Now you can close the “Disk Management” console with a click
Method 4: Format Your SD Card
You can format your SD Card to have everything wiped from it so you can start fresh using these steps on your PC:
1. Connect your SD card to your PC using a card reader or any other adaptor
2. Click on the “Start” button. Then click on “Computer” to take you to “My Computer”
3. All your hard drives should appear in the “My Computer” window. If not, select “Computer” on the left-hand menu
4. Here, your SD card should be listed under “Devices with removable storage”. To view the menu of your SD card context, right-click on your card
5. Select “Format” to see your formatting options
6. Tick the box beside “Quick Format” for a faster process
7. Finally, select the “Start” button to run the process. Once this is done, remove your SD card from the system and put it back to your device.

Thank you so much for the help. I bought a new adapter for my microSD to find that it was corrupted. Once I did Chkdsk, it started normally functioning. Then, I used the Recoverit software to find all of the missing files and it's recovered a majority of it. I appreciate a genuine tutorial, especially in a time of desperation.

My card was working perfectly until today. Suddently I noticed several apps were missing, then when I went to check my storage it said there was no external storage inserted. I removed my card, placed it in a card reader and tried to view it on a laptop,but again it didn't register that anything was inserted. Is there anything I can do? I tried cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol and an eraser ( as suggested in several videos) but still the same result. Thanks

My sandisk ultra card just failed. It has a corrupt file on it and seems to be in read only mode and can't be changed or formatted in any way. Luckily I was able to copy my files to my desktop so at least I could save those. It just sucks that my 1 year old 32GB card failed.

I think you have to un-format it. I'm no expert but while browsing for solutions, I found that un-formating should recover the old files. Just something I found, dont take my word for it

I do not want to recover the data from my SD Card I just want to be able to use it again. My SD card seems to have data on it but it can not be accessed or erased. I went through all the steps Command Prompt, change partition leter, format. Well all I had to do is put the sd card in a usb and connect it to the computers look up music right click copy , then go hook up my phone to the computer open up files and find my phone name then right click and paste and it downloaded all my music to my phone threw the laptop lol

the first method worked for me😄 I cannot thank you enough!!! I tried running the regular check disk for errors tool but that still only left me with the reformatting option. I thought I had lost precious memories again thank you so much you def deserve a sub!!

if your pc can read it just copy the files to your pc. then reformat the card in the phone. all will be fine

I found a solution just press the sd card hard in i worked wonders for me. The only song on my sd card that is working is my sister's ariel song😂

I found your video. Something worked that I did. Thank you! Apparently there was a corrupted file on the card. It's from my husband's phone. I backed the files up to my laptop after I finally was able to read it. Formatted it. Put it back in the phone, and hopefully he'll be able to find his files. 😁

Thanks for the video! Anyway, please help me with a little problem. I tried doing chkdsk and it worked but only to be cut at 52% as if it already has been completed. Still, I can't access the files on my android, but I can see them all in my PC. I badly wanted to recover my files and am currently searching for another way before finally deciding to format it. I downloaded some music to the SD card from my hard drive I look for the files all of them were not there so I use another SD card and it basically downloaded the same amount music but a lot of the files were still missing do you think the SD card needs to be formatted

Don't delete images in the camera. That is a sure way to corrupt files. Bad cards is the best reason we need for duel card slots and writing a backup to a second card.

Chkdsk worked for me. You have no idea how happy I was too. I recorded an hours worth of 4K driving thru the Great Smokey Mountains and after moving one of the 12 files from the drive, it corrupted. I looked for hours for a fix and your suggestion fixed it in 15 seconds. Thank you!

OMG! You saved my data!!! The command prompt worked perfectly! When I typed in what you said, it showed that a bunch of things were corrupt but it fixed it all up! Everything is back to normal now! I'm gonna sub to you and watch more of you handy videos! Once again thanks!!!

@@someonespecial1234 Basically, you have to type "chkdsk (what ever your sd card letter is when inserted into computer: /f". So, if your sd card letter is"y", you would type "chkdsk y: /f". Hope this helps.

All well and fine if Windows knows you plugged something into PC, though it might not know what. Suggestion to plug into another device is fine, but the answer we all want, is what to when doing so does not work, and to that answer you offer no solution. Useless video. You talk about the obvious that can be found on the web.
