I live in NYC & went down there to see the plane hitched in the water. Something very sad about seeing a passenger jet languishing under ice water. So happy it found its way to a museum. A very important part of American history.

I love seeing time lapse videos of humans moving massive things...like plucking an Airbus A320 out of the river with a crane so massive it makes the airplane look tiny by comparison. Awesome stuff. :)

I have to cop to it: I used to work for Boeing (almost 20 years!) and I could mention every flaw on the Airbus airplanes (we studied them ALL, meticulously) and I, like every Boeing employee or ex-employee, was familiar with the Aloha Air 737 "convertible" and we all said, "Let's see an A300 do THAT!" --- but truth be told, Sully LANDED, didn't crash, this bird! AND against all odds, it did not break up. DID NOT BREAK UP. I have gained some new respect for "upstart" Airbus, primarily because of the way this aircraft performed in Cap'n Sully's remarkable paws! ."There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots." With a couple of notable exceptions, I suggest. Number One would be Yeager. Another, Boeing's own Tex Johnston. The amazing guy with the Rockwell Shrike (or Aero Commander, elegant high-wing twin prop job), Bob Hoover. Sully. And there's this one other guy, a producibility engineer for Beech in Wichita, big tall fella goes by Pinky. And the flight test engineer on the XCor Lynx, big ROUND fella, knows his stuff this Bozlee character! .Airbus, I am impressed. Aircraft fuselage: intact after winter water landing, 155 souls aboard, ZERO casualties. Well done!

Listen to interviews with the survivors and crew. Apparently it was completely silent. I think that the captain and crew may have had a lot to do with that as they remained so calm. Still, it's remarkable, and there was no pushing or shoving to get out either. Every passenger and crew member gave the same description.

I have watched other video of this event. But this shows how a great plane was recovered and to be brought back complete for it's display at the Carolina Aviation Museum to be shared for the public. An amazing event that was a "miracle" for everyone on board the flight and the honorable way this aircraft was recovered.

Still can't believe after a water landing like that, the plane survived along with everybody else on the plane completly intact, nothing broke off, the wings, stayed on the plane, the tail remained on the plane, that still I consider as one of the greatest emergency landings I have ever seen back then with pretty much nothing breaking on the plane. Captain Sully will always be known as a hero....

@AlexanderMcAllister10 жыл бұрын
Pvulture b Wow. Really? You do realize the reason this aircraft was brought down was because of a flock of Canada Geese right??? The Airbus flight control logic actually helped save the people onboard, by protecting Capt. Sullenberger and First Officer Skiles from stalling the aircraft as it slowed and neared the water, the computers onboard kept the A320 in a workable flight envelope, helping the crew to make a successful ditching. A testament to Airbus engineering and development. Therefore, RIP indeed little A320, you performed well :)

21,500 lbs of jet fuel. In the transcripts of the radio communications you can hear Skiles and Sully doing pre-flight check for fuel, verifying 18,500 lbs required for the flight, 21,500 lbs on board.

From the report: "The Airbus simulation indicated that the captain’s aft sidestick inputs in the last 50 feet of the flight were attenuated, limiting the ANU response of the airplane even though about 3.5° of margin existed between the airplane’s AOA at touchdown (between 13° and 14°) and the maximum AOA for this airplane weight and configuration (17.5°)."

it's very rare that a crash plane that doesn't crash land on something like a runway, survives almost completely intact! and even rarer that it survives a water landing!
@watchgoose7 жыл бұрын
There was a KC-97 that ditched in the ATlantic years ago they finally had to shoot down as it floated so long it became a hazard to navigation to shipping! Sully's plane was compromised by some dipstick opening the aft cabin door, letting water in
@budgiebreder7 жыл бұрын
thats true. but my comment was more toward that the plane remained in basically 1 main piece, wings, tail and cockpit remained attached to the main body of the plane.

From the Report: "The NTSB concludes that the captain’s difficulty maintaining his intended airspeed during the final approach resulted in high AOAs, which contributed to the difficulties in flaring the airplane, the high descent rate at touchdown, and the fuselage damage. (See additional discussion in section 2.7.1.)"
