I was watching her old videos the other day and also realized she was THE FIRST to come out with the contour stick.. and then she mentions it today. Wow. She truly doesn’t get enough credit from the beauty community. I wonder how that makes her feel? It would be amazing to hear her talk about it unedited.

Yes, exactly! I remember that so well cuz I asked Etude House(Korean beauty brand) to make a stick contour&highlight like Em cosmetics few years ago when they had a event of collaboration with customers. They asked their customers to send new product ideas so I sent them the stick type makeup thing! I wanted it but hard to buy Em cosmetics' in Korea while I was still a student. And they made it! However, not as collaboration with me nor credit with Em cosmetic/Michelle, but as collaboration with Pony(thier 101 line is collaboration with her). I would never know they actually read my ideas and just wanted to make like it's their own Or, maybe they never read it. But yeah, so that's how I did remember of stick contour is from Em cosmetic for the first time & was sooooooo ground breaking, but no one really credited her or her brand.

I beg to differ. Contour sticks were being used by professional makeup artists since the 80s. They were just not available on the mass market. I am also pretty sure Makeup Forever had contour sticks years ago.

I love how she talks about issues that I myself and a whole bunch of other people around the world are facing. Entering my early 20s and will step into the world once I graduate is truly scary especially with the instability of job opportunities and essentially having absolute zero clue of how to face the uncertainties the future holds. Her comments on that matter hit close to the heart and it gave a sense of comfort to know that I am not alone in this matter. So, thank you and also I love the makeup look

You are really right about the jobs going to people who are already known to the employers. You can't come out of college with 6 years worth of experience for an entry-level job. I like the idea of treating traumas early especially with self-honesty. And the plans and pressures? I feel like I'm running out of time even though I'm not yet 30. Anyhoo, lovely tutorial!

I honestly agree with what you said in a previous video when you said a filter almost looks more like you in the mirror. I used to be so dependent on makeup to feel beautiful and now when I see how I look with makeup on my phone camera I feel like it changes what i actually look like and it makes me feel less beautiful & that’s where filters come into play. But I think if that makes a person feel more beautiful that’s all that matters the intentions aren’t bad & people shouldn’t judge others for what they do to love themselves we’re all just trying to get by💗

There's a lot of ways to get by. Lying to yourself with filters isn't one of them. Enhancing your natural beauty with more colours or new visuals is another thing. Besides, what's the point is everyone looks the same??

as a first gen viet-american 20something who’s grown up watching you, this feels much like catching up with an older cousin or sister. thanks for being so visible and vulnerable. you mentioning the trauma our parents experienced from the war and how they found pockets to process it during our childhood/formative years was a real reminder of that the weight we carry isn’t ours to hold onto. it’s been a struggle finding a therapist that can understand or relate to that experience. trauma is multi-dimensional as is the process of unpacking it. onwards & upwards :)

Your comment on people’s natural blush and them covering it up really touched me. My biggest insecurity is my rosacea, where my cheeks are red/pink. Seeing you be vulnerable then talk about how great having natural blush is made me realize how one person’s insecurity is another’s beauty. I am loving these wise videos ❤️‍🩹

My cousin has rosacea but I never knew until I went to the mall with her. People complimented her on her pretty blush and she would laugh and explain it's rosacea, but they'd still go "It's so pretty!" Growing up, I always wanted naturally pink cheeks like hers too

10:53 - i agree with this 100%. i realized over the years that anger/hate comes from a person’s insecurities & they project because it’s comforting them (not so much yourself) this concept is how i was able to cope with my toxic parents…

Thank you so much Michelle for being vulnerable and sharing about your own experiences of growing up. I have been subscribed to you since I was just 15 and now I am 26. Literally watching your videos, NigaHiga, Kev Jumba and Smosh was what made my life better. Being a minority in my own country and growing up not knowing the culture or language well or the caste, class prevalence and how much it deeply wounded me and effected my everyday life and perspection So much of my pain and trauma I am able to deal with it now with therapy. Your vulnerability and your openness to share your past and your present perspective helps me forgive my young self and genuinely feel sorry for my miserable past life. But thankfully now I am on the path of healing and have started taking care of myself like how a big sister would. Thank you so much Mish for being my big sister!! Always indebted for your makeup and wellness tips and of course your products are always *chef's kiss* Love from India

Dear Michelle, I can't fully express how grateful I am for your videos. Thank you so much for guiding us for so many years with kindness, wisdom and openness about personal issues and trauma. It reminded me of how insecure, pessimistic, envious and prude teenager I was due to my strict upbringing. Before I started watching you in 2009, I absolutely refused to wear any eyemakeup. I wore only foundation (to cover my horrible acne), so it was just an annoying part of my everyday routine. You teached me that makeup can be fun and a way of artistic expression + how to take care of my skin. I used your Graduation makeup tutorial as a reference when I put on the eyeshadows and mascara for the first time at my highschool prom :D Thank you again for inspiring us to be more creative, compassionate people and sharing your life journey (+ lots of great music as well ;) e.g. Kanon Wakeshima and Late Night Alumni

It's the Soda app. I use it all the time so I knew it the minute I saw it. Also, I recommend that app more than others because it still maintains the pic quality like the default cam. Plus, the filters are really great and not obnoxious.

I don’t usually comment on videos but I am in love, you are just so kind, the editing is minimalistic and doesn’t hurt my ears or tire my eyes, and seeing real skin is lovely, when I was younger I had huge insecurities because my skin wouldn’t get that perfect blur effect, wish I had met you back then 💕

i could cry from happiness seeing you upload regularly again. your honesty around facial dysmorphia and filters is so refreshing. everyone uses filters! everyone has a “selfie face”. to a certain extent, we’re all insecure. thank you for being so open! also your voice is just so soothing. really calmed me down after bombing my chem test LMAO

Michelle can you talk about your early makeup… business experience? I remember IQQU (I think that’s how you spell it) and your work with Lancôme. I’d love to hear about your experiences. I remember your very first pallet! Chic by ‘chelle I think it was called ☺️

Michelle. I love watching your makeup tutorials and watching you apply makeup but I really appreciate the small bits of wisdom and knowledge you throw in between. It really draws me in as a viewer and it feels like a real talk. So many things you addressed here are things I was feeling but did not know how to process while in my mid 20's (especially about the trauma). I really look up to you \0/ Thank you for sharing!

True, my parents grow up in the late 60s early 70s. They weren't allowed to show or express their feelings. You weren't allowed to question, what was being told for you to do. And if you did, you got punished for it. And I grew up with parents, already damaged from their own families.

It's wonderful that you were able to turn criticism into something that inspires you to create more content. Proof that there's always opportunity to learn and grow.

Hey babe!! I know this is a makeup channel and it's fun and interactive. As a subscriber, I would like to see some of your digital illustrations and for you to really dive deep in and sharing that side of things with your followers. I think it's fair to say we can learn from your expertise on your digital illustration and would be a plus to your followers to learn and explore more creativily. Some tricks and tips on how you come up with illustrations and tricks and tips on the process would help alot. It would be so much fun. Love Lizzy

Thank you so much for this! I’ve been on the job hunt and it’s been such a struggle and discouraging to see almost nothing for the middle tier jobs. All the while feeling this atmospheric attitude of millennials aren’t trying hard enough.
