I think he is screaming "rolling" before the ball comes and "thunder" when he gets the ball. It would be easier. "Rolling" is to build up tension and "thunder" the result.

You gotta appreciate that when it came to the kick save, Victoria was pretty much like "MOU IKKAI!"

The foot save is indeed physically possible. It's very similar to a cut shot in tennis/ping pong. You're coming across the surface of the ball at such a crazy angle with an insane amount of force (energy of the ball + the kick of the foot) that it generates a super amount of backspin causing the ball to pop straight up. As with most things at that level of speed and force though, the connection has to be pretty perfect so it's undoubtedly pretty hard to recreate. But it wouldn't be impossible. Enjoyed the video very much though. :)

the second to last is hard to replicate... in ~16 years of playing (middle) I only did this once (in gym... beach is something else) a long and streched out jump to get a shanked recieve of a teammate from behind the field... still one of the EPIC volleyball memories :-D mad respect to all liberos out there.

For the last dig, he actually hits it with the outside of his foot. Also, there would have been more speed & momentum to the ball if Noya couldn't dig it out normally. Great vid and attempts

As a former soccer player, you got the right idea at the end for the foot dig. He's using the outside of his foot, not the top. So, the outside of the foot is facing up, which launches the ball up. Love this video. Makes me miss playing volleyball too.

the foot receive is so hard to achieve D: i did a similar dig when i played. it bounced off my shin and i was basically in a deep lunge where my leg was on the floor (thanks flexibility).

For the foot save, I am reminded of grandpa Ukai telling Hinata to stay in contact with the volleyball 24/7. This allows you to subconsciously know how to control the ball with any part of your body. If you watch Nishinoya's foot save closely you'll see the side of his foot just barely go past the center of the ball before making contact, giving it a trajectory towards center court. [personal observation]

The thing about nishinoyas foot save is that it’s more of a half split then he extends his foot far from his body. You have to be extremely flexible and have good balance in that split position to extend your foot that far from your body and be flat under the ball
