Recreating "the sound" from the Goldeneye 007 soundtrack (N64 and Movie)

Today we are taking a DEEP DIVE into the soundtrack for the Goldeneye 007 video game originally for the Nintendo 64. Our mission is to recreate the mysterious sound that can be heard all through the soundtrack for the video game as well as the James Bond movie Goldeneye.

There's only one person whose name comes to mind if someone said "Drums + N64 + James Bond"... that's authenticity right there. Takes me back to when you crushed me in 007 & Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey. Love seeing all the work you've put into your craft over the years. Cheers

Eric Serra uses this loads in other music, including the movie Leon and Fifth element. It was such an awesome sound, i haven't even finished the video yet but i already know the origins of this as i scoured the internet trying to find exactly what this sound was some time ago, which led me to absolutley critically listen to all of Serra's work. he's an awesome composer, honestly i loved fifth element when i was a kid and leon and now even more. Not to mention goldeneye.

Agreed! Definitely had a signature sound. For bond I much prefer David Arnold’s work from this Brosnan/Craig era, but this sample and some of the production sounds/elements are so iconic.

This sound HAS to be made to sound like very old Sonar from some type of old submarine. I was told it was a submarine sonar ping from my fathers friend when I was growing up, and I never ever got it out of my head. Such a creepy but amazing sound to be placed in such a perfect soundtrack, it adds SO much to it. Additionally, I can listen to you experiment and talk about this soundtrack all day.. LOL I love finding people who are passionate about this soundtrack like I am.. it's unbelievably amazing.

No, it was made to sound like pipes because of the Chemical factory in GoldenEye Simple as that

@xGoodOldSmurfehx it came from the proteus emu 2 synthesizer. Setting is called "infinite one" and is under the percussion category. Hope this helps! 😊

The sound is interesting, to me it sounds like listening sonar from the outside of a submarine.

You could make an entire genre of music called GoldenEyecore incorporating that sound. Everybody seems to have known exactly which sound this video is going to be about. Every now and then you hear it in other movies and music but I couldn't give any examples although each time I have heard it I immediately think of GoldenEye

Pretty sure this sound also showed up in Leon: The Professional. I called it "toilet bowl sound" because it reminded me of looking down at a toilet bowl. A metal one. With a ball in it.

After learning about the tambo trick, I actually did something very similar and ended up remaking the pause music in ableton, love this sound to bits!

None of the comments got right! That sound is a "cowbell" from an 80s synth. *There is an official website with all 80s synths with famous songs tagged to it.

I love the quest people had over this very sound. It reminds me when I used a couple hours of lonely night remembering the "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" series had one of its outro indents who mystified me: The Williams Street logo. It sounded like something industrial with an ominous humming. Seeing this indent as a child, late at night, lights off and alone was unnerving to me. I had to dig deeper. I did eventually find the Jack Webb's "Mark VII Limited" indent with the hand hammering the logo away (the real source of the sound). Sometimes, some strange things like these sounds: they mark us in a way not many things could.

check the peak pitch of the sample using spectrum, then you know the note. that'd make this exercise easier.

Needs eq n reverb for sure also sounds like it’s stretched little bit.. almost to make it sound underwater like sonar sound or something but this is still definitely the closest.

I would agree it wasn't the exact same sample. Part of the beauty of music and recording/production is trying experiments and seeing what happens. That exactly what this was for me - hopefully you learned something! I certainly did.
