Proof of concept VR RTS game created in Unreal Engine 4, based on the original C&C: Red Alert 2. Gameplay video using HTC Vive in room scale mode.

I just want the same game with more maps and new extra stuff. Love the 2D graphics sound effects and current units the functionality of everything is great nothing needs changing yes Yuri may be unbalanced but there is a rebalance patch option now making him less op. I could play the game forever literally and never get board.

Red Resurrection and Mental Omega are both pretty good mods: RR is closer to being an "expanded" RA2, though, for sure. Mental Omega is like a completely different game built on the RA2 engine. Both worth checking out.

RTS genre...could very well be a genre that massively benefits from VR. In eSports envoiroment you could have two players facing opposite each other with VR and in the middle of them a Holo projection of the map. Also, I'd like to see Company of Heroes / Men of War Assault Squad 2 with VR. I think all that needs work is how you 'control' units in VR so it is more intuitive and fast/responsive/accurate.

It would require thinking in a new direction. Rather than thinking "How can we convert keyboard/mouse actions to a VR envoiroment." We need to think from the start again. We are looking at ways specifically that VR technology can control and how games/software can interprit new actions.

I'm at a loss for words... This is amazing, and quite inspiring! The only complaint I have is that controlling the game seems a bit clumsy precisely because of VR, but still, this is very cool. A mobile app could actually be a great idea for controlling some things in strategy games, like shown here.

I'd argue mobile app crap is redudant. What they, the game industry, need to do is work on the VR controls. Mobile apps will take away from the immersion expirience. Having said that, this looks awesome.

Redundant, yes. I don't think it should ever be the only option, and it certainly can't work with VR because of the goggles (which I should've emphasized originally). But it would be a great option for certain things in non-VR strategy games, like building units.

You got a great proof of concept there, there's definitely potential there! I think how to represent the menu may still be subject to more experimentation, because the "dream" of course would be to have a menu that's not tied to a single hand so you can each hand as interactor for the game world (each hand selecting and commanding seperately). I hope you'll continue to innovate there!

That is how UE4 mirrors vr to your display by default. It's because the native resolution of HTC vive is 1080x1200 per eye. (portrait mode). I'll find a way to record higher resolution video in 16:9 format. Meanwhile you can enjoy the current format on your phone/ tablet vertically. :-)

Another Alternative could be Voice input as support. Like they did with EndWar. Pretty average game but controlling units by Voice command was damn cool if you ask me.

Endwar was a good concept but the voice controls couldnt cope with a scots accent, not even a fairly light one. That said things have moved on and there's a great program called Voice Attack which is great for playing games like Elite Dangerous in VR but with a bit of time can be set up for pretty much anything.

This is looking excellent and I am quite happy to see OpenRA inspiring content in new mediums. When this is released you'll need to follow the requirements of the GPLv3 (the license chosen for OpenRA), fwiw. No matter this is quite exciting! Could you comment on what plugin(s) you are using to run C# on UE4?

I love EVERY SINGLE THING About this .The gameplay mechanics still function as they did in the original just VR .The models are accurate .The original songs used . All the units maintain their original quotes and sound effects .The skirmish map .Gameplay effects and animations are true My only complain is........ *WHY THE FUCC IS THE SCREEN VERTICAL!*

If only there was a better way to pan around the map. F*ck teleporting, it's the single most annoying, disruptive, unintuitive feature ruining immersion and fun. If there was a persistent minimap, it would make sense to point on the minimap and jump to that POV, but not like this... Would it be possible to use the left controller for zooming towards a target? Or to just hold a button and drag the map on x and y axis with your hand, with the velocity being multiplied, so that it's actually usable. Hell, just do it how R.U.S.E did it. instead of the minimap, you can zoom out so far up that you can see the whole map. Ruse's war room is what we need!

A tactical view and interface like this might be the next level for games like this. You could have 3 screens for the audience. Each person's quite literal viewpoint, along with a traditional overview of the map to give relational reference. I want this badly now.

This is sort of how I always saw the future of RTS. We could hover over the battlefield like a flying drone with full 3D battlefields, dynamic camera angles and the ability to zoom all the way in and control individual units. This is the closest ive seen to my vision.

I still want this so much.. This and Supreme Commander 1 and 2 and all that good stuff. RTS games work _super well_ in VR and there's literally nothing of complexity out there to this very day :(

thing that i see strange about it how do you explore the map? when yo start a game you can't see all the map , also you can build pretty far away from the power , and the aircraft just fly away?
