Red Fox Hilariously Pounces Headfirst Into Snow

Like most foxes, red foxes hunt mice and voles, which they detect through the snow, thanks to an advanced hearing ability. Once a red fox pinpoints its prey’s location, it leaps high into the air and nosedives in.

Think about that the fox needs about 12 mice a day. There are a lot of jumps in the snow required in the winter. I always think about what happens if there is a big stone under the snow. ... Or if you are a mouse chilling under the snow and and suddenly a fox snout comes and grabs you. I as a mouse would die by a heart attack ^^

Also, since they use their hearing, they're listening for the mice in the hollow dens under the snow, so they wouldn't dive into a spot with a rock, hopefully

I was at a family member's house one winter in central Alberta that a large field out back. There were two days that I watched a fox doing this for about 30-45 minutes doing this. Once it came up from the snow with something plump and furry in its mouth.

Had a den in my garden this year. Installed a night motion camera and watched them play. When the Cubs were a few months old they played during the day infront of my window. Lovely to watch. They've moved on now...

The canines are my favorite ones. Foxes are so fluffy, beautiful looking and talkative, especially the gray foxes, they are so cute and their ability to climb even straight trees makes me enchanted.

I show this video to everyone. Seriously. All my friends have seen it. My parents have seen it. My English teacher has seen it. I'm at a party and I don't have anything to say to the person I'm talking to? I ask them if they know about the winter hunting habits of the red fox. This video transcends generations and is my biggest social anxiety crutch besides hiding in the bathroom to get away from people.
