Very well done... I know you keep saying you're not a pro but this has been better than most of the other Komodo videos I've seen. Please keep them coming... thank you.

The best thorough Komodo review I’ve watched thus far (and I’ve watched quite a few). You rock.

Glad you enjoyed it. Most videos I make are the ones I couldn’t find myself when I needed them :) New one coming this week about the software/firmware, options and more. Thank you for the kind comment!

This was by far the best and the most engaging video review a camera that I've seen. Please keep up a good work and I am looking forward to the part two of the video. Thank you!

Thank you Ian. Second video (Deep Dive / Menu Walk-through) will be live in a few hours. I don't know how engaging that one will be, but it will be thorough :)

Hands down one of the best and most through videos on the Komodo I’ve seen. I’m planning on buying one as well and it’ll be my first cinema camera (I don’t think my FX3 counts). And for the same reasons as you - love the hardware side and amazing engineering. But just want to make better filmic videos for myself.

Haha. Well in this video I just explain WHAT it is ... In the upcoming ones once we do the footage samples - I will definitely include a ton of it ... For you I'll make sure I pan left-to right, up and down, take video of a fan spinning, the whole deal :)

I am looking into these cameras, the Komodo's auto focus is sub par compared to Sony Alpha's and Cannon's line, for me this is a highly limiting factor. I like the menu and remote software, great imagine / color science and file size. But still I really need auto focus, and active image stabilization.

learn how to focus manually and you'll be way happier than crappy auto focus.i always do it with a zoom lens.i would zoom all the way in on the subject, focus in and zoom out then approach my subject & it never fails.theres always a work around.other than that w/ red you stabilize in post or buy a good gimbal like a letus helix gimbal.

@@bigpressure00 Yea, I have never heard this advice before thanks. For me, one man crew, the videos are going to be shaky, out of focus, and poorly framed without the features I need. I am not going to be doing five to fifteen takes to get it right each time. I worked in professional film making and video productions in Los Angeles at all of the major studios for more than 12 years. I know what it takes to get a shot right for those types of productions ... three man crews, camera operator, focus puller, dolly grip, crane grip / operator, plus first AD, script continuity person, props, gaffer, makeup, etc., etc.. That is not what I am going for except for that sort of production level in a sequenced planned scripted shot. That is not what I am talking about. AND, autofocus can outperform a manual operator, except on cameras that have crappy autofocus.

what's the proper way to turn it off? side button?
@SilfenPath
@SilfenPath 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. As it doesn’t just yank the power but it goes into a proper graceful shutdown mode.

my big concerned about this camera is that red cameras allways need a lot of noise reduction in post, i mean with a fx9 or something you can shoost at night without los of processin in post with noise reduction, and is no the cae of red cameras, of course better image but you have to know that the processin is going to be a heavy one with noise reduction for almost everything
@SilfenPath
@SilfenPath 3 жыл бұрын
I will post some night shots too. This is by no means RED Gemini but IMHO it does decently well as long as you have at least some light even if only practical lighting the scene. Reason why REDs usually need more noise processing in post is because they do not sharpen anything in camera. RED shoots in pure raw and removing any noise at that stage would no longer give you true RAW footage but rather processed footage. But because of this - you do have a lot more ability to de-noise in post without ruining your image at all. And since ISO is not baked in - as long as you expose your scene right and not clip shadows - you can make most of your footage look amazing. But keep in mind - Komodo was meant to be a B cam / crash cam. For what it is - I find it still quite impressive :) I’ll make sure to get some night shots for download in the next batch so that you can play with footage and see how it is. Thanks!

Silfen Path yea i know, i think i wanna red image lookin with the sony flexibility haha, why can we get a middle point? Yeah, i know part of no NR apply in camera is the way to look less videoish of course. Thanx

I get you :) We need a Monstro in Komodo’s body and price point 😊. Considering how far RED has come form their first camera - within 5-8 years we may as well have it :)

Silfen Path yeah, i want a camera for a indie film, and sometimes i want the komodo but sometimes iam think in a sony one, becauese, i dont like the image so much, but save me lot of time-money in post. And of course, money in production too with less amount of light needed. Not easy

can you tell us more about why you shouldnt shoulde rmount the komodo?
@SilfenPath
@SilfenPath 3 жыл бұрын
It was mostly a joke. You should do with it what ever you want of course. My comment about why you shouldn’t shoulder mount it was 1) because it was not really meant to be used as a shoulder cam and 2) it blows warm air at your face through the exhaust in that position 🙂.

How can I use two monitors at the same time?
@SilfenPath
@SilfenPath 3 жыл бұрын
In a few ways. One - it already has a monitor on top so adding another gives you two. But if you mean two external ones, some good monitors like OSEE g7 etc have a pass through. So you go SDI signal to it, and then you can go from it via SDI to another. Also Komodo has WiFi and can send video signal to iPhone or iPad wirelessly too. They can be used as second or even third monitor. Hope this answers your question. ;)
