This is a glaze given to me by one of you :)
while the glaze was originally posted on glazy by Jake Glaze, I highly doubt this glaze was reformulated by him or made by him so i do not know who owns it.
For anyone who wants the recipe here it is
* Warning* the frit amount in the video is wrong, the recipe down below is correct, ( youtube wont let me post edit tho -_-
Red Oilspot cone 6 oxidation
- Minspar 200 25.91%
- custer feldspar 21.95%
- epk 15.11%
- frit 3195 13.82%
- R.I.O 6.91 %
- Dolomite 6.04%
- Talc 6.04%
- Silica 4.85%
try your best to put the glaze on thick but not too thick as it might lava pit. if you are brushing the glaze on i wold say about 4 coats ought to do it
- wanna send me food and make me fatter?

I want to thank you for the video. I'm a second year ceramics student and we are just starting with mixing and maintaining glazes. I have a little catch-all bowl bisqued. This is going to be my experiment glaze.

Real nice glaze there! The peak temperature hold was good moves. Oilspots also gotta be thicc as oatmeal. Like 3 dip thick for huge spots and really wild surfaces. You'll likely get a killer result by doing a thick coat of red oilspot and a medium or thick coat of floating blue. The titanium from the rutile as well as the cobalt from floating blue both make for interesting variations to oilspots. 3195 is essentially what makes this a ^6 as opposed to a ^10-12 oilspot. Nice work on this one.

Special thanks for the glaze videos. Delicious, this red oil spot, the pots look good enough to eat. Look forward to your trying frit 3195 in other glazes or are you going to make us do it ourselves.

Oh this is great! How the hell am I just now finding this video on my own... Great video glad people are using this glaze. Took a lot of testing to figure out. Looks like you could adjust this glaze a bit to get better results in your kiln and firing schedule. It looks like it could be a bit stiffer so the spots turn out a bit better. Adding small amounts of silica could help. I recently added a photo to the glazy.org profile of this glaze that shows different results I got with different amounts of silica and alumina... could help you find best spot for this glaze in your kiln conditions. As for frit 3195 I like it because it has more boron than 3124. It is more expensive but you can use less of it, so it actually ends up being cheaper. Once again great video and happy to see people using it. You should post a pic on glazy.org and give the glaze a review... if you want.. although this was a year ago. Wtf Haha

Hey Donte, Did you use 4.85 or 4.58 for the silica?

Beautiful glaze, thanks for sharing. I can't find a fine enough silica to go through my 80 mesh sieve, would flint be a good substitute?

Flint and silica in most recipes are kinda the same but ask when mesh the flint is when you buy it.

Better late than never I guess but... silica and flint are the same thing. I used 200 mesh silica.

You are kidding? The floating blue with the red oil is great ✨ Maybe not as red as you would like but it's got mega character. I like it 😁 Peace and Health

i know this is a rather old video - sorry. if one were to round up / down with the percentages for this recipe for larger batches, how much does that matter...? like 0.09% -0.15% ingredient differences. how might substituting the other frits you were more used to for the 3195 affect the glaze? firing cycle with these tests?
@DroneHawkPNW
@DroneHawkPNW 3 жыл бұрын
Better late than never, I guess... I would make a small batch with rounded up numbers. If it turns out fine then make the bigger batch. You can't just substitute a frit for a frit with this glaze. You have to match the UMF. I could do this and post it in glazy.org if you are still interested in making this glaze with different frit. Your comment was from 9 months ago... did you make this glaze or have success with it?
@sergiobarba5711
@sergiobarba5711 4 жыл бұрын
I did a substitution using frit 3134 instead of frit 3195, if somebody want to try it and they just have frit 3134. 33.4% Potash Feldspar 26.3% EPK 14% Ferro Frit 3134 8.6% Talc 8% Silica 2.8% Dolomite 6.9% Red Iron Oxide
@DroneHawkPNW
@DroneHawkPNW 3 жыл бұрын
Hi did this substitution work for you? It is not an exact matching UMF and pretty much everything in this glaze is playing an important role in how it turns out. I could do an exact match glaze using 3134 and post it on glazy.org if this didn't work out for you... and if you are still interested.

I also almost always put the glaze recipe down below so if there's any discrepancy in the video the correction will usually be written or pinned up in the comment or description. I make please take some time to time and I thank you guys when pointing them out. I would have never caught it if someone would have said something.
