Ingredients for the batter:
2 cups poongar rice
1/2 cup urad dal
1/2 tbsp methi seeds
1 1/2 to 2 cups water or as needed to grind the batter, 1 tsp pink himalayan salt
TIP: if grinding in mixie make sure that the rice is soaked for 8 hours and use chilled water to grind. No cooked rice is needed to make the batter, but make sure you mix it well with hand before fermentation.

Hey guys! I used Poongar red rice in this recipe, which you can source locally. Its highly beneficial in balancing hormones hence it is also known as Women's rice. The high fibre in the rice will help to keep you feel fuller for a longer time. That being said, any variety of red rice will be ideal to make this dosa batter. Also note that I used 100% red rice and did not mix in any white rice. Comment and let me know which is your favourite breakfast!!

Yes excellent healthy version idli, dosa and uthapams with this red rice. Actually I used to make poha recipe with this red rice only. But didn' try with poongar rice. I will do that. Regarding sambar with idli, Excellent and ideal combination. Becos idli submerged with sambar is an awesome combination and very very tasty it will be. I prefer this way only. 👌👌👌👏👏👏

Nisha are you referring to the whole lurid dal with the black skin in place of the skinned one she has used. Also which rice did you use and by what name. I live in Mumbai

You can use black urad dal. I avoided it purposely in this recipe as it will be too much fibre. The rice is already high in fibre. Hope this helps.

Hi, I tried fermenting poongar rice, with urad and moong and fenugreek, but after 14 hours there was water at the bottom and the rice had risen only a little, there was no offensive smell, but I don't know if it fermented well, is it still safe to consume?
