Great music in this one. "When Payday Rolls a Round is just one western swing number that hits on all cylinders.

I'm a great fan of the trumpet player and band leader Harry James. I often think about that same number scored with him doing a trumpet solo where the fiddle solo is now.

There's hardly a day when I don't watch at least one RR movie. I have a collection of Winchester rifles and six-shooters, and I can handle them quite well. *But when I look at what 'development' has done to the 'wide open spaces', I could sit down and cry. Anyone who actually likes these modern times is lacking something in their souls.

I always liked Sally Payne. She was usually cast as the Plain Jane in movies, but a second look at that smooth skin and sweet smile makes me forget whoever was supposed to be 'the female lead'. She was actually quite pretty.
@uncagedeagle40289 ай бұрын
Not to mention her character always has a lot of spunk and usually a lot more attitude than the leading lady. She and Gabby Hayes really made Roy's movies extra fun to watch from the early 1940's

I've lusted after Sally Payne for years. *And note that she was usually listed about the main female lead in the credits.

Note how smooth and full Roy's singing voice is here, as opposed to his singing in 'Romance On The Range' in 1942.

To Harold Smith: you're right about the old movies deteriorating if they aren't transferred to videotape or some other modern medium. It has been estimated that at least 50% of all of the movies produced before 1950 are now lost forever. Nuts. That means that my Charlie Chan collection is still incomplete.

Disregard my previous entry. I was confusing this with 'The Man From Cheyenne', which also featured Gale Storm and Sally Payne. The two movies are often linked when playing one or the other.

Technical point: this is supposed to be around the 'Red River', supposedly in Texas, but what about those mountains in the background? Is that geographically correct, or are we just not supposed to notice that around the flat land of Texas?

At about 31:00 Sally asks Gabby to drive her to work. He doesn't want to, and suggests that she hitchhike. **But she'd already driven the car at 29:34 and could have used it.

Does anyone know the name of that song they were singing in the jail cell? And who wrote it? I'm tempted think it was another Bob Nolan tune.

This is Lee Larson again, and I wish to apologize for the crudeness of my evil twin in his previous entry. His attitude is so bad that he ought to be working for Allison and Murdock. As for me, I'm drinking buddies with Sheriff Sutherland. Anyone who appreciates whiskey can't be all bad. "Never trust a man who doesn't drink." *W.C. Fields

Judy was supposed to have been raised on the same ranch as Roy, but yet she now has a father who's the Sheriff. Isn't that a bit inconsistent? Or was the Sheriff a wayward father? Or was Judy kidnapped? And why is Judy still living on Gabby's ranch?

Yes, it's me again. I have to admit, as a loyal RR fan, that I really think the music played at the 'Casa Rio' (at about 45:00) stinks. It sounds rather wimpy compared to the he-man sound of the Sons of the Pioneers. But, don't mind me. I bitch about everything, and at every chance I get. I'm a male chauvinist pig/cowboy/beast.
