In 1978 my Grandfather and I were walking through the forest in Germany. He was a great man and I loved him very much. Grandpa..... Opa I called him was 66 years old and I was 5 years of age. He had been in the Wehrmacht and had fought in Norway first and had later fought on the eastern front and had been heavily wounded several times. He fought in the battle of Stalingrad and survived. We would often go for long walks together deep in the German forest. One day we entered a small clearing in the woods and we saw 3 small tombstones clustered together in the middle. I had been to a cemetery before with my family and knew that 3 people must be buried there. So I asked my dear Opa ..... who is buried here? He told me it was towards the end of the war in 1945 and three young German soldiers had been separated from their group. They had decided that the war was lost and they didn't want to fight anymore, they were battle-weary Opa told me. So the young soldiers deserted and decided they would camp out in this small clearing. They would remain hidden in the forest until the allies came along and then they would surrender and be POW's. Opa told me that the Waffen SS found them by accident. It was evident that they had deserted because the Waffen SS could see that they had been there for many days. So those 3 got a bullet in the back of the head on the spot and were buried on location. True story. My dear Opa lived to the ripe old age of 97 and I love and miss him very much. Gott mit uns. ❤❤❤

Wunderbar! A great humanitarian war movie thank you. We all see the evil atrocities and the killing in war and bloodshed, but it was good to see the other side, one which is many times overlooked or forgotten.

Mein Vater war im Jagdgeschwader 2 Immelmann JU 87 Bordschütze. Gefangen in in Italien von Engländer. Gefangenschaft in damaligen Palästina am Bittersee bis 1948. Er hatte Glück ! Ich bin 13 Jahre nach dem Krieg geboren. ;-)

I was raised in snow country and I was in Germany for 2 years. The problem is, there is not enough light to form shadows. From 0800 to 1700 the light didn't change much. It was cloudy and heavily overcast. It is nearly impossible to determine where the Sun was.

If just one of these short films had an ending where the two side working together made it out. They wouldn’t be as predictable.

As an American, I am getting an odd pleasure in seeing/hearing the usual language trope that WE get, with all soldiers speaking English being turned around to all speaking German. Es is schone, mit alle soldaten Deutsche gesprechen. (Best I can do with my limited German skills)

In August 1944 a daring raid was launched from besieged Brest in France. A company of German paratroopers went 30 miles behind US lines to rescue 130 of their comrades who had been captured by the French resistance. In one of the trickiest missions of the war, the Green Devils, so nicknamed by the British who respected the German paratrooper's fighting qualities, pulled off an extraordinary coup. This is a true story with Erich Lepkowski as commander of the company. It would be cool if you could do something about this story . Well done by the way :)

You know, I like short films like these. Where soldiers from two opposing factions open up to each other and reveal that they indeed had families to care for, and hobbies that they had before entering the war. Just goes to show that all soldiers from each sides were human, and that all the propaganda from both sides were brainwashing them.

Interesting perspective with the Germans who show as Americans speaking german vs english.....well done btw

VERY sad ending to this dramatic short story which showed us the best and worst side of the complexities of war. I am sure there were many German Soldiers who did not go along with Hitler's vision of total victory in Europe. If I am correct there were a couple of attempts to kill Hitler by his own Generals but they never were successful.
