First Public Promotional Trailer for the feature film RED TAILS.
1944. World War II rages and the fate of the free world hangs in the balance. Meanwhile the black pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program are courageously waging two wars at once -- one against enemies overseas, and the other against discrimination within the military and back home. Racial prejudices have long held ace airman Martin "Easy" Julian (Nate Parker) and his black pilots back at base -- leaving them with little to do but further hone their flying skills -- while their white counterparts are shipped out to combat after a mere three months of training. Mistakenly deemed inferior and assigned only second-rate planes and missions, the pilots of Tuskegee have mastered the skies with ease but have not been granted the opportunity to truly spread their wings. Until now.
As the war in Europe continues to take its dire toll on Allied forces, Pentagon brass has no recourse but to reconsider these under-utilized pilots for combat duty. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, Col. A.J. Bullard (Terrence Howard) awards them the ultimate chance to prove their mettle high above. Undaunted by the prospect of providing safe escort to bombers in broad daylight -- a mission so dangerous that the RAF has refused it and the white fighter groups have sustained substantial losses -- Easy's pilots at last join the fiery aerial fray. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies in a heroic endeavor to combat the enemy -- and the discrimination that has kept them down for so long.
Directed by: Anthony Hemingway.
Starring: Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston, Brandon T. Jackson and Nate Parker.
Red Tails is an upcoming film directed by Anthony Hemingway, from a script by John Ridley and story by executive producer George Lucas. It is based on the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American combat pilots during World War II, and is the first Lucasfilm Ltd. production since Radioland Murders (1994) not to be associated with the Indiana Jones or Star Wars franchises.
George Lucas began developing Red Tails around 1988. He compared it to Tucker: The Man and His Dream as "a story too good to be true". Thomas Carter was his original choice to direct. A number of writers worked on the project until John Ridley was hired in 2007 to write the final screenplay. Lucas held discussions with Samuel L. Jackson regarding Jackson possibly directing and acting in the film. Although Jackson praised the script, he did not commit to either role. Anthony Hemingway was finally chosen to direct in 2008. In researching the film, Lucasfilm invited some of the surviving Tuskegee Airmen to Skywalker Ranch, where they were interviewed about their experiences during World War II. Lucasfilm was also given access to the original mission logbooks used by some of the pilots.
Production began in March 2009. High-definition Sony F35 cameras were used for principal photography, which took place in the Czech Republic, Italy, Croatia and England. While shooting in the Czech Republic, the actors underwent a "boot camp" program, during which they lived in similar conditions as the actual Tuskegee Airmen. Editing began while the production was in Prague. Avid editing systems were used simultaneously in a Prague studio and at Lucasfilm. A vehicle was fitted with a "technical center" so that the production could quickly move between locations. In March 2010, Lucas took over direction of reshoots, as Hemingway was busy working on episodes of the HBO series Treme. Hemingway will have final approval over the footage.

I don't care if it is unrealistic or bad acting. The movie is based on a true story and the movie is of course not for everyone. I like planes and stuff and one of my favorite artists is Ne-Yo so that was really cool. The movie has an exciting part and a sad part. To be honest, I really enjoyed it. Before I get hate comments, this movie took very long time to make. Movies based on a true story has to be done like this. I know many people enjoyed it and I am one of them. I just can't understand why people have watched the movie, then they come here to write a bunch of shit about it. I came here to write a positive recommendation. It's not without its flaws. But I think the film's heart is in the right place. For example the shot of a Mustang strafing a destroyer and it has this big explosion. I think that's more than likely hollywood bull****. I feel the film got bogged down with too many subplots but still, it's a story that deserves to be told. Also if you didn't know about the Red Tails? Look up the Black Panthers. They were an all black Tank Destroyer battallion in WWII. If you really want to dig deeper? Check out the Harlem Hellfighters from WW1 as well as the 54th Massachusetts Infantry regiment in WWII. You also had the 1st Kansas all colored volunteer infantry regiment during the Civil War.

Light speed would require an extreme payload of fuel An extreme payload of fuel would not allow light speed to happen. Radition in space would fry humans. Agreed. When Doolittle instructed his FG's to leave the bombers and actively hunt and destroy the enemy it was a turning point in the air war. Meanwhile Doolittle almost had a mutiny on his hands when the bomber group CO's actually accused him of murdering their crews. His decision was strategically correct but the bomber crews didn't appreciate it. Meanwhile over at the 15th AAF it looks like their FG's had a mixed approach to strategy with some hunting and others protecting.

No the Tuskegee Airmen did not shoot the highest score. A fighter group in the 8th. Army Air Corp holds that record. Also pilots did not break bomber formation for glory. They left because of their commander Gen. Jimmy Doolittle who ordered them to. You could not destroy the German Air Force staying with the bombers. Leaving bomber formation and destroying the German Air Force made D-Day possible. The allies owned the sky's over Europe because of this tactic.

"they actually lost at least 25 [fighters]" They lost 25 bombers, not 25 fighters - their primary role was as bomber escorts in Europe. Still, 25 bombers lost was considered an excellent record for the time - most other escort groups had far worse records. Out of nearly 180 missions, the Tuskegee Airmen suffered losses on only 7 occassions.

People just don't understand the REAL capabilities of the fighters of the day. Some were not built very well and couldn't handle the stresses of some of the maneuvers. However, the Mustangs could handle everything that was shown in this movie. Their aluminum and steel construction could take quite heavy stresses and punishment, there are pictures of them coming home with pieces of their tails and wings torn completely off. There is a recorded and verified incident of the maneuver Lightning used where he pitched up and pulled a hard rudder, stalling out, being done in WW2. The show Dogfights is the best place you can find it, from there you can scour the web and you might be able to find some more detailed documents.

First off They did not sink that destroyer (destroyer is an unknown type, since there is no recognizable design that fits the ship design in the movie), they did infact cripple it, and it is obvious they detonated either ready-use AA gun ammunition stores, or possibly the Torpedo armament or the magazines for such torpedoes.

BaconCandy Suzie Because the movie is totally unrealistic. On this trailer alone a Me-262 cannot outrun a Mustang, Mustang makes a 180 turn on a dime, and somehow a ship exploades when fired by a planes mg and cannon.
@joelmalcolm6268
@joelmalcolm6268 9 жыл бұрын
Pikkabuu Actually, it can do all three. The Me262 is faster, the mustang did a famous German manoeuvre performed by Hans Joachim and if the .50 calls penetrate the amour of the ships side at the ammunition area, it will explode and has been done historically. Also, the weather was hot in the area of the ship and the gun camera recorded a hatch to the ammunition being left open, as the crew wanted ventilation and were caught of guard.
@Pikkabuu
@Pikkabuu 9 жыл бұрын
Joel Malcolm You need a very very very lucky shot to be able to blow up the ships munitions with .50 call. Besides the fact is that historically the Tuskegee Airmen never sunk a ship. There is only one case where the Tuskegee attacked a ship which got disabled and later was scuttled by the Germans. As for the other two. Yes the Me262 could outrun the Mustang easily but this movie shows that Mustang could keep up with it. As for Hans-Joachim Marseille (Please use the full name, as searching only a partial name takes time.) turns, Marseille was an exceptional fighter and one whos skill was very high (Remember that even his comrades couldn't keep up with him.), so I highly doubt that you can find tons of people who can accomplishe the same manouveres as he did. But this movie again shows that such manouveres are easy to pull. And of course such manouveres were not used on Me262 as they were again too fast.

No, it's quite unrealistic. One example: When the american fighters shoot, everything goes up in fire and explosion, just like if they were shooting with explosives. But in fact, american fighterplanes like the P 51 hat just machine guns. When the attack the ship, also this goes up in flames, by machinegun bullets! And later, when the american pilot get's hit by the german Me 262, it seems like the germans used normal machine guns (like the P 51 actually had), but that's wrong, because the Me 262 had four 30mm machine cannons that shot projectiles with explosives. A pilot being hit by this would get torn into thousand peaces and not sit bleeding in his seat...

Jolly Roger Ok. I laughed too when he attached the ship and exploded or the attack at the train but after having seen multimilioner movies like pearl harbor, The Aviator and others, I was very impressed by this movie. Many different airplanes realistic scenes (I am not talking about the machine guns) but heavy landings, formation of many bombers, smokes ecc. Here Airplanes had the protagonist role they deserve.
@HommyAG
@HommyAG 10 жыл бұрын
Jolly Roger LOL maybe you need to use your eyes. When the ship blows up, they were shooting propane tanks with their machine gun bullets. If you actually bothered to watch the scene, you would see all the propane tanks on the deck of the ship. As for the other times, like when they attack the camp, the bullets themselves didn't blow thing up, but in all the confusion, fire can spread. All it takes is one panicking person to knock over some flammable thing, into a cooking fire or something. There were tons of cooking fires in the camp. And true, you are right about the Me 262, but that's the only time you're right. I can't understand why so many people hate on Red Tails. If you want something that is EXACT, then watch a fucking documentary! For a Hollywood movie, I'd say it's top notch.
@turbowmore
@turbowmore 10 жыл бұрын
Winning Goalie I don't hate the movie. The problem is just that it bases on effects before facts, and that makes it competely unrealistic. Why should there be propanetanks on a destroyer, placed in a way that makes it absolutely likely they get hit and explode when attacked by machineguns? That is complete nonsens. And it's not nessecary to make these over the top action scenes, have a look at movies like Saving Private Ryan or Iwo Jima.
@HommyAG
@HommyAG 10 жыл бұрын
Jolly Roger Those other movies are good, especially Saving Private Ryan. The reason Red Tails has over the top action is because that's what the average American wants. From my experience, Americans have REALLY short attention spans. Sorry if you're American, I don't mean all of them, I'm Canadian myself haha.
