Thanks ZeeCee. Not going to shorten but may add some quick tip videos (not live). I don’t think it’s even possible to do a proper painting in real time in 10 minutes anyway.

When I saw the picture, I thought this would be much of a repeat of the earlier poppy video (which was great, of course). However, I couldn't have been more wrong. This video was even more fabulous than usual. It describes the use of warm and cool colours to get form, why to use various methods to darken a colour, loading a brush, and water control. among other techniques Best yet was how to correct problems such as a cauliflower or a doubly painted boundary between colours. Thanks you as always!

Yes the video is long. But… it is worth every minute. Your videos are spectacular in every way possible. I would rather spend this time watching your videos than watching TV. Shelley, thanks for another beautiful demo. Sorry for the background questions (I will definitely watch next week), but I’m about to try to add darks to part of my blurry background and don’t want to get water lines or smear darks into lights, or get overlaps. It’s so fresh right now, better than usual. I was thinking to try mist instead of brush with clear water. What do you think?
@shelleypriorfineart
@shelleypriorfineart Жыл бұрын
I enjoy questions D. Thanks for participating. Mist would be greats EXCEPT that you can’t control where it sprays so the background can bleed into your main subject. Therefore, make sure your first layer is 100% dry. I would re-wet your background with a soft brush, feather touch and without a lot of brushing. Over-brushing could disturb the first layer as it softens once it’s wet and make things muddy.

I’m wrapping my mind around the yellow under coat. WHAT OTHER COLOR COMBINATIONS ARE TYPICALLY USED?
@shelleypriorfineart
@shelleypriorfineart Жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike. The yellow is to warm the paper colour before adding warmer tones on top … like bright red or orange. It adds more life to the colour rather than painting on the cool white of the paper.

I really enjoyed your style of teaching and replayed this one a numbers of times. Trouble with the paint consistence. Was the consistency that of tea, runny cream or something else? Cheers from Australia
@shelleypriorfineart
@shelleypriorfineart Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your support Mark. I really appreciate it. The consistency really depends on the area in which you are working. For richer color you need more pigment (cream) and for light values you need more water (tea). In any case, the paint should be fluid enough to that one will blend into the next. Be aware of how much paint is in your brush too though. In other words, if you fill a brush with a lot of any consistency next to a smaller amount of paint or water it will overwhelm the area on the paper. This is why I often blot my brush, even if it is loaded with colour.
