The way I've always seen it, the MV is a tongue-in-cheek play on how love can sneak up and wreck you when you least expect it. You're just laying in bed, eating breakfast, playing games, oblivious that just out of sight is your doom. The lyrics play into this too, with the game of Russian Roulette being where the guy says "love is a game" to be easily enjoyed, but RV is warning him that one of these days he's going to pull that trigger and wind up shot in the heart by love.

They are concept queens. Executing any genre with top level perfection. Many try and cover them but realize it’s not easy 🤣 It will take at least a dozen watches to get some of all the details of their videos. Many details interconnected with other MVs. RV iconic in many ways, this choreo was everywhere on TikTok even recently 🤣

" Red Flavour " by Red Velvet is the red side of their concept and another is " Power Up "

Reveluv is just pronounced like it is spelled, and you are doing it right (as far as I know). Red Velvet don't have an overarching concept, except producing high quality music. But there are certain themes you will find in their MVs and music: (1) repeated imagery, like Seulgi with a gun, the members sitting at a table; (2) soft witchcraft themes, usually playful, they don't take it that seriously; (3) repeated sexual metaphor. The last one is usually romantic and playful, never vulgar. But Red Velvet leads the world in food-sex metaphors. By the way, you should watch Ice Cream Cake next. Then you are ready for some B-sides. An album listen of The Perfect Red Velvet would be a great place to start.

Hey, have been really enjoying your Red Velvet reactions! In terms of lore for the group, there have been many theories, some of the more popular being that they are a cult or even more recently, that they are dolls and the videos are stories in which a child named “Reve” is coming up with whilst playing with the dolls. I personally tend to lend my hat more to the theory that they are a coven of witches (you’ll see why if you react to mv’s like “Queendom” and “#Cookie Jar”). Also, their label (SM) released a description of what each group is supposed to represent within their world and Red Velvet was described as “Transcendental Beings that are in Communion with the Gods” which rules out dolls and cult to me. But hey, who says you can’t have a witchy-cult-coven. In terms of Russian Roulette, the lyrics lend itself to the video because they are talking about love which feels like a game. In the video, we see the members fighting over the love of one person in the video (whoever is wearing the glasses at 4:27). In short, I just think we are witnessing how transcendental beings would handle a situation like this, which is hit each other with cars, pianos, and refrigerators. Just my theory.

Red vs Velvet has less to do with dark / creepy / quirky than it does with the style of the song. Most of their MV's, regardless of whether they are Red or Velvet, will have dark / creepy / quirky undertones, or even overtones, to them. In other words, dark, creepy and/or quirky are common throughout most of their MV's. This song / MV would be considered 'Red' as it is more on the colorful, poppy and fun side. Bad Boy would be considered as 'Velvet' because it is, in general, more mature and nowhere near as poppy. Other examples of 'Red' songs would be Oompah Oompah and Dumb Dumb. Yes, and Ice Cream Cake too. More examples of 'Velvet' would be Automatic and Be Natural. In a lot of cases they kind of skirt the edge between the Red and Velvet sides. Most people seem to put Peek-A-Boo in that category. And, yes, it seems that at least half of Red Velvet's MV's were created by people suffering from fever dreams.

Oh boy, you chose the two most murderous Red Velvet MVs to watch 😂😂 welcome to the cult!! LOL Like some comments said, Russian Roulette and Peek-a-boo are both red and velvet, so I guess that's why you can't really see a difference for the moment, but once you hear both sides you'll get it. For the red side I recommend Red Flavor, Power Up and Dumb Dumb. From the velvet side, One of These Nights, Automatic and Bad Boy. It would also be pretty fun to watch you react to their most "controversial" songs aka you love them or you hate them. For example: Zimzalabim, Rookie, Really Bad Boy (not a sequel) and Birthday 😅

There is no meta concept to the videos. I think they are going for are striking images. And they also seem to have a dark, disconcerting sense of humor. The closest thing to a narrative in a video that springs to my mind is in Umpah, Umpah, which is mostly cute and silly Aannnd a little darkness in one set of images. I also think you are incorrect in thinking the velvet sides are dark. Velvet sides are more r&b, smooth, soulful. Outstanding examples from Killing Voice include - "One of These Nights" and "Automatic" - which have terrific videos, which might be kind of strange/quirky, but don't seem dark to me. Red sides are upbeat, pop/rock, experimental. Exemplars from Killing Voice include - "Happiness," "Dumb,Dumb," & "Red Flavor" - which also have terrific videos that are bright, shiny and big, silly fun. I have a few suggestions. Start at the beginning. !. Happiness, their first song. Their hair is color coded, (which carries on into a few of their later videos.) Irene is reddish pink. Joy is green. Seulgi is yellow. and Wendy is blue. This song is also pre Yeri who was too young at this point in Red Velvet's career. 2. Be Natural, which is also pre-Yeri. It's a Velvet number which places an emphasis on song and dance, and is not at all dark. one last one . . . ha, I'm gonna fudge here, Ice Cream cake is Red and Yeri's first appearance. It's weird, and I'm only now warming up to it after all these years, but like I said it's Yeri's first. Me, I'd suggest Dumb Dumb. It's early and very red. Better song, better images, and more fun imo. That's enough of me yammering at you. Thanks for the videos. It's fun to see the look on peoples' faces the first time they hear Wendy belting out - Shine on me! - in Happiness, discovering just how amazing these gals are.
