My Opinion 1. 1. Weight, I like the planted feeling a heavier bike provides. 2. Handling, Im not looking for super sharp turns, I set up my turns early and float through them! 3. Price, at this stage in my life I just purchase what I really want. No guarantee tomorrow I will have the opportunity I have today 4. BHP, I love cruiser torque, provides plenty of pull, all I need, and I stay out of trouble for the most part 5. Maintenance, you’re right ! This is a challenge, can take a lot of time. Everyone should strive to have a cruiser as a alternate for the days you’ve not interested in burning up the road ! Great video, excellent scenery on this one ! 👍

Five reasons why I love my Speedmaster. 1. Looks. When I look at my bike I feel a bond I never had with my previous Adventure bikes. 2. Low seat height. Being a short ar#e with 30” inside leg measurement I can safely get both feet on the ground whilst on it. 3. Riding position. With numerous spinal injuries that prevent me from leaning forward to hold the handlebars, the swept back beach bars keep my spine straight. 4. Comfort. With the forward pegs and a very comfortable, well padded, saddle I can ride for hours without any discomfort. 5. Power. The lack of outright power suits me just fine. I have been there and done that when it comes to being a hooligan. I have had plenty of stupid fast rides, crashes and ‘wow, I got away with that’ moments. I am 65 years old and now just love to bimble on the many B roads in my area, taking time to ‘smell the roses’ along the way. The truly wonderful thing about motorcycles is they can be all things to all different riders. I believe everyone has their ideal bike out there, be it a Honda C90 to go around the world on or a BMW 1000RR to ease mental health issues. In the words of my previous employer ‘All different all equal. I have enjoyed all your videos for that reason, an unbiased, open minded review of pros and cons. Keep up the good work take care of yourself.

Older cruisers can be a really good option for a well built and reliable cruiser. I have a 2011 Honda Shadow 750, came with heated grips, windscreen and pannier bags. Sure it’s a simple bike with fuel injection being about the only feature. I think at the crank it’s about 45hp! The maintenance on my cruiser is an absolute pleasure, there is just very little to it. A shaft drive, oil and some basic brakes. I realised that the big thing about cruisers was that mindset - relaxing your riding, taking in the scenery (NZ roads for the win) I use mine a bit practically - shopping runs, hoping the wife on the back, going to work. It’s pretty great for that. One of my biggest boons on my bike is the stability and wind affect me far less than my other bikes. I love it for that. Awesome channel, love your vids! Great to see your perspective

Hey! What happened to "Chow Bella"? On a more serious note about the weight of cruisers or any other heavy and/or tall bike for that matter… guys, unless the ground is as level as a pool table and grippy, never… never EVER park your bikes with the front wheel NOT pointing into the direction you want to leave later on. You will regret this sooner or later, especially on solo rides. The only exception though would be the front wheel pointing downhill. Great video! Ciao bello! 😜

With size and weight generally speaking, comes comfort. Maneuvers need thinking about but, as with forward controls, does comes naturally with riding time done. Cornering approach is slightly different line to normal bikes, once this is mastered though, it can be easily done and to a enthusiastic level. Just takes little more thought input than sportier bikes, that to some isn't going to be for everyone. Cruiser cornering school lol 😂 Torque instead of outright speed is the big bonus, that and comfort and carrying capacity. As you said, they tend to command higher prices so, not a good choice for those who neglect their machines. Best looking bikes too, again generally speaking....😎 Safe rides bud 🍻🏁

Good video,I would have to agree with you on all 5 points, in my 42 years of riding (26 of those years on 5 different harley's,now on a 2020 Speedmaster for 3 years) 2 -1976 750 Bonnevilles I have to admit I love the cruiser style bike and I am fully prepared to loose a little handling and performance, just to ride this style of bike, I love the down low torque they produce.....I grew up surrounded by my Fathers bikes, BSA's, Triumph's and one lovely Vincent, so I was influenced by that style of bike, I cannot recall ever wanting a high revving bike that exited like s**t out of a shangeye, these days I'm 67 and happy enough just cruising, well most of the time. :) ....Ride Safe.

Hi Jeff, thanks glad you enjoyed the vid 👍 Sounds like you are a cruiser guy through and through! Thanks Angus. My Speedmaster, as you say, over 260kg. My BMW R1250RS..243kg. But.. because the COG is so low on the Speedmaster, it's easier to push around than the 1250 RS. And the RS is easier (in my view) than the GS and the Triumph 1200 Explorer, all because of COG. The BMW R18 has a reverse gear, which must be helpful. The Speedmaster is one beautiful bike.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Жыл бұрын
👍 my pleasure. Yes the Speedmaster is particularly low to the ground, which definitely helps with manoeuvring. I actually find the GS really easy to manoeuvre, perfect high to just hold and wheel around. Motorcycles are like shoes: made for a particular purpose. If we're lucky we can own several pairs of shoes and sneakers. If the budget is tight, we make do. p.s. also inline 4's are the devil's toy. I crashed twice on the beast: 60mph and 130 mph. I live to tell the tale. At this point the cruiser is the way (as soon as I get one, lol).

Chrome on motorbikes is like gold on women. After that opening, I better elaborate. I really like the idea of a cruiser but can't abide feet-forward, even mid-pegs, on two-wheelers - Can-Am Spyders are different. I had considered a Triumph Rocket lll Roadster back in 2010 before I made my escape to Thailand. I test rode it - the best bike I've ever been on - but decided it was perhaps a bit too uneconomical. A good job because it wouldn't have fitted into my escape van. Some time later in Portugal, I had a moment of inspiration and bought a bike with an air-cooled, two-valve per head, 1670cc cruiser engine, putting out 110 ft/lb at 3,750 rpm, but crucially in a sportier chassis with drag bars and rear-sets. The Yamaha MT-01 gives me all the low-down torque of a cruiser without the backache. I still have the MT in Portugal, but the other week in Thailand, I bought a Yamaha SCR950. A similar riding experience, if a bit more upright, although only 59 ft/lb, albeit at 3,000 rpm. And all that with no chrome. Your Triumph looks great, especially with no rear seat. I understand why you like it so much.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Жыл бұрын
Haha! Fair enough the riding position really does not suit everyone. The Rockets really are big and heavy bikes (perform great though), perhaps not ideal for Thailand. I guess an ADV bike in Thailand may be a good option 🤔 The MT10 is a beast and I am yet to ride one, but yes some sports bikes can rival cruisers on torque and crazy amounts of HP. Sometimes I like the torque without the HP. Have always liked the look of the SCR950 👍 Nice classic riding style. Cheers

@@redangrevival It is the MT-01 that I have. The MT-10 is a different bike. Mine is the original MT. The 01 is not a sports bike: 89 bhp, 110 ft/lb. The Rocket I rode was the old one. It was such a good ride. I expected to struggle to get it off the side stand. It was easy. I would love one. I'm not a fan of the new one, even if it is lighter. Regards, N

Some good points Angus, but you forgot to mention ground clearance and scraping the pegs. Of all the cruisers I think the Speedmaster is the nicest, the most nimble and best handling. It can hustle when you want it to. Other cruisers such as HD or Indians don't do anything for me, too big and ugly. It's only the Speedmaster that rocks my boat. They are simply beautiful bikes to look at. The other thing which might possibly be a negative is vibes, but with the Speedmaster it doesn't seam to suffer from vibes unless you rag it which is missing the point of how to ride it. Call it character. I found the Speedmaster fairly easy to move around as it is so low, certainly easier than a big top heavy ADV bike or sports touring bike. Another downer especially on the SM is that you and the bike sit quite low so you are potentially at greater risk of being rear ended approaching junctions or in traffic, or other traffic not seeing you when they might if you were riding a higher bike such as on an ADV bike. On an ADV you have a high commanding view over most cars whereas you tend not to on a cruiser.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Жыл бұрын
Thanks 👍 Yes that is a major problem to consider, I forgot that!! I am scraping the pegs more and more on Speedy (scary at times). The Speedmaster has just such beautiful dimensions etc... compared to other larger cruisers. Yup only get vibes when pushing it too hard, have to keep low in revs. I think that is a point with most cruisers, you are sitting very low so not ideal for visibility on the road etc... That is one big benefit of ADV bikes for sure. Still loving my Speedy though, roll on the Spring 😉 Cheers
