I used to visit the seaside town of Redcar often as a child. But what is it like now?

I remember a busy sea side resort as a child, played on trampolines on the beach and rode donkeys ate fish n' chips and lemon top ice creams. You can now find the donkeys in the council offices, who spend their days ruining the town on a daily basis. I also remember all the sand going missing with storms at one point revealing the rocks beneath and the final demise of the pier in a storm in 1978. The total disintegration of the pier after many ship collisions after it was originally built, was provided by Redcar council, who just left it to rot and then replaced it with a laughing stock.

The must see venue in Redcar is the historic Pacitos Ice cream parlour on the seafront They invented the Redcar institution the Lemon Top icecream. The newly restored Regent cinema restaurant is an amazing venue when the tide is in as the glass balcony is surrounded by seawater. on 3 sides .Also on the beach is an amazing colony of Sand Martins than return each summer from South Africa. Finally the recently restored Redcar Kirleatham walled garden is a fantastic venue

This video followed a 1960s Redcar that I,d been watching and there,s a big difference, take a look. I was in my early teens and could easily have been one of the crowds. It takes me back with nostalgia cos I live in New Zealand now and emigrated here 24 years ago from Thornaby-on-Tees.

Born in Hartlepool at one time I was the Manager of the Redcar Electricity Board Showroom. I loved working there. Fresh bracing sea air, fish and chips and seagulls. There's nowt better. ❤ x

The steel from Redcar also cross the ocean to Thailand (Siam) to build our *Memorial Bridge in Bangkok (by Dorman Long & Co / finished in the same years of Sydney Harbour Bridge 1932) nice to see many good things from your KZfaq channel 📌👍
