this was a good video. Here's like not an unpopular but like definitely controversial thought, Micaiah is actually one of my favorite lords in the series until Part 4 plot stuff because I think she's a very great take of an ignorant rebellion leader. Micaiah does get a lot less interesting as a character once Part 4 hits, but I think before then she works really well as someone whose stepping into a pond way more vast than she understands, Micaiah makes a lot of genuinely stupid decisions because of pride, ego, and her blind nationalism faults her into AND I think the game does for the most part a great job of highlighting the issues of her actions rather than treating her as perfection through the criticisms of the other characters and the results of her actions. I think the Blood Contract was actually unnecessary for Micaiah committing to the war just because she was already excellently characterized as someone who is dedicated to the cause of Daein to the degree that her personal doubts and regrets would ultimately take a backseat. I think there's actually a lot of interesting stuff from a thematic sense when you look at Micaiah in the role of an ignorant leader rather than the mary sue. And this part might be more of the popular opinion idk I don't pay attention to RD discourse too much, BUT... I also really like to think of RD to be an explicit deconstruction of Fire Emblem Troupes at the time and their issues in the same vein Genealogy was for a lot of the typical ideas FE had (in the case of FE4, things like the deconstruction of the noble hero with a good cause, of the simplistic morality of antagonist up until that point, etc,) in exploring the issues of the impact of the Mad King's War and the corrupted morality of Begnion. RD did a pretty good job of establishing that while Ike's journey made some improvements to the world, Ike definitely did do his fair share of damage with aligning with Begnion and letting them have control over Daein and letting Daein suffer the consequences. In context yeah it made sense for Ike to side with Begnion and work with them, but in doing so he allowed for so many acts of unjust harm to come into fruition. Furthermore, the story highlights the ignorance of humanity and our own self serving desire with the Begnion Senate's own actions and how they caused more and more conflict because of absolutely unnecessary pride and ego, which is really interesting because most FEs to that point didn't really have a faction the story of a previous game supported turning out to be so morally corrupt which is really cool. I think RD goes out its ways to be very critical of FE in a very interesting way, I have a lot of issues with the story as well as most people (especially with how Part 4 cranks it up,) but I think there is a lot of interesting ideas in RD that's cool and I think many of the underlying themes of RD is actually really dope. I also think POR was definitely written with all the deconstruction RD had in mind since it alludes to a lot of the stuff RD explores.

I definitely think so too. I'm so glad that there are other Micaiah fans out there as well. I really like her character, and especially her Part 1 design. I enjoy raising her up from Level 1 thanks to the beautiful animations and battle themes. Also, even though her speed growth sucks, most of the time by the time she reaches her max levels in Part 4 she always maxes everything out for me. The only thing I wish was there was some more interactions with her other companions while at base, kinda like how Ike checked up on everyone every once in a while in Path of Radiance.

I agree 100%. I don't even think the blood contract needed to exist, because of poor little Pelleas. I think based on what we know about him and Izuka, Pelleas could be blackmailed into joining the war. Pelleas is not branded, and he knows it. He tells Micaiah that his mark is from a pact he made for magic power, like people assumed Soren did in PoR. Therefore, Pelleas would know that he isn't Ashnard's son from the beginning. Why, then, does he pretend he is? The people of Daien needed someone to unify them to fight back against Begnion, and Izuka decided that "Ashnard's Son" would be perfect for it. Once a new figurehead, Micaiah, showed up, Pelleas was fine to take a backseat. This is where the blackmail rewrite would come in. I think at this point Lekain should find out that Pelleas isn't Ashnard's son; how he does doesn't ultimately matter. If this knowledge were to get out, there may be civil war in Daien deciding who should get the throne.

I definitely think 4 and RD have a lot of similarities. Both do gray morality pretty well (at least for FE standards), and both really tried to shake up the gameplay in big and risky ways. 4 with it's massive maps, changing some mechanics, making things somewhat more complex (skills, holy blood, etc.). RD with it's multiple parts, controlling different armies, return of third tier promotion, and more. On the flip side these games both face heat for their own design decisions and intricacies. 4 might be more beloved than RD but both have their dissenters, and while I personally am not a fan of 4 from a gameplay perspective, I respect both games for trying to expand the franchise - whether it be through narrative of mechanical evolution. That's also a thing I respect about FE in general, even probably the most safest transition, 6 to 7, still added things or at least polished things, and no two games are entirely alike. It's when they take risks though, like with these two games, is when I really think the franchise truly shines. Even if it also trips in the process here and there as well. To summarize, while maybe not the BEST, 4 and RD really do feel like a big step for the franchise - both of them, both in the ways I said, and in the ones you said. Even though PoR is my favorite in the series, just some of the things RD does really makes me think fondly on it.

I 100% agree with your interpretation of Micaiah, but I think it's a bit reductive to call it a deconstruction of Fire Emblem tropes, specifically because that implies that subverting/deconstructing tropes from the series is the point of the narrative. I'd argue that the game is, at its core, just a well written nuanced narrative. It incorporates common tropes of Fire Emblem games because it is a Fire Emblem game, but because it handles those tropes with nuance, it inherently seems like an intentional deconstruction.

The thing with that take is like… yeah, There are certainly things to like about fates and things to dislike about fates, and when most people say it is “bad” it’s either in reference to something specific or relative to games they like more. So, “fate’s isn’t actually bad” really isn’t a hot take, because very few people would say that it actually is universally bad.

i’m fairly unfamiliar with the entirety of the franchise but genuinely nothing gets me more excited about fire emblem than when i’m thinking about FE Fates: Conquest. may i ask why people don’t like Fates? i certainly thought it was way better than 3 Houses i couldn’t even finish that.

@@wukishark For me personally it’s everything. I think the story and characters are pretty awful. I’ll admit conquest has some good map design but I straight up hate a few as well. I also get annoyed with checking the enemy skills so often. I really just don’t have fun playing the game. Even in this video a few of the things people listed as positives in fates are things I don’t like about the game. The positives I’ll give it are I’ve always liked the pair up system and dual attacking in fates and awakening and fates definitely improved on it. As I mentioned there are some well designed fun and challenging maps as well. Even so, these maps are only in conquest and the gameplay of the other two isn’t really fun. So 2/3 are bad and 1/3 has good gameplay and nothing else is why I think a lot of people classify fates as a whole bad, but would probably follow up with, “but I like the maps in conquest.” Edit: Forgot to say I think fates is a big case of what do you like about fire emblem. A lot of the stuff I hate I’m sure is stuff someone else loves. It’s just personal preference I’m thinking. I’m kinda curious though, I enjoyed three houses. It’s not my favorite and it definitely has flaws, but what were your problems with it? Was it so bad you couldn’t finish even one route? I’ll admit I couldn’t be bothered to beat the church route, but I still mostly enjoyed the 3 main routes and the dlc maps.

Its the same logic as violence in video games causes real violence and is extremely stupid. And censoring something for so little a reason is not good at all. Also you seem to not understand at all how FE4 works. Theres no support conversations. Those didn't exist until 6. And also there was never any incest for the playable units outright stated. Its more of an implied maybe kinda thing with like holy blood and maybe like one line but that I don't remember for sure. The only direct case of incest we have is 100% treated as a bad thing and literally births the antichrist. There is no reason to change the plot point. Its not like people are gonna play it and then go fuck their family. Especially when its treated as a world ending bad thing lol. Now there is a bit in the kanga I think where 2 siblings may have done a little something or it was implied i think but ik not too sure cause I have yet to read it but I'm fairly certain there was something there but thats separate from the game.

Listening to the conversations about Fates/Awakening and 3H, I think one of the biggest challenges for FE going forward is going to be UI. Skill emblem is a cat that’s never going back in the bag (whether it’s traditional skills, combat arts, proficiencies, etc.) and what makes 3H feel like a slog to me on maddening is just how bad it is to navigate the menus to check skills. Fates/Awakening were very clean and easy to navigate but had two screens and a touch pad. Im sure this is commonly thought, but I never see it anywhere: Echoes UI sucks. Not displaying hit and crit anywhere on the unit pages really gives that authentic NES gameplay

Actually, you can check those stats ! By pressing "a" on an unocupied tile and selecting the "Units" menu you can access three pages of unit data. The first is "Vitals" with stuff like hp and exp, the second is "Stats" showing everything from attack to res and finally the "Battle" page, where it´s shown: the current hit rate, crit rate, P-Avo (Physical Avoid) and M-Avo (Magical Avoid). Granted, its a shame that the Echoes UI decided to sacrifice relevant information with a portrait, even if it is gorgeous. However, the unit menu is present in every FE after the NES ones and I think is very underutilized by the playerbase, and its a shame, because is really cool, not only to access information, but to compare how your units´ performance.

The dude saying that Heroes is gonna die next year is totally ignoring how - there's a huge backlog of characters that still haven't been added (where tf is Volug) - game loves creating OCs. There's like 29 already and that's starting to get close to a retail FE game - game loves making seasonal alts. You have easter, summer, halloween, xmas, new years, and even bridal and ninja festivals to bs at least 28 characters a year, even duplicates of characters already in the game - game loves alts in general. There's like three or four Eliwoods on a horse, nothing stopping them from making a 5th and people will pull anyway. Fallen (of his horse)Eliwood let's go - IS can like, y'know, still make new Fire Emblem games for the Switch and suddenly Heroes has excuse to run for a whole year more and not be halfways done with the new game's characters. FEH players are sick and tired of 3H characters and there's still a bunch missing (og Dorothea when. She got two alts already but I want her school uniform damn it) - IS doesn't give a shit about powercreep so they're more than happy to exploit an already exploitative monetization system for more money. Though it's funny to go to Twitter; you'll always find someone complaining about Hegemon Edelgard in the comments like IS cares I still hold the opinion that FEH is a pretty bad game, a pretty bad gacha, and most importantly a bad "Fire Emblem" game, but it's a decent enough mobile experience that's fun to like, log in, not play, save orbs, get new waifu, continue to not play, and just collect Fire Emblem characters and then you feel like playing after 6 months and suddenly you're full of resources to raise units, make builds, and play for a good long while on the bus or during lunch or when you're simply not up for a more substantial game.

I'm kinda in the position where i have a huge amount of characters (also a hegemon Edelgard, and yes she's stupidly op. I hate to use her). So i'd feel kinda bad for just dropping it. The artworks do range from pretty okay to downright stunning. But as agame itself, i agree. It's bad. The story-part is.. superficial and boring at best. I'm not asking for FGO levels of a wall of text but some more.. meat to the story would be indeed nice. The books all go kinda the same way: shit happens, you get some sexualised girl drop into your hands, you go investigate shit, you think youre on the right path, shit gets worse, you solve the shit. They should let go of the 12-chapter per book-thing, in my opinion. A world map to actually see the countries/realms would be pretty cool as well. But they invest such a minimal amount of worldbuiding into this game, it's just.. ergh. It's nice to (try to) collect your favorite FE-characters and maybe grab a few orbs from quests once in a while. But it's not a game i'd recommend to anybody else, ever.

Honestly what I probably find most frustrating with Eirika as a character, though it doesn’t necessarily make her bad, is how little she seems to learn throughout the game in that regard. I totally agree characters should be consistent and I don’t expect the fact she’s naturally more trusting to change all that much. But after getting tricked at multiple points in the story I do kind of expect her to be a little more distrustful when a similar thing happens in the future. Still I guess it’s not entirely impossible if someone is just naturally so trusting that overshadows their past experiences so I can’t say it makes her a bad character.

On why certain games are often better appreciated on subsequent playthroughs: I think this is especially true of games in series. It's very difficult to approach a game without getting into it with expectations about how it should be playing out. As such, rather than trying to appreciate the game for what it is and playing to its challenges, we spend time reacting to the fact that it's not what we expected it to be. It adds a mental disconnect that wouldn't happen if we hadn't experienced the game series before. I felt this way notably about Xenoblade Chronicles X. For a long time, I was very disappointed with it because I jumped in with expectations about a deep and engaging story, since that was where I was coming from in Xenoblade Chronicles. However, it's only after playing Breath of the Wild and replaying Legend of Mana that I considered approaching XCX with a different outlook. This time based around exploration and world building for its own sake, rather than to drive a main narrative. And, lo and behold, I found the game to be incredibly fun! Another reason why subsequent playthroughs usually feel better is because by the time you start your second playthrough, you've probably learned a lot about how the game is played and find better ways around what might have seemed like obstacles or impediments during the naive first playthrough. It's why I love sequence breaking in Metroidvanias. I find new and interesting ways to address the game's challenges and I find out that this is actually more fun.

Funny you mentioned Xenoblade X; I find Xenoblade 1 and X more similar to eachother than Xenoblade 1 with 2. In fact, I never finished 2. Bought expensive special edition, played 50 hours, didn't really like it, never finished it. Big brain 2 dollars per hour of gameplay purchase. To me, Xenoblade X falls a lot more in line with the expectations set in 1 than, well, 2. And in the same vein, 2 falls short of the expectations that X set for me. I don't know if I'll ever finish it. I tried giving it a second chance but it didn't really pan out. I'm really put off by the slow and deliberate gameplay, it feels I'm constantly being punished for actually trying to play instead of just sitting around waiting for cooldowns. Autoattacks are so slow, moving is slow (in a series that really likes its attacks that deal more damage depending on your positioning), smaller art palette makes cooldowns more apparent, and most damning that you also don't start with your Arts ready until you unlock exponentially expensive skills, which makes character growth feel unnecessarily slow (in 1 and X's earlygame, if a new Art did damage, regardless of how weak it is, is an immediate firepower increase at the start of combat because you simply don't have a full palette yet, meaning you can take out weaker opponents faster even if your individual hits haven't become that much stronger since)

@@nicocchi you're looking at things only from a combat perspective. In that respect, I can understand while you might think that X is closer to 1. In terms of game structure, however, 2 is light years closer to 1 than X will ever be. That being said, I can relate to the early game of 2 feeling sluggish. I felt it too, when I started playing, but as with any Xenoblade game, the game hides its learning curve fairly well. If you want to really up your DPS in 2, you need to learn how to leverage pouch items, especially those with arts recharge. There's a shop in Argentum, right at the start of the game, that sells Narcipear Jelly; it's really worth what it brings to the table. Furthermore, there are ways to auto-attack faster. The more common technique is to just have your character move right after landing the first auto-attack because the animation is faster than those of subsequent auto-attacks. Combine this with an arts recharge pouch item and you'll rarely be left on auto-attack standby for long. After that, you want to learn how to leverage specials and fusion combos, too. The game's battle mechanics are quite deep. But once you learn how to go all in, you'll be fighting at a faster pace than even in infinite overdrive setups in X.

Here is an unpopular opinion I have- I hope you won’t mind me sharing it here even though it’s not related to the opinions in the video, since I don’t have many other places to share this opinion and I don’t think it will be too bitterly divisive at least: Gilbert is one of the most interesting characters in FE16. He’s widely disliked because he’s a terrible fuckup of a person, but he’s fascinating because he’s remarkably like AM Dimitri. He convinces himself that because of his past failures, he has to do repentance or else dishonour those he had failed. And this leads to him deserting his family and ruining his relationship with them, while making himself miserable in the process. Because of the duties he convinces himself he has due to his failings, Gilbert makes things worse for literally everybody. Nobody- not even Gilbert- actually wants Gilbert to do the things he persuades himself he has to. This is the same dynamic with ‘Punished Dimitri’- although Gilbert doesn’t necessarily get over this as Dimitri ultimately does.

The issue is that the doesn´t acknowledges it. I know real health problems related to incest are a very delicate in a game, more so if the topic is handled in some form of gameplay. To me, the fact that there are incestous pairings in FE4 is more like a side effect of the inheritance system that something intended. They probably planned thinking on how cool it would be to build your own unit and later realized the consequences. There´s even Julia, who not only can´t gain support points but she loses them with Seliph. Inbreeding is only a problem when genetic flaws start stacking with themselves (and even then, first generation usually has a negligible impact between generally healthy people.) So, if two people with similarly superlative magical stuff in their blood were around, then inbreeding would actually be expected to concentrate it.

For my money, the worst conversation in FE4 regarding incest is the one between Sylvia and Claud. I don't care what Kaga said in an interview. I'm not so sure on the cav in the corner as reinforcements idea. Considering the size of the maps, it'll be a while before they reach your army and at least from my memory, didn't make much of a difference. If we're doing unpopular opinions in the comments, then I'll copy mine from the subreddit: Reclassing in 3H is probably not the main reason the units feel homogeneous. If I were to narrow it down to 2 things that do it more, it would be that you can wield almost any weapon in any class and that most unique skills/combat arts characters learn aren’t better than the universal skills/combat arts everyone else has access to. And to stay on the reclassing train, reclassing doesn't have to inherently take away from a character feeling unique. Reclassing like in Awakening and Fates does a good job of this. Last thing, less isn't always more.
@samkeiser9776
@samkeiser9776 2 жыл бұрын
I’d disagree with you on the universal weapon usage, I generally tend to give my units only one or two types of weapons they are good at, and it takes quite the bit of investment before a unit can actually use the weapons they’d actually like to use from other weapon types they aren’t trained in. I’d say it’s probably at least in part because specializing a unit in anything but normal class paths is actually pretty hard. Annette for example, has a boon in axes, flying, reason, and authority, (and maybe some others) but if you were to just train all of those, there’d be no class that would open up to her for her to use all of those attributes. Wyvern’s can’t use magic, and dark fliers don’t have any reason to use axes, and they don’t have any strengths in them either.

About FEH shutting down: 1. They're making a lot of money. Mobiles games shut down when they stop being profitable, FEH is a long ways off from reaching that point. 2. They keep innovating, adding new features, new types of characters, and new game modes. This is not the kind of thing you do in a game you're planning to shut down. 3. The FEH story has actually been giving out hints that it's gradually building up to something bigger. They'd probably want to finish that story if they could. With the pace at which they're going, I don't see them reaching that point before 2024 or 2025. EDIT: However, it's also obvious that Mekkah doesn't know much about FEH. Since the last CYL, which was in February, 58 new characters have been added (not counting alts) (8 of those 58 are OC's). Then again, not counting OC's, they still have 382 characters they could add (even more, considering that Ullr has been added, confirming that lore characters can also make it in, even though they didn't appear in the CYL due to lack of an in-game portrait). Point in case, there's enough characters left for another 6 years, without considering that in that time, one or two new games with an all-new cast will have been released, which tend to bring enough new characters to carry FEH for two or three years (they're still working on adding very relevant Three Houses characters - Ignatz, Manuela and Jeralt aren't even in FEH yet).

When it comes to birthright, I can safely say that every time I replay the game I end up liking it more than I did before, and even with my recent completion of it using no re classing and minimal child unit recruits, that statement still holds true. I think that comment has a good point, but in BR's case it can just be chill to play even without exploring all those mechanics if you know what to prepare for. However, despite my opinion constantly being raised for it, I think that redditor failed to mention it's biggest flaw that holds it back, that being the maps themselves. Some of them look inoffensive with a slew of enemies spread out on them but quickly overstay their welcome with a massive reinforcement spam while others are beyond brain dead (ex. Leo level, faceless fort dragonfall, xander). Birthright may be pretty fun at times, but it will never be listed as one of my favorites because it will be forever held back by those maps. Haven't played Rev for like 5 years and I only played it once, so I don't have any thoughts about it.

I have a feeling that this is a popular opinion that I don’t often see discussed (at least where I’ve looked) but FE should branch out to more interesting settings/situations for its games. The classic Fantasy setting with nobles, kingdoms, etc. where you play as a lord with a dead parent and go to fight an evil dragon is nice and all, but there are so many concepts that could still feasibly fit under “Fire Emblem”. Some basic concepts i thought of while writing this: - a far future version of an existing FE setting, where people still use swords and stuff because [insert scifi reasons]. Awakening did something like this, but it just was another fantasy setting without significant technological change - a game where the primary focus is assassinating some noble with a small group of criminals, and the entire game is focused on setting up the conditions for that and dealing with the reprecussions - games in setting based off of things other than medival europe. The fact that fates even slightly strayed from that is really cool, and I wish there was more of it. - going entirely off the rails and having the main conflict revolve around fighting off aliens or something crazy like that
@zachataxxii7126

TRUE. There's so many different scenarios that you take with a game designed like Fire Emblem that having almost every game be a variation of "young prince/princess kills dragon(-like) creature and their kingdom has a golden age" is such a waste of the types of concepts you could run with. Hell, part of why I love Ike is because he's NOT that, and Alm could've been the same thing if it wasn't for the Rudolf twist. As much as I hate Heroes, the one thing that I will give it is that the settings for Book 3 & beyond are completely original in the Fire Emblem series, and made me wish I could see an actual mainline game that runs wild with one of those concepts. Give me a dream-like fantasy world or mech warfare instead of the basic medieval stasis like every other game.

If it's weird or immoral, that's just how the game is. You wouldn't change art to fit modern values... And it's not the game's job to educate you on incest. Potentially unpopular opinion? Jagen’s are the most important unit for any fire emblem cast(for gameplay), and three houses really showed how rough it can be without having one. They make the game much more replay able, and serve as an optional get out of jail free card for the player. They enable strategy’s that otherwise wouldn’t exist merely because they take a lot of hits and do a lot of damage when most of your units suck. They’re a huge boon to both newcomers and veterans alike. And for some reason people are still afraid of them. If you don’t wanna use them, that’s totally up to the player but I cannot magically make a Jagen appear in three houses. It would make replaying through the tedious early game much more enjoyable since you could more easily steam roll into the unique parts of each story without even changing the story at all. Obviously Jeralt would’ve been a great story inclusion, but even if you just got any of the adult monastery units in like chapter 2 or 3 it would’ve made replaying other paths much more enjoyable and made maddening mode much more bearable and probably even fun. Instead we got an end turn simulator where your units die in 1-2 hits at most.

FE8 fanboy here >:( Trusting Lyon at the end of Chapter 18 is something that Eirika, a hopeful character, would totally do. Lyon is one of her closest friend, ever. However, I feel the need to remind people that in Ephraim's route, it is him who is a dum-dum and charges forward alone, only then to have the Stone of Renais destroyed by Lyon/Fomortiis. In this case, if someone can say Eirika is a dumb protag because she gives the stone to Lyon willingly, then they have to say her brother is dumb as well, because it's essentially the same thing. Now, for MY hot take: criticising a game for being "too easy" is a poopy argument. FE8 devs went out of their way to make the game easy. It's a conscious choice, unlike games that have zero quality control whatsoever and leave the game balance completely out of whack - some parts are too hard, and some are too easy, there is no consistency in difficulty. You can say that the FE8 devs took the easy way out, but I think it's smart because they didn't try to do something that they perhaps did not have time and/or resource to do. No, I think the Archanea, Valentia games, FE4, FE6 and FE16 are better, but FE8 is far from the worst game in the series.
@Kryptnyt
@Kryptnyt 2 жыл бұрын
I think an important note for the Eirika part that a lot of people don't pick up on, is that Lyon is in control, and he's acting; He slips into a demon king persona of his own construction to provoke Eirika into killing him, something he believes she would not do normally. When he convinces Eirika to give him the stone, it isn't the Demon King doing a Lyon impression, it's a Lyon doing a Lyon impression, so of course it's convincing.

As well the fact that it’s clear that most of the sexualized designs are given to women, and that’s sexist. In comparison to fates and awakening however 3houses largely avoids the issue by just… having the characters where actual soldier uniforms for their class in battle, and having them wear their normal clothes outside of it. you still have stupid designs like the archer and whatnot, but it’s not as bad as fate’s designs.

Over time I’m becoming more fond of being critical/looking for sharp opinions on of various things is very acceptable in the FE fandom. on the end of the day few people really take issue with disliking various games/concept or celebrating others. Mostly in contrast to pokemon, in which large numbers of fans are negative or positive, but also seem to do worse about legitimately considering other takes. I’m especially baffled how positive fans(including Serebii at times even) are at times punching down on negative takes or denying them legitimacy. There’s a slight elitist/casual rift in FE, but most seem decently well informed on others opinions and needs. Even the slighty bizarre ‘fe fans hate fe’ brand of jokes seems to indicate a relaxed stance towards analysis and nitpicking. Some opinions get more flak then others, but I don’t often get the impression opinions get aggressively smothered(maybe some of the more out there story takes at times, but that’s natural dicier then just gameplay). I even think Sothe is a perfectly reasonable unit to raise up in both PoR and RD, even if he is a trainee/prepromote and Volke has a a better growth spread and skill. And Gaius, Yuri, and Niles are godsends due to how well they fill their niches as clean-up hitters with their propensity for crits, strong ranged attacks and mobility.

And I think Colm probably gets more hate than he deserves, he's in the rare game where you can reliably dodge axes in Hard Mode, and just being a spotlight in FOW is valuable utility.

Their normally pretty bad (combat wise, of course) for the same reason most lords in FE are bad: Sword locked units almost never have reliable 1-2 range, and not having a horse means they are shot in the foot compared to a large portion of the rest of your army. While I strongly respect base speed and growth of them, their base attack is in the same level as bad as Lyn most of the time, which is eye watering sometimes. Looking at you, Matthew. And you Colm. ESPECIALLY you Chad.

Yeah, I like Fates more than 3 Houses at this point. I just can't stand doing the monestary sections anymore. My castle is way faster, and way less important. Fire Emblem typically just focus on the srpg elements and story, but the monestary is so big and important it feels like a whole 3rd piece of the pie and it's just a very watered down Persona. The problem is that I think the maps are too short and not that interesting (not to mention reused a lot). I think Persona 5 had a much better balance between the life simulation and dungeons. Leonie and Alois's paired ending is hilarious. I think the Begnion Senate were good cartoony villains. They were all hateable and over the top, but not deep in the slightest. Basically just a bunch of power hungry slime balls.

My take on people complaining about incest in medieval set fantasy games is "just look at the Habsburger line". I don't support it myself. I'm the first one to complain about ANOTHER FUCKING LITTLE SISTER ROUTE IN A VISUAL NOVEL... but it wouldn't be too weird for that time period. I don't like it, but it's not that out of place. NOW MODERN DAY GAMES HAVE NO EXCUSE AT ALL, so I will make a petition to get rid of all incest stories in games with modern setting.

Defensive Fates fans feel like they still have trauma from when the game was the newest in the series and everyone was dunking on it very hard, which is an era of the FE fandom that lasted for a relatively long time. I think that Fates has been around long enough where we're getting past talking about Fates as if it were an alien concept and actually judging it fairly alongside the other games, rather than to the side of then (ex. "This character is pretty good for a Fates character.")

unpopular opinion: cain is better than abel in shadow dragon. the big reason is the higher luck. many enemies pull substantial crit (mercenaries, manakeets, bishops, etc.) and they do so much damage that if they crit you youre pretty much dead. esp the manakeets and thoron bishops, even if youre capped it doesnt matter. cains speed base and lance rank early on is annoying, but you can work around that pretty easily, its just tedious. theres no ways to work around getting one shot by a crit outside of the one goddess icon you get and secret shop stat boosters. and 35% vs 40% strength growth is almost inconsequential. i just finished an ironman run so i believe this holds true at least in this context, if youre dying to a crit theres just no way youll be of any use tanking manakeets.

Eirika still is pretty dumb, when she gives Lyon the stone it’s is quite literally the chapter after you fight him for the first time and see that he is clearly possessed by the Demon King. You’d think she’d learn a thing or two about giving something important to the enemy after Novala but nope. She’s either just stupidly naive or doesn’t grow as a character. That being said Ephraim is also dumb for running off after the big bad on his own. Still, fe8 is the game I recommend to newcomers to the series

My unpopular opinion, the player shouldn't know about growth rates. I think it actively reduces player enjoyment since humans are so bad at probabilities. I mean, the games lie about hit rates in almost all of the entries for a reason.
@Timmio.
@Timmio. 2 жыл бұрын
Most games don't really show growth rates though and once they do it's usually only for when you need to pick between certain classes (which would alter the growths a bit). It's players looking up the stats that makes us know about the growths usually.

@@mr_lankyon2065 I feel like this is a matter of "Live and let live". I understand people that like to know what they get into especially bc this is a strategy RPG franchise. Romhacks tend to show it because there's no way of knowing without it (they're not as easily googlable as FE6 for example). It's always possible to not watch and if you prefer that feel free to do that, but I personally don't really have an issue with people checking what their units are like.
@mr_lankyon2065
@mr_lankyon2065 2 жыл бұрын
@@Timmio. normally I'd live and let live, but we're in an unpopular opinion comment section so I'm going to argue my point. Without getting into any statistics, growth rates distract the player with the specter of the 'average' unit instead of the unique experience they're playing through. Digging a level deeper I understand the desire to know more information but I think knowing growth rates sets the average player up for disappointment unless they have a strong understanding of statistics and a bit of luck. For example I don't think hardly anyone really intuitively understands what something like 40% growth means and its implications for a unit. On average it means they should grow 4 points in 10 levels. But thinking the unit is supposed to get 4 points in 10 levels is going to disappoint a significant portion of players who fall below that average. Then there's the common mistake of treating % as an additive where missing a level makes it more likely to happen next time (it doesn't). Third, they're meaningless in a vacuum without taking into account unit bases and thresholds that really effect unit performance chapter to chapter. Finally, with resetting, the motivated player can make the numbers they care about 100% (or close enough to it) that they don't matter in the long run.

I'll throw an upopular opinion in the mix. I think Three Houses has a not very good soundtrack. It feels very weak, thin, and ineffectual. It's a real letdown compared to the very full-sounding, textured, and beautifully orchestrated Echoes and Fates OSTs. As a random example, compare Fodlan Winds to Dusk Falls. No competition.

Nah, Three Houses got a lot of good themes. Tempest of Storms, Paths That Will Never Cross, Chasing Daybreak, both songs for the Battle of Eagle & Lion, and every final boss theme are all real standouts in the game, arguably even the series. Echoes definitely has my favorite soundtrack, but I'm not sure if I could say that Fates OST is simply better than 3H's.

Maybe you don't like oriental hoshidan music in fates, well there is always the celtic nohrian music and the wishy washy vallite stuff

To be fair, incest themes can be present in many Fire Emblem games, not just Fates (You are always blood related to Azura) and FE4. Since the first games and up until the newest ones Thanks to Fire Emblem Blazing Blade being a prequel to binding blade, Roy and Lilina could be cousins, and it appears to me that it was intentional, given that the writers knew of FE6's existence and the consequences of allowing Eliwood and Hector to marry the Pegasus Knight sisters. There had been rumors of Ephraim and Eirika being together, and although they ended up being false, the fact that Lyon was jealous of Ephraim while also being in love with Eirika might give the wrong impression. I think Ephraim also adresses this in heroes? I am not sure. In a less speculative instance, Byleth's relationships in Three Houses can be a bit... confusing. Though I haven't personally played it, only seen bits of the story and memes. Lucina can marry Owain while being his cousin, or a male Morgan while she is his aunt. You can do a lot of incest marriages in Awakening apparently. While writing this to fact check myself I found a thread of people saying (bragging, maybe?) of all the incestuous pairs you can make.

15:20 I do disagree with the redditor's opinion, but I've never said that the part 1 paths should be more similar - I'm perfectly fine with exactly the way that they are don't think they necessarily need to be made more different. That is to say just because you don't meet people who want a change in the opposite direction doesn't mean that there is nobody opposed to change in your direction. I recognize that making a game as large as 3h is difficult and it's likely that the reason they were able to put in all the things we liked about the game was because they DIDN'T put effort into making p1 different. Every other take was related to matters of personal taste (fe8 is your favorite or Fates is fun? Nice) or were related to things that literally don't exist (hypothetical Jugdral remakes) so they can't even be discussed reasonably.

Even if you justifiably dislike gacha games (I do too), Heroes should exist because it provides voice acting, correct pronunciations and art for a great deal of characters/places that lack it, not to mention the official localisations for the Japan-only games. I mean, Ullr had like one piece of blurry vague group art, no voice and no official English name until Heroes; if you're a fan of FE you have to appreciate stuff like that.
